The New Mutants released a trailer and much to my surprise, it is actually quite creepy. The storyline seems to be inspired on the Demon Bear storyline in the comics that ran way back in the 1980s.
The New Mutants first encounter with the Demon Bear
The original storyline ran through New Mutants #3 / #17 – #20. The Demon Bear was created by Chris Claremont, the legendary writer who also wrote X-men at the time and wrote classics such as The Dark Phoenix Saga and Days of Future Past among others. The concept of the Demon Bear was first teased by Claremont in The New Mutants vol #1 – #3.
The Demon Bear history with Danielle Moonstar
The Demon Bear is, in my opinion, one of the creepiest foes the New Mutants have ever fought. An unknown villain demonically mutated the parents of Danielle Moonstar, a mutant whose ability allowed her to create lifelike 3D images of a person’s fear and thus possessing minor telepathic abilities. Moonster’s parents were killed by the Demon Bear, according to the entity itself while he haunts Danielle’s dreams and claimed that he would eventually kill her as well.
Moonstar starts preparing her fight with the Demon Bear by running various scenarios containing bears in the X-Men Danger Room. When she confronts the Demon Bear attacks her and mauls her and crushes her spine.
The New Mutants rush Danielle to the hospital but unbeknownst to them, the Demon Bear infiltrated the hospital and some of its’ personnel, Sharon Friedlander and Tom Corsi. While they were reverted back to normal humans, they did keep their Native American appearance. I suppose that’s much cheaper than visiting a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon.
Anyhow, the New Mutants find out what’s going on at the hospital and fight The Demon Bear and defeated him by using Magik’s Soulsword. Moonstar’s parents are released from the Demon Bear’s hold and life is back to normal.

20th Century Fox in association with Marvel Entertainment presents “The New Mutants,” an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.
Things I want to see in the movie
The things I want to see in the movie is Cannonball’s powers. Cannonball can launch himself as a rocket in the air and fly at high speeds while being completely invulnerable during flight. And please make Sunspot much cooler than he was in the Fox X-men movies. Sunspot is like a living solar cell who converts solar power into pure energy making him incredibly strong but not invulnerable.
