This is a guide to help you learn how to defeat Outriders Moloch. Here you will find out everything you need to know about the special abilities and attacks of this boss , all of the mechanics and – of course – how to defeat the Altered!

This guide contains light spoilers. Its goal is to help you defeat the boss easily, so keep reading if you’d rather not go into it completely blind or if you have already tried it and need a bit of advice how to beat it

Crossing No Man’s Land to Moloch

In Outriders Moloch is the Third Major boss of the game, fought in the Trench Town region of the story. This boss takes the form of a fiery Altered foe.

The “Onslaught” quest leading up to the Moloch fight has you assisting on the front lines of a war between Grand Marshal Corrigan’s forces and the Insurgents. You’ll fight your way to and through the enemy’s trenches. These trenches are filled with Insurgents of all ranks and the closer you get to their base, the more Elites you will see in the process.

Just before the exit of the trenches is a restock crate. Use this to replenish your ammo and take time to prepare for the fight.

Preparing for the Moloch Encounter

Unlike some of Outriders other bosses, Moloch being an Altered means there’s less limitations as to what abilities work, but also means he can be interrupted. Having an Interrupt Skill is incredibly helpful.

Moloch will not create any projectiles that can be reflected, so if you’re built around that, swapping to alternative abilities would be a good idea.

The only recommendation for gear changes is to make sure you have some form of Skill or Weapon Life Leech. Moloch doesn’t have any adds, so it will be your only way to recover in this fight. With careful play, since Moloch has no instant cast skills, you can avoid nearly all of his damage.

If you are wiping continuously on this boss, check if your gear is updated and upgraded. Gear and Mods in Outriders play significant role for your combat performance and success. Another option is to just lower the World Tier (the difficulty of the game). However, keep in mind that the higher the World Tier, the better rewards you get.

For higher World Tiers building your character properly is done mostly through the crafting system in Outriders. And our dedicated guide will help you learn how to best use your resources and get the most out of your current gear.

The Moloch Boss special attacks and tactics explained

With Moloch being an altered, that means he has no phases and can be interrupted. Most of his attacks are easily avoided, so we’ll point out the ones that are worth interrupting when we cover his attacks one by one so you’d know how to defeat Moloch.

Outriders Moloch Altered Boss

Unlike most other humanoid enemies, Moloch’s weakpoint is not his head. Instead, it’s the head of the effigy on his back.

Weak Point

This can make it tricky to hit at times, but it’s also very vulnerable during his casting animations.

Moloch’s fight and attack pattern can be a bit random at times, but he will often start the fight off with Flame Barrage.

Flame Barrage attack cast

This attack has three large fireballs hurled at the player from the sky like comets.

Flame Barrage circles

This attack does considerable damage as well as inflicts a burn if it hits. These fireballs will always fall in a perfect line pattern from Moloch but centered on the player.

This has a long delay so you can easily sprint or roll out of the area very comfortably.

His second attack is Wandering Flame. Moloch will summon a pillar of fire that will track and follow you across the arena, dealing high damage and inflicting a Burn if it touches you. It’s recommended you Interrupt this attack.

Out of all of Moloch’s attacks, this one is the worst to deal with as it not only follows you, it can end up blocking part of your vision making it harder to avoid other attacks.

Moloch’s third attack is Solar Blast. Familiar with Dragonball Z’s Kamehamha? This is sort of one of those, as Moloch will launch a blast of concentrated solar energy at a player.

This skill has a long cast time, which can be interrupted by simply sprinting or rolling to the side of where he targets it. It will hit hard and is one of his hardest hitting skills, so it’s worth avoiding. If it does hit, it will send you flying backwards a bit, and prevent movement during this animation.

Moloch’s fourth attack is Fire Dash. Moloch will target a player and attempt to teleport on top of them, arriving in a burst of flames.

Upon finishing the teleport, the area of the skill targets becomes a patch of burning ground for short time.

This skill has a quick cast so it can be difficult to interrupt. It can however easily be avoided by sprinting or rolling away from the targeted area.

Moloch’s last attack is Immolation. Moloch will target a large area and summon a pillar of fire.

This one is stationary and leaves behind a patch of burning ground for a few seconds after the initial cast. Since this one has a quick cast time, it can also be hard to interrupt, but worth doing so if you can manage it.

Once Moloch’s Health has been depleted, a cutscene will play. This Cutscene has Moloch going nuclear, creating a explosion that appears to wipe out most everything in the vicinity.

After this Cutscene you can collect your loot and report back to Grand Marshal Corrigan to continue the story.
