BioWare community manager Jesse Anderson decided to throw some light on why the patch notes for the big Update 1.0.3 from last Saturday were not complete. Some important things were missed or forgotten, it seems. Things like the universal Masterwork components, new values for the daily, weekly and monthly challenges and more.
Anthem’s update 1.0.3 was released a bit earlier than originally announced – on March 9 instead of March 12. This likely happened because the patch contained a few critical fixes for the PlayStation 4 crashes and the sound loss bug. This rush brought another problem for both the devs and the community. Shortly after the update went live, players started noticing new and changed things that were missing from the 1.0.3 Patch notes.
Jesse Anderson, one of the community managers at BioWare, posted a recap of the missing notes from the games’ most recent update 1.0.3 and why they were not included in a post on Reddit.
The most notable change was the introduction of Universal Masterwork Components. Those are the orange tier of components that have no javelin restrictions and can be used on all four exosuits. The biggest thing to note for these is that they are a sort of a trade-off. You gain potentially better inscriptions (based on your rolls and RNG), but lose in the base stats of the component item.
The five new Components added with 1.0.3 drop from Gransmaster 1 or higher diccitulties and have the following names and descriptioins:
-
Symbiotic Surge – Increases javelin armor by a large amount. Increases all damage for a short duration when picking up a repair pack.
-
Softened Blows – Increases javelin shields by a large amount. Increases damage resistance for a short duration when shields run out.
-
Thermal Cooling – Increases the javelin’s heat capacity to allow the javelin to fly more effectively. Reduces time you stay overheated significantly.
-
Rejuvenating Ammo – Increases reserve ammo for all equipped guns. Replenishes armor by a small amount when picking up an ammo pack.
-
Emergency Power – An inscribed component that augments javelin Ultimate gear and increases damage. Ultimate meter refills instantly when armor is critically damaged.
Me and my guildies (Anthem may not have a guild system yet, but we are ready and waiting for it to arrive later in April or May!) have been noticing since Saturday an increased chance for a component to drop that is specific to another javelin, not the one you are using. This is not a problem on its own. There should be a very small chance for that to happen, but since 1.0.3 this seems to be happening a lot more often than before. Jesse Anderson confirmed this one as well: “This sounds like a bug. There is a chance you can get a masterwork or legendary for a javelin other than the one you are using, but it’s really low”.
Another issue caught by the community was the Masterwork Embers from harvesting nodes. Jesse reports in his post that “I checked with the team and this was indeed bugged. The team is working on getting a fix in tomorrow (March 12th). This will be a hotfix and won’t require any patch to download.”
Some other changes included in Jesse’s post:
-
Colors now apply to launchers for the Ranger and Colossus javelins in the Forge.
-
Special Arms damage component changed from 30% to 15%. (BUG)
-
Epic Special Arms Ammo Universal component changed from 30% to 15%. (BUG)
-
Truth of Tarsis crit multiplier changing. (BUG)
-
Winter’s Wrath (Ice Storm) ability damage is incorrect. (BUG)
-
Chaotic Rime (Ice Shards) damage is incorrect. (BUG)
-
Amulet of Winter damage reduced from 40% to 20%. (BUG)
-
Winter’s Wrath recharge was increased to 5 from 4. (BUG)
These and a few other things will be fixed in an upcoming hotfix. This one is expected to be on the server side of the game and will not include anything for you to download.
Because Anthem’s official launch was at the end of the month – February 22, the first time-related challenges (daily, weekly and monthly quests) were intentionally different. Jesse states that “Current values for daily, weekly and monthly challenges are intended.” and adds “the values were different last month since Anthem launched on February 22nd and the team wanted players to be able to still be able to obtain the rewards that month.”
The March 9 update was the second big client-side patch for Anthem. In brought a ton of new and interesting changes to the game. Unfortunately it was almost completely overshadowed by the increased loot rates bug that BioWare allowed to slip into the game the previous evening and was fixed with the patch itself on Saturday.
The 1.0.3 Update increased Masterwork and Legendary items’ values from 45 and 47 to 61 and 75 respectively. This led to a re-balancing of the difficulties in the game. If you have been playing on Grandmaster 1, for example, you would notice how much easier it has become now. Grandmaster 2 is a lot easier as well, but still requires a high skills and high quality gear combo to succeed.
The HP of The Monitor (Heart of Rage‘s final boss) was nerfed significantly to make the encounter a lot easier now. The deadly Fury monsters that spawn near the relic before the final boss, are also a lot more forgiving. They also have less HP (not confirmed, but strongly feels that way).
To the new Loot-Uprisings (my own term, describing the second increased loot rates bug :P) from the community, Jesse rushed to calm down the crowd, stating that “I don’t have any answers on loot yet. The team is discussing and are looking at player feedback and game telemetry. I’ll share more on that as soon as I have an update.”.
