BioWare announced the post-launch Roadmap for their upcoming third-person co-op action shooter Anthem. Act I comes in March and brings quality of life changes, new stronghold, new missions and leaderboards, the guild functionality and the first Cataclysm event!
BioWare announced today what the studio plans to add to Anthem following its worldwide launch on February 22. The major updates will be called Acts. Detailed information was only revealed about Act I: Echoes of Reality.
Act I is going to be staged. The smaller updates that will be released are:- Update 1: Evolving World
- Update 2: Stronger Together
- Update 3: The Cataclysm
Each Act will deliver an update that will continue the narrative of the core storyline.
Act I will be released in March 2019. It will introduce the very desired by the community guild functionality along with leaderboards for top performing players in the world of Bastion.
As promised, the developers are hard at work to bring more end-game content to Anthem as soon as possible. Part of that promise is kept with the planned release of a new stronghold some time during Act I. The stronghold as well as any future content is said to be completely free. There wont be paid DLCs. Expansions are still not confirmed.
The Progression system will also see an update. We are currently pre-launch, so we don’t even know exactly what kind of progression system we will have when the game goes live on February 15 – Early Access, and its official worldwide launch on February 22.
The Developers spoke in a recent video about the end-game in Anthem. One of the biggest surprises that we got teased with at the end of the Public Demo, are the world-changing events called “Cataclysms” also known as “Shaper Storms”. There isn’t much info to share on them yet, but we know that these will offer both story and challenging gameplay.
Anthem is advertised as a looter’s heaven game. Keeping its reputation post-launch, Act I also promises to deliver new rewards. It is very likely that some of them (the shiniest probably :P) will be in the form of Store-only exclusives. Anthem doesn’t have a monthly subscription and its ongoing support will heavily depend on the in-game store.
Speaking of the store, we are still in the dark regarding the exact pricing model that BioWare is planning to use in the final game. The screenshots you might have seen on Reddit, Twitter or elsewhere, showed ridiculously outrageously high prices for armor sets and various other vanity items. The devs rushed to remind us all that these price tags are not final yet.
Considering the fact that Anthem is going to be a live service, it is a bit strange and risky that BioWare only plans to support the ongoing development of the game with the income from the game’s vanity store. Let me remind you that the story will not offer any items that boost your performance. Even the rumored crafting materials are not available for direct purchase. You will have to get out in Freeplay and get them for yourself or disassemble your unwanted loot.
