BioWare released the Cataclysm update in the beginning of the month and with it came a few new features that support or directly relate to the new game mode and event. The Seasonal store is one of them. It is an in-game market where you can purchase all sorts of customizations for only in-game currency. The goods include also the new melee items, the new elemental weapons and a ton of armor, graphics, decals and animations!
Alternatively, you can access this store by going into the main menu (ESC on PC) and clicking on Featured. Then hold “ESC” (bottom right button on the screen) to go to the full Store, where you will also see “Seasoned” tab on the very top row.
When you start the story missions related to the Cataclysm, the second one will actually send you directly to the mysterious vendor, who has opened his Arcanist shop recently and is now offering all sorts of goodies in exchange of the new in-game currency – The Crystals.
The Seasonal store rotates its offering on weekly basis. Today you may find an armor pack for the Colossus and a War Chest with Melee weapons, next week it might be the new Weapons, a Ranger armor pack and so on.
A few more words on how this whole system works. The Seasonal store trades only for Crystals. They can be earned primarily from the Cataclysm, but not exclusively. Small portions are awarded when you loot chests, destroy Crystals and/or complete events in Freeplay. Most of the new Challenges and some of the old ones now reward you with Crystals too.
The Crystals are split into Major and Minor. They can be traded without loss back and forth in the Seasonal Store.
On each rotation the Seasonal Store will have at least one War Chest, one Armor Pack and perhaps one or two Graphics. The rest of the items consist of Decals and Animations. The most expensive ones are, of course, the Armor Packs and the Graphics.
The pricing models may vary from item to item. Below I have a list and image gallery of the Seasonal Store’s offerings from the first week of the Cataclysm event.
But the big question is, could that vendor really be OWEN? Does he sound like him to you?
WAR CHEST: MELEE
Contains a single Masterwork Melee Weapon with a gear score of 66 for a level 30 player, with a chance of instead being a Legendary Melee Weapon with a gear score of 80. For lower level players, the item will have a +5 gear score bonus.
The contents of the War Chests are random when it comes to Javelin-specific items. In this case, the melee weapon could be for any of the four javelin classes. Opening them does not relate to which javelin you last played or which suit sits in your Forge at the moment.
A way to earn War Chests specific to your Javelin suit, is to complete daily challenges inside the Cataclysm event. Each daily rewards you one War Chest with an item for the specific Javelin you play with. The item will show up in the rewards screen after the run.
Price: 1 Major Crystal and 100 Minor Crystals
MAJOR AND MINOR CRYSTALS
As I said above, these can be traded back and forth indefinitely without a loss.
- 1 Major Crystal = 500 Minor Crystals
- 500 Minor Crystals = 1 Major Crystal
The first three rows of the Seasonal Store always look the same – one War Chest and then the Major and Minor Crystals for swapping. Most of the items will cost you a combination of Major and Minor crystals, so you will often be converting them.
COSMETIC REWARDS IN THE SEASONAL STORE
The contents of the Seasonal store will vary from week to week. There will likely always be at least one Armor Pack – one of the Crystal-themed sets, for a different Javelin each week. The rest of the items will be graphics, decals and some animations.
Below I will show you the contents of the Seasonal Store’s first week, just to give you a glimpse of what to expect in the future. The Shatter Armor Pack for the Colossus is priced at 8 Major Crystals. The rest of the items vary in price from 8 Major for the Wrap, around 4 Major for the Graphics and 1 Major or lower for the rest. The Decals are a few hundred Minor Crystals. You can check exact pricing in the attached featured video above.
Reminder! The Graphics and Decals look slightly differently on each Javelin. The Storm is the only one who gets decent painting on the cape, that’s why I am showing you the Storm’s back side too below.
