How to Defeat Altered Bailey in Outriders (Ancient Ruins Boss)

RubyRose by RubyRose|

This is a guide to the Outriders Altered Bailey Boss from the Ancient Ruins zone on Enoch. Here you will find everything you need to know about the special abilities and attacks of the newly Altered Bailey, all of the mechanics and – of course – how to defeat the traitor!

The guide contains light spoilers. Its goal is to help you defeat the boss easily, so keep reading if you’d rather not go into it completely blind or if you have already tried it and need a bit of advice how to beat it.

Reaching the Ancient Ruins

In Outriders, Altered Bailey is the fifth major story boss of the game, fought in the Ancient Ruins region of the story. This boss is a recently Altered Bailey who defiantly attacks you.

Upon reaching the Ruins as you flee the Anomaly Storm, you’ll see August (Agst) appearing to channel energy into an Obelisk. August is protecting you from the Anomaly Storm, however Bailey mistakes it as August is creating the Anomaly Storm and tackles August. In the process, Bailey gets injured by August’s crystal, rendering her Altered. Realizing the power she’s recently gained she turns on your party, you in particular, as August flees.

Outriders Ancient Ruins Lore

This is one of the final steps of the “Relics” quest. Once reaching this point, you’ll be locked into this fight, as defeat will only start the cutscene once again. Like other bosses thus far, you can return to the Game Lobby and set your Story Point to re-mod and prepare better. However you may have to repeat part of this quest.

Preparing for the Altered Bailey Encounter

Altered Bailey can be a particularly dangerous fight, as it happens more suddenly than the other bosses in the story. While she doesn’t have quite as much health as larger foes like the previous Chrysaloid Boss Encounter did, she packs quite a punch with her attacks.

Make sure you have one or several skills that can Interrupt, as a lot of her harder hitting attacks can be Interrupted. These attacks usually have large Area of Effect zones, so interrupting is the easiest way to avoid the damage.

In general, she’s more of a ranged fight, or much safer fought from range. In this case, Skills that narrow this distance are not recommended for this fight. Stick to whatever ranged options you have, if any. If you don’t have many ranged options, use mods that can disrupt her longer or bolster your defense.

Given you’ll want to keep distance from her, Assault Rifles, Light Machine Guns, and One-Shot Rifles tend to do well against her, if modded appropriately.

If you are wiping continuously on this boss, check if your gear is updated and upgraded. Gear and Mods in Outriders play significant role for your combat performance and success. Another option is to just lower the World Tier (the difficulty of the game).

Keep in mind that the higher the World Tier, the better rewards you get. Better read this guide to learn how to defeat the Outriders Altered Bailey boss and get nice powerful loot than to lower the difficulty, breeze through the encounter and get worse rewards.

For higher World Tiers building your character properly is done mostly through the crafting system in Outriders. And our dedicated guide will help you learn how to best use your resources and get the most out of your current gear.

Altered Bailey Attacks and Tactics

Like most Altered encounters in Outriders, despite how few are in the campaign, Altered Bailey does not have any distinct phases. This however does mean she has and uses all of her attacks right from the start of the fight.

How to defeat Altered Bailey Boss in Outriders

Like most Humanoid enemies, Altered Bailey’s weak point is her head. Given the range you’ll be fighting her from, it can be a bit difficult to hit consistently.

Altered Bailey Weak Spot - her head

Altered Bailey will often fire her weapon at you in the downtime between her casting. Right at the start of the fight, while she’s unable to act, it’s best to retreat to the pillars behind you in the arena. These provide plenty of cover against her gun fire and limit the additional damage she can deal with it.

Altered Bailey’s first attack is Rock Spikes. This attack will create several projectile that fall behind you.

Rock Spikes Cast

So long as you’re at medium range as suggested and you don’t move backwards after she casts it, you shouldn’t be in too much risk for it to hit you.

Altered Bailey’s second attack is Ground Shock. This is a very quick attack she can get off, which has a very small window to be interrupted. This attack hits a wide cone-shaped are in front of her with medium range. This is the attack that makes us heavily advise fighting her from range as this attack can easily do a large portion of your health, often 75% or more depending on your Gear.

Altered Bailey’s third attack is Stone Wave. This attack isn’t particularly dangerous or worth interrupting. As long as you’re not close to her, it can be evaded with a simply roll to the side after she finishes the cast timer.

Altered Bailey’s fourth ability is Veil of Stones. This skill isn’t so much of an attack, and rather a buff for her.

This will give her a temporary barrier that mitigates damage, similar to the Devastator’s Golem ability. This skill isn’t worth interrupting unless your weapons aren’t very powerful to start with. Most weapons can deal with this ability pretty quickly as it will only prevent a limited amount of damage.

From story perspective this is quite a unique moment and rare to see in other games, but we will not reveal what happens next, of course.
