The Inhumans has to have been the biggest flop of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It has a weird history of getting its’ own movie, then being canceled and then rebooted but as a TV series.
The TV series, I had high expectations. I have to be honest here. I have been reading comics since I was young and I have seen them come by in The Fantastic Four, Spiderman and The Avengers. And I was curious because it featured Black Bolt and other members of the Royal Family: Medusa, Maximus, Karnak, Gorgon, Crystal, Triton, and Auran. Oh and don’t forget the main attraction: Lockjaw!
Bad Inhumans cosplay?
But the trailer kind of took all that away. Why? Well look at it! It’s hideous. The costumes look like a bad case of cosplay and the main powers weren’t translated to the TV screen very well. At least not in my opinion. Ok, well Lockjaw was amazing and that was translated well to the screen.
The backlash among fans online was so big that I never even gave the show a proper shot. I may just do that soon and maybe so should you. I already got Disneyplus and the show is already online there. Back then, all I wanted was to sign a petition to get my time wasted back. But maybe that was just because of that heavy backlash from other fans that was got into my head.
The thing is when you take divide the team because of a coup and then cut off the hair of Medusa , which is her Inhuman power (Living hair), and not have them fight as a team, their strongest point, then what kind of show do you have? A show with a very thin story! Characters weren’t fleshed out properly and their best was powerless.
The show was canceled after a few episodes. The backlash and the thin storylines were the cause of that.
Anson Mount talks reboot
But here is the best part. Anson Mount, who played Black Bolt on the show, was recently on a comic con panel in Dallas and addressed the rumors of a potential Inhumans reboot. And this is what he had to say:
“People might not know this, but in the sort of Hollywood trades, there’s rumored to be a negotiation going on with Disney+ to reattempt this. And apparently… it’s well-known that Vin Diesel has always wanted to play Black Bolt, so there’s some kind of negotiations going on.
I really want there to be another shot at the Inhumans, and I want it to be successful because I’d love to watch it. And I think it is the most interesting little corner of the Marvel universe, and I think it just has to be done — it has to have the right home, the right tone, and the right vision overall.
If you’d said ‘Pick your superhero that you want to play,’ that would have been my number two choice. Number one would have been Gambit, and number two would have been Black Bolt.” – Anson Mount
There you go, heroes! Hopefully they will make the show much better than the original one. And turn it into a big hit. If anyone can do it, it is Marvel! They took a few big risks, like Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy. And look how that turned out!
So who’s with me and will want to give this version of the Inhumans a shot? Let us know in the comments.
