Indecisiveness and Frostbite Failed Anthem No. EA did!

ANTHEM Update 1.1.1 Changes Overview and Patch Notes

Vulkk by Vulkk|

BioWare is applying a small hotfix to Anthem today. Update 1.1.1 consists of only a few bullet points and is all about correcting some of the issues that the April Patch introduced. No maintenance today, but you will have to download the update and install it! The Elysian Caches Challenge ends today and you will no longer be able to collect the vanity items (until the next caches release, eventually)!

BioWare is ready with another patch to the looter shooter Anthem. The studio recently announced that some of the promised for April and May new features and content have been delayed, but there’s always room for quick hotfixes.

The most interesting fix is probably the one related to the wrongly displayed weapons and components stat values. These have now been corrected. The devs stated several times before this patch that the issue is only visual and the performance of the items has not been affected, nor will it be after today’s patch.

A potential exploitable situation where partially defeated encounters re-dispensing loot from previously defeated creatures, has been prevented from happening any more.

Here’s something I didn’t want to see fixed! The PC-only bug with right-clicking on items in the end of expedition screen will no longer salvage the items. You will now have to properly press and hold the button for the action to complete.

Question out of the blue: why are we not able to mass-salvage items? I can live without this quality of life improvement, but the sooner it gets implemented, the better!

If you are curious to see the original patch notes, here they are:

Anthem Update 1.1.1 Official Patch Notes
  • Fixed an error where Weapon and Components stat values were not displaying correctly.

  • Fixed a problem where suit power level (rarity) was not correctly being calculated based on equipped items.

  • Fixed an issue with Spanish audio in a conversation in the Sunken Cell stronghold.

  • Fixed an issue with French audio in a conversation in the Sunken Cell stronghold.

  • Fixed an issue causing a slight delay in Salvaging at End of Expedition

  • Partially defeated encounters will no longer re-dispense loot from previously defeated creatures.

  • [PC ONLY] – Right clicking an item to salvage it at the end of expedition screen now requires the mouse button to be held.

Today’s small patch is a client-side update. There will be no downtime, but you will have to close down the game, download the update and install it. This all happens automatically, of course. The patch is expected to be available to all players on all platforms after 15:00 GMT.

Jesse Anderson, community manager for Anthem, teased this patch in a message on Twitter a few days ago. He warned us not to get too excited, because it is nothing special. If you have been frustrated with some of the bugs and exploits, however, you may be happy to find them corrected after today’s update.

Anthem 1.0.4 Elysian Caches Update
The Elysian Caches are not what we all hoped for, but are better than nothing.

The Elysian caches are ending today with the refresh of the daily and weekly objectives and the arrival of the new Vanity Store featured items. These caches were met with a mixed reactions. My personal issues with this system were primarily related to the methods of dispersing the keys required for opening the caches. One per day limited the player’s choice and created weird tension between random players, paired by the matchmaking system some times. It even brought some anger here and there. I myself have been a witness of a couple such situations, where someone opens their chest and demands the rest do the same, then starting to rage when the others don’t do “as instructed”.

The caches were a disappointment from the moment BioWare’s Ben Irving announced that there will be no armor packs or even separate pieces from packs available in the first installment of the Elysian caches. On one live stream Ben mentioned that there will likely be a second tier of these caches with new and more items available. I hope BioWare has learned their lesson and start introducing armor packs or armor pieces as in-game loot and rewards. Currently nearly everything is available via the store. The fact that you can purchase them with Coins, doesn’t diminish the severe need for more and interesting in-game vanity rewards.

Anthem May Content Roadmap
The official Anthem website still lists the Cataclysm as a May 2019 feature! | image source: ea.com

If you follow VULKK.com, you may have seen my article from last week detailing the upcoming May content for Anthem along with Ben Irving’s public message to the community explaining without going into details why the roadmap is changing.

The Cataclysm event is still on for May, according to the game’s official website, but it is still unknown what exactly will we get from it. Nobody has come up to describe what the Cataclysm actually is in its full form. We’ve seen bits and pieces via in-game events and in the new Sunken Cell Stronghold, but we still don’t have the full picture.
