On July 17 BioWare pushed yet another update to the ANTHEM PTS’s Cataclysm event. This one adjusts the prices for trading large and small crystals – the new currency, allowing you to get the items from the seasonal store a lot faster!
The latest patch to the ANTHEM PTS and the Cataclysm deals with player-provided feedback regarding the price model of the Seasonal Store. This new vendor in Fort Tarsis offers War Chests and a variety of vanity items (including armor packs!) for the new in-game currency – Crystals.
Crystals can be earned everywhere and from everything you do. They are the primary reward for completing the Cataclysm and the various challenges related to it, inclucing new daily ones.
The main source for Crystals may be the arenas and objectives inside the Cataclysm, but they drop from literally everywhere – chests in missions, Freeplay and Strongholds as well as from many achievements/challenges.
The goods at the Seasonal Store can be traded for Large and Small Crystals. War Chests are divided in three categories (for now) – Melee Weapons, Ranged Weapons and Gear. Everything that vendor sells can be purchased with Large and Small Crystals.
With the update from yesterday the studio claims to have listened to the players’ feedback and decided to cut the prices in half! Community Manager for Anthem Jesse Anderson posted on the EA forums a short list of patch notes for this update alongside a brief announcement and an explanation for this change:
Hey Freelancers,
We just put out an update for the PTS. The primary reason for this update was to get in some adjustments we made to the crystal economy. Previously, it would take 1000 small crystals to convert them to one large crystal. Based on player feedback we have cut this amount in half to 500. You’ll still earn crystals at the same rate as you did before, but with this change you should be able to acquire items from the seasonal store faster.
The bullet-points for the patch notes from the July 17 Anthem PTS Update are:
- Economy modification to crystals: large crystal purchase changed to 500 crystals from 1000.
- Large crystal conversion to small crystals changed from 1000 to 500.
- Icon and UI updates for Seasonal Store and some cataclysm HUD elements.
- Arenas and Inversions have been changed to reflect how they will be during the first week of the Cataclysm.
Many of the improvements in the Cataclysm Update are from players’ feedback. The removal of the “Luck” stat is one of them! Don’t forget that you can also help BioWare by providing your own feedback. So far they proved to be truly and really listening.

The Cataclysm is nearing a “ready to ship” stage. Players have noticed the strangely-shaped storm already forming up in the sky above Bastion in Freeplay yesterday.
The Cataclysm update is the biggest and most ambitious one for Anthem yet. It still has no release date, but is expected with a hint of optimism at the end of the month (July).
It will open up with two weeks of pre-event. During this time you will get three new story missions, which can be played solo in a private instance (highly recommended if you want to enjoy the narrative at your own pace) or with a group of friends and/or random players (for better rewards and fun time).
The next six weeks will be the real Cataclysm event, which will have its arenas opened gradually. Currently, as Jesse Anderson stated, the PTS offers you what you are about to see in the first week of the Cataclysm in terms of arenas a and Inversions. Reminder: Inversions are special perks and boosters that will alter your gameplay.
BioWare assured us that the Cataclysm and all of its hype will not be all just for an eight weeks worth of an in-game event. There will be a continuation after that, but the studio is silent at this point about any reveals or even hints to what is coming next.
We are noticeably getting closer and closer to the official release of the next update. Are you interested in checking out the Cataclysm and Anthem’s next story chapter? Are you excited? Tell me why in the comments below and share your thoughts with the rest of the VULKK.com community.
