ANTHEM Alliance System Explained. Guilds Coming Soon

BioWare revealed a few new details about the Alliance System that will be available in Anthem’s full version. The studio also talked about their plans for an in-game Guild system, which is not happening at launch, but (hopefully) very soon after it.

What is the Alliance System in Anthem?

The Alliance System is a way for you and your friends to get rewarded for playing Anthem together, says producer Ben Irving. When you complete missions and earn experience points and coin, the amount you earn will depend on your teammates and their activity among other factors.

The Alliance system consists of several tiers you can climb through and it resets each week. Most likely on Tuesday afternoon (like with any other MMO and live service games).

At the end of the week (Tuesday, actually) you earn Coin – the in-game currency, which you can use to purchase Javelin upgrades and vanity items. Based on the experience you have earned through the Alliance system, you will get a certain bonus to the amount of Coin you get.

A weekly cap is also introduced for the Alliance System. It is fairly high, says Ben Irving, but is still reachable. He also mentions that they do not expect most players to reach the weekly cap. It is in place, to control the balance of  the game and prevent exploits and cheating.

There are ten levels, each one harder to reach. The higher your Alliance rank is at the end of the reset period (Tuesday at mid-day EU time), the more Coin you will receive.

Anthem Alliance System Guide

You do not need to set up anything for the Alliance System to start working. If you have friends in your friends list, it will use them. If not, then random players you group up with will be factored in.

How Your Friends factor in Anthem’s Alliance System

The Alliance system will factor in the performance of players in your friends list (who are not playing with you currently) into the formula. This doesn’t mean you should stock up your friends list from Day 1, of course! The system only takes the top 5 performing players from your list.

The game uses your friends list from the network you play on – Origin (for PC), PSN and Xbox.

You can add a player to your Favorites, so you can reach out to them again. This list does not require any form of agreement from the other side. To add someone to your friends list, however, you have to first send them a request and they have to approve it.

Bonuses contribution is a two-ways street, though. In order for you to benefit greatly from your high tier friends, you also must be high tier within the Alliance System for the week as well.

Guilds in Anthem?

One of the hottest topics around the game – Guilds functionality, has finally gotten an implementation. While this feature was not in Anthem at launch, the devs did bring a limited guild functionality into the game.

Guides can be formed via a dedicated mobile app available in both iOS and Android stores. Download it and check out the simple navigation and orientation hints you get when you first launch it.

Joining guilds in Anthem right now is primarily used to give you better and more reliable ways to communicate with your friends. Although today most guilds tend to use Discord, like the guild I am in – Grabbit Kingdom.

Guilds secure you an important advantage when it comes to your Alliance weekly earnings. Guildmembers appear there no matter if you have teamed up with them in the past week or not. This way the pool of players participating towards your Coin reward gets much larger. Especially if you join an active and big guild.
