A Step-by-step buide on how to find Melissa Rory, the cyberpsycho girl from the Cyberpunk 2077 Teaser Trailer released way back in 2013

There is a secret mission in Cyberpunk 2077 that introduces V to the cyberpsycho girl from the game’s very first teaser trailer, released in 2013. Her name is Melissa Rory and in 2077 she is still alive and working for MaxTac. This guide will show you how to get her secret mission, interact with Melissa and learn about her past and her legendary Mantis Blades!

Who is Melissa Rory in the Cyberpunk lore

The first teaser trailer CD Projekt Released for Cyberpunk 2077 featured a cyberpsycho girl (or a woman, actually).

We see her on the ground with open Mantis Blades from both her hands. She is wearing white clothes. Blood and corpses are all over and around her.

In the cinematic trailer we see a team of highly equipped and well trained MaxTac officers preparing to take her down after an evident incident. It is said that she was suffering from cyberpsychosis and this is what caused her to went into this frenzy killing mode.

Melissa is then captured, not killed on the spot. At the end of the trailer we recognize her face under the MaxTac mask and uniform. She has the same scar on her cheek that she got from a flying a bullet fired from the MaxTac team that captured her after her incident.

Melissa Rory as a MaxTac Agent

After captured, Melissa gets converted into a MaxTac agent and from what we are about to discover and describe in the following few paragraphs of this guide, she is still alive and kicking as a MaxTac agent in the Cyberpunk universe in the year 2077.

Where to find Melissa Rory in Cyberpunk 2077

In Cyberpunk 2077 you can find Melissa Rory – the Mantis Blades girl from the game’s first Teaser Trailer in a secret side job called “Bullets”. It involves an attack of a cyberpsycho NPC who enters the fashion store Jinguji in Downtown, City Center.

Here is a very brief overview of what happens during that mission. I have a detailed step-by-step instructions of how to unlock and complete the mission at the end of the guide:

As you enter the fashion store and talk to Zane, the vendor, a cyberpsychotic guy enters and begins slaughtering the guards at the door. Zane immediately locks the store and triggers the alarm. MaxTac team of highly trained police agents arrive shortly after. The lieutenant of that team is Melissa Rory, who is the exact same girl we saw some eight years ago in the first teaser trailer about Cyberpunk 2077.

You will need to be high level and prepared as this NPC is tough to take down (unless you are level 50 with a maxed build, like I was when I first discovered it).

The reason the “Bullets” side job is secret is probably a result of CD Projekt Red being forced to redesign a potential story ark around it. You might have actually been allowed to become a MaxTac agent in an early build of the game and help them solve Cyberpsychosis cases and other events. Or… this is just another secret for us to discover, like the awesome bike you can get from the secret side job “The Hyghwayman”.

The mission also ends too soon – right after you talk to Melissa and explain what you saw and did in the store after the cyberpsycho’s attack.

You can have one more conversation with Melissa to make her reveal more details about herself and her Mantis Blades weapon model. In this conversation lies one of the several clues that she is indeed the same girl from the first cinematic trailer for Cyberpunk 2077.

Melissa’s Mantis Blades are model 20-13. The trailer, officially named “Cyberpunk 2077 Teaser Trailer” was released on January 10, 2013.

Fun fact: Melissa’s name is spelled with a double-S in the dialogue lines, but it appears as “Melisa Rory” when you Inspect her.

Melisa Rory vs Melissa Rory

Melissa’s appearance in Cyberpunk 2077 is only in this secret side job “Bullets”. The name of the job is also most likely inspired by the that same trailer we see her as a cyberpsycho.

In the trailer bullets fly all over the place in slow-motion and one of them hits her left cheek, breaks into many small pieces and leaves a mark on that spot.

Sadly, when we meet Melissa in the game, that mark is not visible. It’s been a long time, so it’s logical that she might have upgraded herself with RealSkin or any other implant to hide that mark.

The more logical explanation, however, lies in the actual spot where that marker was. In the trailer the bullet hits her above the bottom line of her nose, which is covered by her MaxTac mask in the game when we see her.

She does keep her Mantis Blades, however. To remind herself of the things she has done in what now seems like a distant different life.

How to find the girl from Cyberpunk 2077's First Trailer In-Game

The mysterious Mantis Blades girl from the Cyberpunk 2077 Teaser Trailer from 2013 is named Melissa Rory. Back then she was a cyberpsycho, now she works for NCPD's MaxTac. To meet her in Cyberpunk 2077 you need to do a secret side job called Bullets. This step-by-step guide will help you do exactly that!

Instructions

  1. Go to Downtown, City Center. The store is called "Junguji" and is on the west sidewalk of Senate Ave. Cyberpunk 2077 Jinguji Fashion Store Location map Jinguji store vendor Zane
  2. Enter and speak to the vendor Zane, who is behind his desk. It should not matter what you talk about. Just introduce yourself, browse through his contents and then exit. Jinguji store vendor Zane
  3. When outside, you need to put enough distance between you and the store's entrance. Going to this location on the map would be far enough. Zane
  4. Open the map to see if the new mission has spawned. When you see it, head back to the store and speak to Zane again. He will stand from his chair and walk around the desk. Zane
  5. It doesn't matter which chat option you choose. In the video guide I am showing you the dialogue for the high Attribute requirement option. When Zane finishes talking, a cyberpsycho will break into the store. At this point Zane will trigger the alarm and lock you all up inside with the crazy guy. Fight the Cyberpsycho in Jinguji Store
  6. Defeat the Cyberpsycho. You need to. A moment later the MaxTac team will enter the store with Melissa Rory in front of them all. Talk to her and tell her what happened.
  7. When prompted, sit down on the couch on the right side of the store, next to Zane Tell Melisa what happened in the store
  8. Introduce yourself to Melissa and tell her what happened from your point of view. Tell Melisa what happened in the store
  9. When you finish, stand up. The mission will complete at this point. Melissa will go to the Cyberpsycho corpse. Here comes the fun part! Approach her and have a second chat with her about what you did and how you felt. If you cover the Tech Attribute requirements, ask her about the Mantis Blades. She will confirm that this is an old 2013 model that is no longer available as of 2069. Once again confirming that she is the same girl from the trailer. Ask Melisa about her Mantis Blades
  10. At the end of the conversation Melissa will offer you to join MaxTac. Both options for answer will not allow you to accept her offer, but, who knows, maybe a DLC or one of the expansions will bring this option. Melisa asks you to join MaxTac
  11. To have access to the store again, exit and move back to the same spot you did to spawn the mission. I did that and also skipped time by 48 hours, just in case. When you return, Zane will welcome you back with more offerings from his store. There's also an extra optional dialogue line for you - to ask Zane how the attack reflected on the store's reputation and on him personally. You'd be surprised by the answer. Maybe. Go back to Zane after MaxTac are gone
  12. Shortly after you complete this secret mission, Zane will contact you via a message on your phone and ask if you want to hear a gossip. Reply with yes to continue the conversation and read his "gossip" about the ex-cyberpsycho Melissa Rory who was forced to join the team after her incident on January 14th, when she reportedly killed fourteen people before she was captured (as we see on the pre-=release teaser trailer) Message from Zane revealing who Melissa Rory was before she joined MaxTac - Cyberpunk 2077 secret mission with the teaser trailer cyberpsycho girl

Notes

The side job "Bullets", featuring Melissa Rory from the first trailer of the game, is a high-level mission. The cyberpsycho you encounter in the clothing store is a high threat and is dangerous to undertake if you are not high level and now wearing decent gear and have a proper Attributes and Skills build. There is no way to progress the mission unless you defeat him. MaxTac will not show up until you deal with the crazy guy.

The mission has no direct relations with any other jobs or stories in the game, apart from a brief mention of Melissa in a document you can find in the lab during "The Hunt" side job with River Ward.

In the current build of Cyberpunk 2077 (1.11) there is a known bug that is present since launch related to clothing stores and their contents - make sure you make a manual save before you enter the store for the first time to have a point-of-return in case you cannot see the Legendary items among the offerings of the vendor.

There is currently no other way to unlock and do this mission as far as I am aware. It seems like it's a left-over from a larger jobs chain or perhaps a unique sequence of events where you actually can join MaxTac.

If you want to see the dialogue options with the high Attribute Points requirements, check out the attached video to this guide!

What are the benefits of doing the “Bullets” secret side job

As a thank you for helping Zane with the cyberpsycho attacker and defeating him before MaxTac team arrives, you are granted a special “something” from the store.

And indeed once you return to Zane later, he will be offering his contents are a much lower price. A quick example I can give is with the Legendary Clothing Mod “Fortuna”. Originally it costs over 263,000 Eddies when I open the inventory of the store. After the mission the same mod is discounted down to ~184,000 Eddies.

If you want to know where to find more (and free!) items like these, check out the massive Cyberpunk 2077 Legendary and Iconic Gear Locations guide I have compiled with the great help from the Cyberpunk 2077 community!

As I mentioned in the notes attached to the step-by-step walkthrough above, you cannot join MaxTac, not even the Police. However, in the final version of the game you can assist them with various criminal events. You can also help Regina catch and bring in crazy guys from the Cyberpsycho Sightings side jobs. You wont be a part of a MaxTac team, you will work alone, as always.

I feel like in an earlier version of the game during development these side jobs were part of a more evolved story ark, featuring Melissa Rory. Or perhaps I just wish for it to be so.

In case you have never seen it or have forgotten about it, here is the original Teaser Trailer for Cyberpunk 2077, released by CD Projekt Red in early 2013 when the game was still in pre-production.

It’s amazing how much of this scene remained the same – the Mantis Blades, the RealSkin design, the MaxTac uniforms, the guns, the Police vehicle, the overall atmosphere of Night City in the background, even the posters behind Melissa are also items visible in the finished game all over the city.
