Cyberpunk 2077 Release Date changed to November 19

The polish studio CD Projekt Red, who have been working on their next big title Cyberpunk 2077 for over eight years now, just announced another two months delay for the release date!

CD PRojekt Red are an independent studio and this gives them the complete freedom to decide when to release their games.

Cyberpunk 2077 was originally set to release in June. The date was pushed back with a few months to September 17.

With a rather long and direct message, the two founders of the company announced that Cyberpunk 2077 will release on November 19 2020.

The studio is aiming for perfection with this title and they promise that the amount of content, events and places to explore will be incredibly detailed. Each mission will offer a number of different approaches. Fetch quests will not be present.

Night City, the virtual city in which the game’s story takes place, is fully done now. In fact the whole game is complete. All missions, storylines, voiceover and effects are finished and in the game. What’s left is little tweaks and bug fixes. The devs want to make sure we get as clear and as perfect product as possible. Cyberpunk 2077 “will stay with you for years to come”. This is a big promise.

There is a big event coming for Cyberpunk 2077 later this month. On June 25th we will get a live event entitled “Night City Wire”.

In today’s letter CDPR’s co-founder Marcin Iwinski and head of studio Adam Badowski announced that the game is in the hands of selected journalists for testing and initial feedback.

Right after the Night City Wire event these media outlets will be allowed to share their previews of the game with the world.

Below is the full message from CD Projekt Red.

We have decided to move the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 from September 17 to November 19.

Those of you who are familiar with the way we make games know that we won’t ship something which is not ready. “Ready when it’s done” is not just a phrase we say because it sounds right, it’s something we live by even when we knjow we’ll take the heat for it. At the same time, we are fully aware that making such a decision costs us your trust and trading trust for additional time is one of the hardest decisions a game developer can make. And despite we think it’s the right decision for the game, we’d still like to apologize for making you wait longer. Our intention is to make Cyberpunk 2077 something that will stay with you for years to come. In the end, we hope you understand why we did what we did.

At the time we are writing these words, Cyberpunk 2077 is finished both content and gameplay-wise. The quests, the cutscenes, the skills and items, all the adventures Night City has to offer – it’s all there. But with such an abundance of content and complex systems interweaving with each other, we need to properly go through everything, balance game mechanic and fix a lot of bugs. A huge world means a huge number of things to iron out and we will spend the additional time doing exactly that.

This week, journalists from all over the world are starting to independently play the game. We are eager (and quite stressed) to hear their opinions, as well as see your reactions when they publish their previews right after we air Night City Wire on 25th of June. We hope this will satisfy some of your hunger for the game as we work to polish it for the November launch.

Thank you

Marcin Iwinski, co-founder and Adam Badowski, head of studio

Cyberunk 2077 Release date change announcement letter

The game is getting yet another delay. That was to be expected. About a month earlier CD Projekt Red said that the world crisis situation will not impact the launch date of their game.

Today’s letter does not reference anything about “working from home”. This means that the studio is actually delaying the release because they are working full-speed on the game, but still need more time.

In either case I am fine with that. November is actually a better launch date for me personally than September. It’s closer to the Holiday season, which means I will have more free time out of work to enjoy (and write about) the game!

Cyberpunk 2077’s November launch will collide with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s launch and that would be unpleasant for fans of both games, like myself. I guess I will find the way!

What about you? How do you feel about this announcement? Does it bother you? Does your mind play games with you comparing the delayed launch of The Witcher 3 and the fact that the game still got bugs at launch? Or is it just me?
