This is an overview of a great new tool, created from reverse-engineering Anthem’s mechanics, functionality and formulas. The “Anthem Javelin-Stats” is a great way for you to track your javelin builds and leave some of the stats calculations out of your head, freeing space for more important things… the gameplay! This tool may become your number one source for tracking your progress and builds outside of the game and even in-game at least until BioWare comes up with their own solution – the Detailed Stats Page! Let’s take a closer look!
Please, consider white-listing VULKK.com with your AdBlocker and support the site! Thanks!
We will not discuss the reasons why a Stats Page is so difficult to create, but instead will focus on what other solutions are there available to help you out.
Enter, “Anthem Javelin-Stats”!
This new web browser tool was released very recently. It features a clear and simple design and is created by a player called Kyngston. Its simple, but very nicely organized interface, has almost anything and everything you could possibly need to create, manage and share your javelin builds.
ADDING YOUR ITEMS TO THE TOOL
In the bottom left you will find six buttons. The first four serve as a means for you to add your javelin items – weapons, gear, components and support.
The process of adding your items is quite simple. Click the first row to select the name of the item. Everything from Item Rating 38 to 75 is included. You can also use the search box. The search functionality is available pretty much everywhere, for your convenience.
For each specific item, you can select up to four inscriptions. The tool allows you to pick everything, including if the bonus is Gear-specific or Javelin-available.
Once you fill in the first box of the inscription type, the second one gets filled automatically and more often than not this is very useful, because it is the term you are looking for and you wont need to go once again through the drop-down menu to select it yourself.
In the value field you can type simply a number if the boost is positive. If the perk lowers something, you would want to type it as “-25” for example. The minus is important for negative stats.
When adding components and their inscriptions, the tool will automatically add inscriptions if they are integrated into the component’s perks. The Ranger’s Victor’s Resolve is a good example as it adds 50% Blast Damage and takes away 20% Kinetic Damage. You do not need to insert those manually. Just fill in the two inscriptions and the rest comes auto-completed.
Here is a good place to note that there are a few minor glitches and errors in the naming of some things. A few inscriptions are incorrectly labeled or missing. The author has provided an easy way for you to contact them with a suggestion or a bug report and it will likely get fixed soon.
MANAGING YOUR INVENTORY
At the very bottom is the Inventory button. Here is where you will be able to edit or remove items.
The inventory is split into categories – Weapons, Gear, Components and Support – exactly like in the game. In each item’s own box there are an Edit and Remove buttons, located at the top right corner.
Here you can add more inscriptions to an item if you have forgotten to do that when you created it or remove the whole item altogether.
The Inventory could use a search function too. It is probably the only place where it is not available still. It could be especially useful for the Components tab, where you have at least six for each javelin and they pile up quickly.
ADDING YOUR JAVELIN LOADOUTS
We jumped right to the bottom of the page. Now let’s go back up a little! On the body of the page you have up to three slots for loadouts for each javelin class. You can give them custom names and any changes you make, remain saved there on the same browser and on the same machine.
An empty javelin loadout slot looks like this:
To add an item to an empty slot, click on that slot. A pop-up window will appear with a drop-down list. Pick something from the items you have previously added for yourself.
The left side gets populated with item names and perks, while the right side gets automatically updated each time you add or replace an item on the left. Calculations are done in real time, showing you how the item you are adding is affecting your javelin’s performance and stats.
At the time of this publication, you are allowed to add the same component multiple times. Just be careful what you click on, so you don’t mess up your stats in the end and get wrong results.
This is what a fully complete javelin build looks like:
To get a complete picture of your build, you can even add Sigils. All currently existing variations are available. You just need to pick the type and rarity, the tool uses its database to pull the perks of the sigil, no need to type or add them manually.
If you want to share your own build with your friends and the Anthem community, there is a “Build Link” button in the lower left. Clicking the button will automatically copy the link and you can directly go to Discord, Reddit or a forum to post it.
This tool is quite an improvement over the currently available one in-game, don’t you think? :)
THE MATH BEHIND THIS TOOL
At the very top you will find a bar with a few buttons. From left to right – Math, Acknowledgements and Contact.
It doesn’t hide away any formulas and calculations it is using. This gives you a chance to learn how things are calculated for certain values to reach the numbers you see after you input your gear and items. The author also lists who has helped them and how.
BUGS AND NOTES
This is a brand new tool. I don’t know the author personally and when I approached them on Discord, they did not respond immediately, but I did that in the middle of the night, so I didn’t expect much. We had a brief conversation and I got a very positive impression. You can reach out to the Kyngston on Reddid (/u/kyngston) or Discord (@Kyngston#4859).
It’s quite simple to use and very functional already, so I didn’t really need to talk to the author or ask any questions. Just wanted to congratulate them on a job well done.
You can find the Anthem Javelin-Stats tool at javelin-stats.com.
This tool is created by fans for fans. It is all based on reverse-engineered mechanics and formulas. As you and I know, things in live-service games, such as Anthem, change often. It is possible that the math may be different next week or month. I hope the author will keep this tool up to date and not just that but continue expanding on its functionality!
The original Reddid announcement states that “All planned functionality is up and running”. And it is. The few bugs I encountered are most likely going to be fixed soon and they were not ground-breaking.
If you are wondering why does it only store the builds you create locally in your browser, the author has already answered for you: “Builds and items are saved to the localstorage of you current browser/device. So if you input it on your phone, you won’t see them on your laptop.“. He also adds that “The only way to have the data persist across different sessions, is to use a backend database to store everyone’s builds and items. While I could do that, that would require everyone to login to my web app, so they would have access to only their saved builds/items. To do that I would probably leverage some sort of OAuth framework like letting people use their facebook login.” This creates another potential layer of trouble, because “asking people to create accounts and login, creates a new hurdle for people who just to play around with a build. I didn’t want people to get turned away, because they didn’t want to create an account.” Not to mention the legal issues from having a database with user accounts.
The author is currently working on allowing you to have your builds across different devices via a login using OAuth. In our brief conversation I also learned that this is a “what if” tool, meaning you are allowed to place whatever stats with whatever values you want, it will still calculate the end result of your “crazy build”. It’s also great for creating the perfect build for your javelin, if you opt to follow the rules of the inscriptions’ slots and create the “god rolls” to see what the maximum results could be if you ever get so lucky as to loot them in the game.
Adding to the other bugs I noticed and mentioned previously the fact that right now the mobile version of the tool has a small glitch too – the overlay for adding or editing items stretches a outside the visible area, but it still works and is a minor visual inconvenience.
The Anthem Javelin-Stats tool was officially released on May 23, 2019. I like it very and have done my part to introduce it to you. Now all I can do is wish it and its author a good post-launch experience (not like Anthem’s :P). If you find my overview useful, be sure to spread the word by sharing the article with more Freelancers and help them find it too.
