CD Projekt announced the return of Cyberpunk 2077 to the Playstation Store. The game is available for purchase and backwards compatible!
Following the disastrous launch on consoles and unbelievably bad performance Sony kicked Cyberpunk 2077 out of the Playstation store.
The official statement was that the company cannot tolerate such a bad game and promote it to their customers. Why other atrocities tat dare to call themselves video games continue to be available on their store, is a different topic, for a different time and place perhaps.
Today CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077 is available again on the Playstation store. The game is backwards compatible for players, who own a Playstation 5.
At this moment in time Cyberpunk 2077 still looks a bit weird on consoles and some issues continue to plague the game in terms of performance.
Many reports and tests state that the increased performance on Playstation 4 was gained at the expense of some of the street crowd.
Even before release CD Projekt Red revealed that a 100% free upgrade will be delivered for all console players, who own the next-gen consoles and want to experience the game at its full potential.
This patch was originally planned for the first half of 2021. The Cyberpunk 2021 roadmap announcement changed that to “second half of 2021”.
The upgrade is still coming and it will still be free for all players, who purchased the game. That’s not changed.
Here is the official announcement from a moment ago that the polish studio released:
“In addition to the game being available on PlayStation 4, anyone who purchases the game can also play it on PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility. Furthermore, a free PlayStation 5 upgrade for the game will be coming in the second half of 2021 — and will be available for all owners of the PlayStation 4 version of Cyberpunk 2077, including both digital and disc. The upgrade will allow the title to take full advantage of the new console’s more powerful hardware.”
And a disclaimer is officially present warning about the potential performance issues and framerate drops that I mentioned earlier:
“Users may continue to experience some performance issues with the PS4 edition while CD PROJEKT RED further works to improve stability across all platforms. Playing on PS4 Pro and PS5 will provide the best Cyberpunk 2077 experience on PlayStation.”
The developers have released so far nine patches. Some of them were critical hotfixes for important bugs and issues, others were regular updates containing a larger amount of game improvements.
Many of the improvements were related to bug fixes. A large amount of the patches dealt with issues players experienced while doing the missions from the main storyline of the game.
A ton of improvements were made in the graphical department specifically for consoles. You are less likely to experience such dramatic lack and delay of textures loading.
Specifically the most recent patch 1.23 fixed a number of game-breaking bugs occurring during the main missions and some of the most popular gigs (side missions).
With that said, you can get yourself familiar with all of the recent changes by reading the Cyberpunk 2077 Patch Notes for each update released so far in our Cyberpunk 2077 archives!
Sadly, most of the glaring problems, such as bad AI and the silly police behavior, are still present and I personally will be surprised if we see any significant improvement on them any time soon.
Don’t forget that in 2021 CD Projekt Red is releasing not just the next-gen console updates, but also a bunch of free DLCs. We also have expansions to wait for, so the future of Cyberpunk 2077 may get much brighter.
If not in 2021, then maybe in 2022 and beyond as the developers are seemingly sticking to the game and determine to bring it to where it was expected to be.
