Today Anthem got a brand new cinematic trailer, released during the Game Awards 2018 show. Game Producer Mike Gamble also confirmed the information that leaked earlier in the week that the release date of the demo has been changed. Well, sort of. More on that below.

The Anthem presentation on the stage was very short. The new 90 seconds trailer was all we got from the game itself. There was a fantastic orchestra performance, but that was literally everything. Casey Hudson said a few words before they rolled out the trailer itself, nothing news-worthy, really.

The trailer itself was good, in this author’s opinion :)

We got to see a few scenes of dialogue and the narrative revealed a few new bits and pieces. The story of the game and all of this new word’s lore is kept as a secret from the public still. We have a few characters’ names already – namely your crew members. Here’s a quick reminder from the initial reveal from Our World, Your Story: Anthem PAX West Panel Recap:

  • Haluk – a legendary Freelancer, all-around badass, and mentor to younger freelancers. He also drives the strider.
  • Faye Navine – as a cypher with the rare gift of mental communication, Faye has always been intrigued by the Anthem of Creation.
  • Owen Corley – the newest member, Owen is also a promising cypher whose ambition and enthusiasm have made him vital to your success as a team.

We got to see and hear both Haluk and Faye in the trailer. Owen was present for just a couple of seconds and didn’t get to say anything.

The cool-looking Storm javelin (the narrator of the trailer, also the guy in the featured image for this post) is the bad guy in the game. He’s known as The Monitor and is working with the Dominion. He’s got his own agenda and goals, though.

So far we know that the Dominion is the main antagonist faction and they are likely descendants of the Legion of Dawn. Unlike you and the rest of the Freelancers, the Dominion’s goals are to harness the power of the Anthem and take control over all of the relics left by the Gods. The Dominion comes from the far north of this world.

The good news for all those of you eager to check out the game as early as possible, is that the Demo has a new release date – January 25th! That’s right. The leaked information that was spread all over reddit and the media turned out to be true in the end, despite Mark Darrah’s statement on twitter.

Actually, Mike was right. The Demo launches on January 25th only for people, who have pre-ordered the game. For everybody else, the release date is still the same – February 1st.

Anthem gets its very first Closed Alpha test this weekend. Sign-ups are closed now and the people have been chosen and alerted that they will participate. If you signed up, but didn’t get in, you should have also received an email by now. Reminder, this is closed alpha. More of a stress test, not so much about gameplay. If you are invited to the event on December 8th and 9th, keep in mind that by signing for it and downloading the game, you are under NDA and are not allowed to reveal anything to the public, besides the fact that you got in.

Anthem’s official release date remains unchanged – February 22nd, 2019.
