CD Projekt RED and Netflix revealed the full details about the two days of live streams coming up on July 9 and 10, part of the first WitcherCon event!
About two weeks ago the polish game developer CD Projekt Red and the streaming giant Netflix announced the very first WitcherCon – a brand new virtual event taking place online on July 9th and 10th this Summer.
Today we know what the live streams will offer in detail as the full schedule for all panels and discussions has been revealed as well!
The two live streams will contain unique events, but also a few re-runs from the first stream into the second to make sure everyone can watch them and… to fill up two streams worth of content, I guess.
Day 1 Schedule (July 9)
The first live stream will kick off at 19:00 CEST. That’s 6pm UTC. The show will open up with a panel called “The Witcher Season 2: Deck of Destiny“.
The panel will include interviews with some of the main cast and crew of the show, including Anya Chalotra, who plays Yennefer, Freya Allan, who plays Ciri, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (showrunner) and more.
The panelists will answer fan-questions by drawing cards. These are not going to be ordinary cards, of course. The panel promises many surprises and behind-the-scenes reveals.
The main topic of the first panel will be the filming of Season 2 of Netflix’s The Witcher series.
The next event is dedicated to Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. This title launched more than two years ago and has been growing ever since. If you have never tried it, stop by this event to learn how it works and get some nice beginner tips eventually.
The Gwent presentation will be followed by an interview with actresses Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan, who will discuss the evolution of their characters – Yennefer and Ciri – during the course of the first season of The Witcher TV show. We will also get a brief preview of what to expect from them in Season 2.
The second Panel from this live stream is entitled “Memories from the Path: Stories Behind the Witcher Games – Part 1“. Quite a long title, yeah!
It’s been about thirteen years since the first Witcher game and if you take a look back now, the series saw incredible progress with the Witcher 3 being the latest addition and the pinnacle of success for CD Projekt Red.
This panel will be dedicated to the video games and will feature developers of the games talking about their experience and struggles in bringing Geralt to your PC (or consoles) screens.
Note that there will be a Part 2 of this on the next day!
The next panel of the first day is called “Geralt of T-Rivia“. This one will once again include familiar faces like Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, but here’s a few more you might not know about:
- Declan De Barra – The Witcher: Blood Origin Showrunner – This is an upcoming tv show from Netflix that will detail events pre-dating the main series by some 1200 years, in an elven world, filled with wonders and monsters.
- Blazej Augustynek and Philipp Weber – Acting Lead Quest Designers at CDPR
These key figures and creators of stories within the world of The Witcher will team up to test their knowledge and play a quiz-style game. The panel will also contain some behind-the-scenes segments and sneak peeks with minor spoilers.
“Inside Kaer Morhen” is the name of a presentation that will follow up. It will detail some of the ancient history of the legendary Witchers fortress and its connections to the Witcher mythology and the Wolf School in particular.
After that we should expect to see a clip or two about the Witcher mobile game, which allows you to “see” monsters from the Witcher universe on your phone, hunt them down and defeat them.
The segment is called “Monster Slayer: Live the life of a Witcher” and sounds more like an advertisement of that mobile game rather than anything else.
Another segment will follow, this time dedicated to the figures of characters and monsters that you can get. “The World of the Witcher Figures” will likely be a short presentation showcasing the various figures that CD Projekt Red and their partners have created.
I am ashamed to admit that I don’t own any of them, but I do have the Collector’s Edition figure for Cyberpunk 2077 and its quality is absolutely outstanding.
As you can expect, the best is saved for last – the final Panel of the July 9 live stream is titled “Tales from the White Wolf: A Spotlight Conversation with Henry Cavil“.
This last event will also close WitcherCon, but will do it in style. Geral of Rivia himself Henry Cavil will sit own with moderator Josh Horowitz for an in-depth conversation about fantasy, destiny and all things The Witcher.
The hosts of the event promise a surprise or two in the end.
The official WitcherCon website states that The Witcher 4 will not be announced on this WitcherCon. However, hints about its development and existence have been all around us and I would not be surprised if Henry, who is a big gamer by the way, gets the privilege to hint once again at an upcoming video game based on The Witcher world.
Day 2 Events (July 10)
The second live stream will kick off at 3:00 UTC – not long after the first one ends. The first panel is again labeled – “The Witcher Season 2: Deck of Destiny“.
I could not find a confirmation if this will be a re-run of the Day 1 panel or a continuation. Based on how the official website of the event labels this panel, it is more likely to be a re-run.
After that panel we will see again the presentation about Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, followed by a new panel “CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher: Beyond Video Games“.
This panel will reveal upcoming comic books and the new board game inspired by the franchise. If you have not yet read The Witcher comic books from Darkhorse, you are missing a lot!
Immediately after that we will see Part 2 of “Memories from the Path: Stories Behind the Witcher Games“. This panel will reveal more of the secrets, decisions and memories from the developers, who brought Geralt’s adventures to PC and game consoles.
The next on the schedule is again the “Geralt of T-Rivia” panel. And once again it is not clearly stated if this is a re-run of the Day 1 panel or a continuation. The WitcherCon site lists the exact same participants and it doesn’t state that this is a “part 2” or not.
Following that the live stream will continue with what appear to be short presentations and interviews. We will learn what it takes to bring The Witcher to Anime from a behind-the-scenes look with the Studio Mir, who will talk about the upcoming Netflix Anime Film “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf“.
The next in line are the two presentations from Day 1 about the mobile game and the Witcher figures. followed by the Inside Kaer Morhen segment.
The first ever WitcherCon will end with the panel “Tales from the White Wolf: A Spotlight Conversation with Henry Cavil“, which will be a re-run most likely of the Day 1 panel with the same name.
