Keanu Reeves is the start of the Cyberpunk 2077 characters cast. Yesterday he also appeared for the first time in a flashy new commercial to promote CD Projekt RED’s upcoming video game!
CD PROJEKT RED has released a brand new Cyberpunk 2077 commercial featuring Keanu Reeves, who also portrays a major character in the game.
The promotional video was broadcast during game 1 of this year’s NBA Finals between Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat. In the commercial, Keanu Reeves invites players to join his character, Johnny Silverhand, in Night City when the game releases in November.
Here is a transcript of what Keanu says during the commercial:
“In 2077 what makes someone a criminal? Getting caught! In Night City you can become anyone, anything, if your body can pay the price. So, seize the day. Then set it on fire.”
The commercial is about half a minute long and includes flashy scenes of V and several other known and unknown characters. Keanu advertises the game as himself, not as the digital construct of Johnny Silverhand, who he portrays in the game.
Johnny is a fictional character, part of the Cyberpunk universe. In 2077 Johnny is long-gone, killed in 2020 after a failed battle with Adam Smasher, a full cyborg man who works for the Arasaka megacorporation.
The final words from Keanu are a direct reference to Johnny’s statement at the end of the E3 2019 trailer: “Wake the fuck up, Samurai! We have a city to burn!“.
Keanu’s live appearance on the E3 stage immediately after the trailer completely blew away the audience (and me, of course). The “breathtaking” moment will forever remain as my favorite thing from this E3 show and probably of all E3 shows I have seen so far.
At the moment CD Projekt RED employees are working in an “overdrive” mode, also known as “crunch”. A six days work week schedule was ordered, as reported by Kotaku. This will continue until the game is released.
CDPR previously announced that they are doing their best to avoid this situation, but the events that happened all around the world and with everyone working from home, the studio lead changed their minds.
This overdrive period will be paid according to Polish laws.
Another delay of Cyberpunk 2077 is out of the question and the development is now on the final stretch. Everybody in CDPR is working as hard as they can to polish the game and remove as many bugs as they possibly can.
Cyberpunk 2077 will release November 19th, 2020, for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, with the version for Google Stadia set to launch the same year.
The game will also be playable on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles when available. At a later date, a free upgrade to Cyberpunk 2077, taking full advantage of next-gen hardware, will become available for owners of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions respectively.
Couple of weeks ago The Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City Wire Episode 3 aired, revealing interesting details about the city’s districts and the gangs that roam them. If you missed it, check out my review!
What’s next? Cyberpunk 2077 went Gold on October 5th – a whole month and a half before the release date. The dev team is working hard in overtime to deliver what will likely be a huge Day 1 patch to bring our experience as close to the maximum as possible.
