RubyRose by RubyRose|

This collection of tips should help you out on your journey through Enoch, making your progression smoother and even help you out in the end game. Learn the Outriders DOs and follow them, stay away from the Outriders DONTs.

Note: This guide does not contain any story spoilers. It shares interesting tips and tricks to help you improve your gameplay and combat performance as well as progress through the levels and into the Endgame easier and smoother. Here you will not find any narrative and plot reveals. Feel free to continue to read even if you have not started the game yet.

This first one should be obvious if it hasn’t been already. LOOT EVERYTHING. Common gear will turn into extra Scrap, and Uncommons can be made useful if you choose to do so. Either way, the items you pick up will still get you crafting resources when you dismantle them.

As far as loot drops go, Always Scrap Higher Tier Items, Sell Low Tier Items. Starting out, Scrapping high tier items will get you your mods and let you build if your mod Library. Lower tiers won’t offer more than attribute shards past a certain point, while higher tiers will give significantly more. Selling lower tier armor, Common up to Rare, will give you scrap which will let you buy gear as potential upgrades or even just for their mods. If you need a better idea of how gear works, check out our Gear and Mods guide, which covers these points thoroughly.

Speaking of crafting, especially in the Early Game, Level Up your items before adjusting their rarity, especially if they are being upgraded to Epic. The Rarity upgrade is a higher but flat cost, however the materials needed to Level up an item increase from Uncommon to Rare and changes from basic materials to Titanium when upgraded to Epic. Titanium is much harder to come by early on without a ton of farming.

That being said, if you’re looking to keep Gear on Level Easier, Stick to mostly Rare Armor until World Tier 10. At this point, Epics become much more regular drops, so it’ll be easier to move into full Epic Gear at this point. Titanium will also be much more readily available.

Outriders DOs and DONTs Beginners Guide - Rare Armor usages
While leveling you will swap your gear very often. Don’t get hung up on an item’s rarity only.

Another good point for crafting, Swap Mods Often. Keeping yourself properly modded as you find gear upgrades can be incredibly helpful. Keeping a consistent mod setup throughout the campaign is very helpful and will help you manage to progress easier.

Along with Swapping Mods, you should also Swap Abilities Often as well. Sometimes all you need is a different ability setup to push through an encounter. Some abilities just won’t work against certain bosses, so it’s better to have three usable skills than to have a dead skill slot. If you’re wondering what abilities you should swap out for certain boss encounters, you can refer to our Boss Guides, which highlight these issues.

If all else fails, Don’t be Afraid of Lowering World Tiers. Some classes can struggle with certain encounters, don’t fret. While you won’t get amazing loot, you’ll get plenty of loot still. If something end up being useful you can always make usable through crafting.

The story of Outriders is quite good and you do not want to let anything discourage you from reaching its end and venture into the EndGame. More about narrative later, though.

If you struggle continuously, don’t be afraid to lower the World Tier.

Be wary when buying Armor and Weapons from vendor though, they’ll often be slightly below your max level. Its recommend you only buy Gear if they have a mod you want for your build(s). Plenty of Gear will drop as you play, and is often more than enough to keep you geared along with a little crafting.

Following this rule for loot also lets you do something important, Keep Your Inventory Open. As you climb in World Tiers, more and more loot will start to drop, so it’s best to be prepared to carry all of it, so it doesn’t get move to your Stash and forgotten.

Keep your Inventory clean before you head out.

This loot rule also lets you stockpile Scrap, if you don’t spend it all. Which on top of being able to spend on gear, you can also use to Purchase Titanium from an NPC that you meet shortly after Trench Town (a popular town hub in the early to mid game). This will let you upgrade your Epics and Legendaries relatively easy and keep them on par with your current World Tier for the most Armor and Firepower.

As you Progress in World Tiers, you also earn rewards. Do NOT stack these World Tier rewards and try to to claim them at WT15. You will only end up with drops of that specific World Tier, regardless of when you claim them.

Enjoy the Story. Whether or not story is your thing, Outriders actually has a fairly good story to it, unlike a lot of Looter Shooters. Its worth at least paying attention to the main story so you can understand why you’re doing the things you’re doing. Even the context behind Expeditions makes less sense without listening to the story.

If Story and Lore of a game are your thing, Do the Sidequests and Historian Quests. The Side quests are optional, but on top of giving you a boost to World Tier 15, they also go a little deeper into the Lore side of things and can provide interesting context. Historian quests also give a bit of insight to some of Enoch’s past as well as some Epic Items.

Outriders DOs and DONTs tips for beginners - Explore the areas for chests
The zones are a bit narrow, but if you explore them properly, you will always find extra loot and materials in the corners.

If Story isn’t your thing exactly, Beast Hunts and Bounties are still Worth doing. Beast Hunts will each rewards you with several Epic drops as well as another Epic Armor on quest turn in. Bounties are similar in rewards most times, but reward Epic Weapons on completions. Completing the full set of either Hunts or Bounties will give you a special reward and allow you to repeat them. Since these can be repeated, they’re best to do as they unlock.

Don’t Stress out if you completed the Campaign without hitting World Tier 15. It’s not a necessary step, but it does gives you a boost into a slightly higher Challenge Tier to start with. You’ll be able to learn all about Expeditions and Challenge Tiers in our Expedition Guides, which are currently being put together.

When it comes to Classes and Combat, certain classes will handle some encounters better than others.

For new players, Devastators and Technomancers are the best classes to start and level with. Devastators have a lot Mitigation, while Technomancers have a good amount of Sustain. These qualities make them easier to handle when modded properly. They will typically struggle less when played solo and do equally well in parties.

For experienced players, Trickster and Pyromancer can be solid options to start with too. However, these classes tend to be more fragile, so they’re not necessarily the best starts for someone new to the genre. The Pyromancer has tons of options for dealing damage in a large area. The Trickster tends to be excellent at melting Elites and bosses when geared up.

Do Exploit Weapon Advantages. Most classes have a weapon or weapon class they get bonuses for in the skill tree. Take advantage of these to have an easier time with progressing. In particular Trickster has bonuses for assault weapons, shotguns, and has close range bonuses; Technomancer has a strong bonus for assault weapons, snipers, and long range damage; Pyromancer has bonuses for assault weapons and Snipers, with plenty of bonus damage to enemies they mark with skills; Devastators have bonuses for assault weapons and shotguns, with additional bonuses for close range damage.

Keeping those details in mind.. When Playing in Co-Op, Do try to balance Your Party. This will make it easier to get through content as opposed to say… several high damage, low survivability builds. No single class is mandatory, but make sure one or more players are geared to be able to handle the content.

While most weapons in Outriders will benefit from aiming down its sights, Don’t try to constantly be in Aiming Mode. This limits your field of view pretty substantially. Plenty of later enemies will have damage indicators for their attacks that you will want to see.

Outriders Beginners Tips - aiming
Don’t spend all of your in-combat time in aiming mode. You are missing on what’s happening around you and that may cost you.

When it’s safe to do so, Use Aiming Mode to target weak points. For most enemies, this will be their head. Weak points are guaranteed critical hits, so no need to rely on luck for huge damage. There’s a lot of mods that have synergy with Critical hits as well, so you’ll be able to take advantage of those.

The battle zones in Outriders offer plenty of places to take cover. It is not a cover-based shooter, though. Playing aggressively is much more rewarding. Don’t hide behind cover all the time, trying to pick your enemies from distance, you are not going to be safe behind that cover for very long anyway. However, you should also use cover to gain tactical and strategical advantage. Staying behind cover for a few seconds, while waiting for your abilities to come off cooldown, is very important in the heart of the battle.

How and when to use Cover in Outriders
Outriders is not a cover-shooter. Use Cover wise and tactically right to gain advantage, but don’t hide behind them all the time. Be aggressive.

This next tip is for all platforms and is related to multiplayer. If you are reading this guide while the “Crossplay” feature is still in beta testing mode, consider turning Crossplay off if you are experiencing crashing or any other multiplayer-related issues. People Can Fly are actively working on a solution, but they have been saying that since launch and we still have not seen a stable and working one at the time of this publication.

The next couple of tips are for PC players mostly.

If you opt to play with a gun-focused build, and you use the special ammo skill that Pyromancers, Technomancers and Tricksters have, place the Ammo Skill in the second slot. For PC players this would mean that you will be able to have a little easier access to the abilities in Slot 1 and Slot 3 using your fingers that are a bit less busy with movements.

Outriders DOs and DONTs tips and tricks for beginners - place ammo skill in slot 2
On PC having the “Bullet Ability” on the second slot, frees up your “1” and “3” to be used by fingers that are not constantly pressing “W” or “S”.

If you own a modern Nvidia GPU and play Outriders on a PC, you should definitely activate the DLSS feature from the game’s menu. This is a great way to improve your FPS in-game, lower the possible stuttering and mitigate the annoying frame-drops.

I hope you found this guide to the Outriders DOs and DONTs tips and tricks for beginners useful, interesting and helpful! Check out the rest of our Beginner-friendly guides, Class Guides and best builds for each, Boss guides and Endgame guides.
