Spiderman has been saved to come back in a final movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The deal was saved after execs came together and a plea from Spiderman himself. And by Spiderman, I mean the actor that plays him; Tom Holland.
“On Aug. 20, the long-simmering spat between Sony and Disney-Marvel over Spider-Man reached a breaking point: Any partnership between the two for a third installment of the Tom Holland-fronted franchise was “100 percent dead,” according to a source familiar with the negotiations.
But in true Peter Parker-underdog fashion, an unlikely hero emerged to reconcile the two warring factions less than six weeks later: Holland himself. Sources say the star, 23, made multiple appeals to Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger and Sony film chairman Tom Rothman to reach a resolution, announced Sept. 27, for Marvel to produce a third Spider-Man movie for Sony, and for the character to appear in at least one additional Disney-Marvel film.
Holland made a surprise appearance at Disney’s D23 Expo days after the Sony-Disney divorce to promote the animated movie Onward. He earned big cheers by thanking fans for support and quoting Tony Stark: “I love you 3,000.” Online, fans adopted the hashtag #SaveSpiderMan to lobby Sony to make a deal with Disney.Holland began flexing his diplomacy after the D23 wrapped Aug. 25. He leaned on Rothman to re-engage with Disney (the actor was able to leverage his clout because he also is set to star in Sony’s Uncharted) and also surprisingly reached out to Iger, beseeching one of Hollywood’s most powerful executives to return to the table.
Eventually, a thaw began between Sony and Disney after Holland showed them the outpouring of fan support. In the end, the new deal had something for everyone. Disney won a considerable stake in a new movie, up from a nominal producing fee that sources say amounted to less than 5 percent of the gross for each of the first two Spider-Man films.”
Venom and Spiderman
The biggest thing I have been looking forward to is seeing Venom and Spiderman in the same movie fighting each other. Whether it is using Venom‘s alien origin or using him as Eddie Brock’s dad and Peter’s dad making a cure for cancer in what will turn into Venom in the Ultimate universe. Personally, I have never been a fan of the alien origins. It is much too complicated.
Spiderman’s black suit came from Battleworld back in the 1980s in the limited series Secret Wars. Spiderman took it with him but over time he found out that the suit was alive and wanted to permanently attach itself to him.
After being rejected by Spiderman he found a new host in Eddie Brock, who’s career was ruined by Spiderman and their hatred started the quest for the destruction of Spiderman.
Back in the 1980’s the writers of Spiderman found that there was something missing, an anti spiderman who could be the character mirror reflection of Spiderman. And thus Venom was born. Over the years, Venom has tried to kill Spiderman numerous times.
In my opinion, Venom is the best and the weakest at the same time. Without Spiderman, Venom has no real right to exist. It is a very one dimensional character since his sole purpose is the kill Spiderman. That’s all he really wants.
But watching Spiderman fight on the big screen, yes please! I would love to see that. And who wouldn’t?
Let me know what you think of Spiderman in the final installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and what you think of a Spiderman / Venom movie. You can reply in the comments.
