Table of contents
There are a lot of mini games to be found in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Here is the list in short with a detailed overview and tips for each one below:
- Drinking games
- Fishing
- Animal Hunting
- Flyting
- Orlog – a game of dice
How to win the Drinking game
What good is a Viking when you can’t even hold your own in a drinking contest? That’s just no good! Which is why you can show off your drinking skill of drinking everyone under the table in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s mini games of a drinking binge!
You can recognize the drinking games by the icons of the crossed horns. You will be introduced to the drinking game in Fornburg in Norway.
As you travel the land later in game you will find other spots where you can hold your drinking binge mini game. Before you start the match you can lay in a little wager and the winner takes all. There are three bets to choose from: 100 silver, 150 silver and 200 silver.
If you have a sense of rythm then you are in luck. The main objective (if you use a mouse and keyboard you hit spacebar) is to hit spacebar or the X button on the Playstation 4 or Playstation 5. Or the A button on the XboX One or the XboX Series X at the right time.
The speed of the game will slowly but surely increase and if you make a mistake you will be thrown back to the same speed as you were at the start of the game.
Having to deal with getting drunker and drunker while still pressing your spacebar and trying to maintain your balance makes it one of the funnest mini games in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
If you manage to drink four cups before your opponent does then you win the match. If you manage to lose then you will still be a winner ;)
How to Fish for food, rations and cosmetics
Fishing not only gives you a time to reflect on all that has happened, but it will also replenish your health when you catch a fish and once your health bar is completely filled you will fill up your rations bag until it is filled to the maximum it can carry.
You can also trade some of the fish you catch at your settlement for cosmetics, runes and materials.
In order to fish you will need to first build a fishing hut in the Ravensthorpe Settlement.
The fishing hut becomes available when you reach the second rank and it costs 600 supplies and 45 raw materials to build. When you finally have the Fishing Hut, talk to Arth and he will get you started by giving you fishing line and a list of fishing tasks.
If you use mouse and keyboard, you can either use your quick wheel by pressing G or press N on the keyboard to get your fishing gear out.
The fishing tasks are easy but it requires time, effort and a lot of traveling all over the map. You can turn in the fish at any time, there is no need to wait until you have all of them.
Here are the steps you need to take to catch a fish:
- Aim your cast line and throw the bate into the water.
- Hook the fish.
- Catch the fish by mashing your spacebar and control the reel by using W,A,S,D or the appropriate controller buttons.
Once you get your fishing line out you press your right mousebutton and with your mouse you aim for the spot where the fish jump or you can use your raven to find fish. Then you will have to start reeling and the once a fish is hooked and you will hear a sploosh sound for that , that is when the real fight starts.
You will need to mash your spacebar and reel in the fish using W,A,S,D to get it on land. However, this is not as easy as it seems. The line will glow orange / red as you start reeling the fish in. And you will want to be careful because the more stress you put on it the more chance you will have of snapping the line.
When the line snaps, you will have lost your fish. Once the fish is near Eivor it will either automatically refill your health bar OR go straight into the inventory. The fish can be brought back to the Fishing Hut but it can also be sold for some good silver.
If you wish to know where specific fish are then make sure you buy the “Fantastic Fish and Where to Find Them” notes from vendors as they appear. These will not mark your map but they will tell you where certain fish species like to lurk.
Select your fishing line from here (the fish icon) to equip your fishing line, then hold down the left trigger to aim and the right trigger to cast. After casting you can let go of the left trigger, but keep your right trigger finger primed. The controller with vibrate and you’ll hear a loud splooshing sound when a fish bites, and you’ll need to tap the trigger to hook the fish.
The fishing task list that was mentioned before is actually quite substantial. You can earn new Runes, Cosmetics for tattoos and hair styles but also Ingots. The Fishing task in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a very rewarding mini game.
Below is a list of the fish that you will need to catch in order to gain access to the rewards.
Once you have gathered all of these then you should be able to have a substantial amount of rewards and either get stronger using the ingots for upgrades or the runes for your weapons or look a helluva lot better with the new cosmetics.
How to win the Flyting game
A little history lesson here: Flyting has been around since around 1200. And it is a contest where people exchange insults and it is often in rhyme.
The developers have done a tremendous job adding this to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Not only is it fun, but it is also very educational: you will learn more about the English language! And it is also a nice way to make extra silver by wagering some silver.
There are three wagers that you can place for your match and the winner takes all:
Charisma is a new mechanic in Assassins Creed Valhalla. And it is quite an important one too. With charisma you can unlock extra dialogue options and thus add new dimensions to the story, making it even more immersive. In some cases these choices will actually be important and rather story-altering.
Flyting is a mini game that can be found by the smiling mask on your map. Just pull up the map’s Legend and you should find the mask as displayed here.
You can typically find Flyters in and around the towns and villages that you will come across. Your first Flyting match will be in Alvis, in the starter’s area, sometimes during the Family Matters quest.
So, how to win in Flyting?
With every line spoken by your sparring partner, you must respond with an insult of your own – but in practice it can be a little stressful and easy to mess up.
Flyting seems easy but there might be some difficulties trying to win a match. Your Flyting adversary will start off the match and you will have to respond properly with an insult of your own but the time pressure can make that a little stressful and easy to mess up. Not responding in time will leave Eivor mumbling while your adversary will make fun of you for not having a proper comeback.
There are rules: Make sure it rhymes and make sure it fits the rhythm of the sentence you just heard. So look at your three options and you will quickly have to figure which one rhymes and which one fits the length of the sentence that was just said by your adversary.
Few key things to note and be aware of:
- Only one of the three responses is correct, and you need win two out of three in order to win the match.
- You can always ask your adversary to what it is he or she said.
- Nobody likes to fail but in the unfortunate case that you do, you can try again but losing also means that you have lost your wager.
- If you go for a rematch, the dialogue is the same as it was before.
How to play Orlog
Orlog is a simple game played with a set of dice and some stones that represent health. In essence players must deal enough damage to their adversary while defending their own stones. The first person to lose ALL of their health points, loses the game. But not before you throw up a fight.
The game starts with a toss to see who gets to roll the dice first and then chose whichever dice they want to play. There is a maximum that you can roll and that maximum is three. After the three rolls you get access to the God Favor.
Resolutions phase is up next and with each dice that you have chosen in that particular order and the God Favor too ofcourse. If you or your opponent does not win, the next turn starts.
After the third roll the game will automatically use the dice faces that have been rolled and there is no more rolls after that. So whatever you roll last on the third try will be your dice.
In our Orlog guide we delve deeper into the game’s mechanics along with tips and tricks on how to overcome your opponent.
