This guide will show you how to defeat Sandayu Oda in Cyberpunk 2077. He is a boss encounters in the game and is part of the main mission that is called “Play it Safe” which takes place in the Japantown, Westbrook district of Night City!
Who is Sandayu Oda
Sandayu Oda is an apprentice of Goro Takemura, the person who you work with against Arasaka. You meet Odo earlier in the game prior to this mission together with Tajkemura and attempt to talk to him into helping you out, but he refuses.
Where to find Oda in Cyberpunk 2077
Oda is a Cyberninja and a loyal bodyguard, part of the Arasaka corporation. You will meet him as a boss encounter in the mission Play It Safe and he is quite powerful!
From what I have seen so far, there is no way to avoid this fight and it is a scripted sequence that you meet him during the mission and you will have to fight him.
Oda appears suddenly as you are attempting to pull out the jack of the Arasaka Netrunner.
Then he jumps on you and you will have to immediately go into combat mode to defeat him. You can see him appearing on the window as you grab the cable to jack it out of the netrunner’s head. Oda is no easy opponent!
The next part of the guide will show and tell you a few tricks and expain the boss mechanics so you would know how to defeat Oda in Cyberpunk 2077 easily (or… relatively easy).
Boss fight mechanics explained
Sandayu Oda is a Cyberninja and his abilities resemble that. He is fast, agile and very deadly in melee range.
By the time you get to him, you would have gained some experience and quite a few levels. You should have access to a decent arsenal of weapons and tools to defeat him.
Come prepared for the fight. Craft enough Health Stims and ammo. Speaking of ammo – your best choice of weapons are ones that fire powerful shots and do not reload often. You will not have much time to reload.
I had best success in my testing against him with a Tech Precision Rifle. I used the M-179e Achilles. You can buy a legendary version of this gun from the Corpo Plaza vendor.
Shotgun would not be a good choice, because these weapons require frequent reloading and this is something you cannot afford easily against the quick movements of Oda.
Oda’s strongest weapon are his melee attacks with his red Mantis Blades. Don’t allow him to run up to you and start slashing and bashing you.
I expect by that time you should have the Kerenzikov Nervous System cyberware implant. It allows you to slow down time when dodging if you are aiming or shooting.
Since Oda relies primarily on melee abilities, you can simply keep dodging backwards. Slowing down time will allow you to fire more precisely at him and will make things easier for you.
In the first part of the fight he will chance you around the room. Keep dodging and firing at him. Monitor your Health, because his Mantis Blades have quite a reach and it is likely he will he hitting you even if you dodge a lot.
Oda’s weak spot is his head. I had a lot of fun shooting at him with the Smart Pistol Skippy. However, that weapon shoots single bullet at a time and they do not hit very hard, making it not the ideal one for this situation. Still, Skippy is the funniest weapon you will find in the game, most likely, so I suggest you get it for yourself anyway.
When Oda jumps on the catwalks and starts running around on top of the roofs, this is your time to use a Sniper Rifle, if you have one. Overwatch is a good choice.
While up on the catwalks, Oda will fire at you with a Smart Gun. This means that his bullets will home in on you. Seek to create some distance and hide behind hard obstacles like the cement packages inside the small rooms in the arena.
When you see Oda start quickly moving away (leaves red “The Flash speed effect” lines behind him), he is seeking cover to heal up.
While he is healing, he will be invisible. Quickly follow him to the spot you saw him “flash” towards and hit him to stop the healing process. He is always going to hide in one of the two small rooms in the area. He is not completely invisible as you can see from the image below.
Your reward for defeating Sandayu Oda
This is a boss you cannot avoid and I tested him a few times to make sure the loot he drops is consistent, because that is not always the case with the loot drops from enemies you defeat.
He always dropped the Jinchu-maru Iconic Katana for me. This is one of many Iconic weapons available in Cyberpunk 2077. Iconic items are unique and have an extra special custom-crafted perk that is not available in any other item.
Similarly to the other boss encounters and everything in Cyberpunk 2077, you can end this fight non-lethaly. I wont tell you what happens if you spare Odo’s life. This is for you to discover on your own.
