This Guide will help you better understand the process of gathering crafting materials, learning and earning schematics and blueprints as well as turning them into useful gear and weapons. The Crafting process explained from start to finish!
Crafting in Anthem is as much of as complicated process as it is easy. Weird, I know. In this game crafting your own weapons, mods and consumables is of great importance when you are leveling up and progressing through the difficulty tiers. Once you reach Grandmaster 2 and 3, however, crafting gets less important. This doesn’t mean it’s no longer useful, just less important. Still, having the ability to craft again and again the best weapons for yourself until you get the perfect build, is not something you should look past.Speaking of best weapons, at launch BioWare does not allow you to craft Legendary gear, only up to Masterwork. The latter one is still a great improvement for a fresh level 30 player, but later on as you go deeper and deeper into the grind, you will start looting Legendary items.
This is a Crafting Guide. So, let’s get to the point!
HOW TO GET BLUEPRINTS FOR CRAFTING
Before you can craft anything, you need a blueprint for the item. Currently the way to get blueprints is through completing achievements. You can find all achievements and what they unlock for you in the Challenges tab in the Codex.
Like with most things in the game, craftable items are also split into categories based on their rarity and bonus perks:
- Common Items (White)
- Uncommon Items (Green)
- Rare Items (Blue)
- Epic Items (Purple)
- Masterwork Items (Orange)
- Legendary Items (Yellow)
How to get Sigil and Components Blueprints
Each mission and contract you do for any of the Factions in Anthem (Sentinels, Arcanists, Freelancers, earns you reputation with the specific faction. Even harvesting and world events will contribute to that. Reaching Reputation levels 1, 2 and 3 grants you various sigil (consumables) and components blueprints, based on the faction. You need to complete your current challenge before next tier is unlocked.
- Arcanist Loyality 1 – Uncommon Sigil Blueprints
- Arcanist Loyality 2 – Rare Sigil Blueprints
- Arcanist Loyality 3 – Epic Sigil Blueprints
- Freelancer Loyalty 1 – Uncommon Universal Component Blueprints
- Freelancer Loyalty 2 – Rare Universal Component Blueprints
- Freelancer Loyalty 3 – Epic Universal Component Blueprints
- Sentinel Loyalty 1 – Uncommon Iconic Component Blueprints
- Sentinel Loyalty 2 – Rare Iconic Component Blueprints
- Sentinel Loyalty 3 – Epic Iconic Component Blueprints
Certain Consumables are unlocked as you level up. When you get to level 30, the remaining crafting blueprints you haven’t unlocked yet are gated behind various challenges.
How to get Weapons Blueprints
Using a certain weapon and defeating enemies with it, grants you access to more and better (higher tier) weapon blueprints. You need to complete your current challenge before next tier is unlocked.
How to get Gear (Javelin Ability) Blueprints
Complete a certain amount of missions and world events while using certain gear items (ability slots) will eventually complete the achievements for the specific gear piece and unlock a higher tier blueprint for it. You need to complete your current challenge before next tier is unlocked.
GATHERING CRAFTING MATERIALS
Each item blueprint has a rarity. Alongside the usual Compound, Allow and Javelin-specific parts, you will also need “Ember” from the same tier. Ember is a unique crafting material that you can get from harvesting nodes, dismantling unwanted items, looting chests and completing missions and achievements. You can also buy Ember from the Vanity Store for Coin (not for Shards).
The more achievements (challenges) and higher tiers of each achievement category you complete, the higher tiers of blueprints you will unlock.
Here are the available crafting materials in Anthem and how to get each type. Each one of the materials can be obtained through dismantling:
- Allow and Compount – usually found by Harvesting plants outside the walls of Fort Tarsis
- Weapon Parts – A unique crafting material used to craft weapons (only). Can be found in chests.
- Ember – Split into different tiers, these items can be purchased for Coin from the Store or found through harvesting.
- Javelin Parts – Javelin-specific items used to craft gear for the specific javelin. Can be earned by dismantling unwanted items.
HOW TO CRAFT ITEMS IN ANTHEM
Each time you craft an item, it will be made based on your current pilot level and will have a static Power and base stats for each tier. The reason you would want to craft more of each item is because the inscriptions (bonus perks) are always different. They are selected randomly from several pools for each specific item and the rarity tier.
Now that you have a blueprint of you new favorite item, you can check what are the requirements to craft it. Usually each item costs. You can do that at the Forge, where crafting is usually done. Pick a slot of your javelin and then go to the “craft” tab to see what are the available blueprints for that slot. Click on a specific craftable item to see the materials you need for it.
You can only craft items for the Loadout tab. Appearances and vanity items can only be earned through completing Challenges or by purchasing them from the Vanity Store.
If you are a new player and all of this sounds confusing, take things slow and one at a time. You cannot learn to craft the top tier gear before you are done with the Crit Path story of the game anyway (or it is extremely unlikely at least). Simply play Anthem, enjoy going on expeditions, completing missions, venture into Freeplay and complete world events, do Strongholds. With that you will accumulate enough crafting materials and complete plenty of challenges to get you started. When you start approaching thye end-game around level 30, then it is time to take a more serious look at your build and gear. This is where crafting gets most interesting and valuable.
