New World Editions differences and Bonuses explained

Wondering which New World Edition to buy and what you will get with it? This guide breaks down all editions available and what each includes

At this time there are two of the three editions available: Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition and the Amazon-exclusive Steelbook Edition which is unfortunately sold out.

All Pre-orders between July 20th and August 2nd allowed you access to the Closed Beta for this period. They also come with a variety of extra goodies, which may be of interest to some players.

Standard Edition

The Standard Edition is very simple as you’d expect, mainly offering just the game. It does still however have a nice set of Pre-order bonuses that are mostly cosmetic, outside of one item. Since this edition is just the price of the game, there’s no additional costs for these bonuses. Even if they aren’t high value, they are still bonuses.

New World Editions Guide - Standard Edition

First on the list of these bonuses is the In-Game Title, “Expedition One”. This marks your status as being among the first players in Aeternum. While it’s a very simple thing that can be shown off later on down the line, titles often tend to be overshadowed by the harder to achieve titles in-game. Will this be the case in New World as well? Possibly.

Next is the Fist Bump Emote. This simple emote is a nice bonus to have as unlike titles, emotes tend to be fun to use whenever. While there can always be flashier emotes, sometimes a simple emote can mean a lot.

Then there’s a Set of Guild Crests to be used in-game. These could suffer the same issues as Titles, since these will also be overwhelmingly common. If there are earnable crests, they could get overshadowed very easily.

Finally, there’s Isabella’s Amulet.

This amulet can be equipped to give you some minor stat bonuses of 1 Constitution and the Lost Bane perk, which increases your damage to Lost. This does help in the early game a bit, but will also very quickly be replaced.

Deluxe Edition

The Deluxe Edition comes with additional goodies and cosmetics on top of sharing the same pre-order bonuses as the Standard Edition. It comes at an additional cost (in my case an additional $10 USD), so you are paying for these extra goodies, but it’s a small price if they’re of interest.

New World Editions Guide - Deluxe Edition

First is the Woodsman Armor Skin. This cosmetic will be applied over your current armor. It has a very forest-like appearance. Below are some previews of this armor, so you can see how it appears in-game. Being an Armor Skin and knowing the game is going to have a micro-transaction store, this can still be a way to show off, but will quickly become less appealing as more skins are released.

Next is the matching Woodsman Hatchet Skin. This skin lets you give the same forest-like appearance to a hatchet. Below are image previews of this weapon skin so you can see its in-game appearance. Being a Weapon Skin and knowing the game is going to have a micro-transaction store, this can still be a way to show off, but will quickly become less appealing as more skins are released. It’s also more limited in the fact that it is for just the hatchet and not a set of skins.

To learn the basics of weapons in New World, we have just the Beginners Guide you need. Check it out to find out how each weapon works, what their individual skill trees are like and which one best fits your playstyle.

Then there’s the Mastiff House Pet. You won’t be able to use this until you unlock housing at level 20. This pet will hang out in your house. Being tied to the Deluxe edition and not pre-order exclusive however means this pet will likely get overshadowed by future pet designs. It’s still a unique pet however, and cannot be obtained any other way.

Next is the Rock, Paper, Scissors Emote. Much like the Fist Bump Emote that comes with all pre-orders, it may get overshadowed by other micro-transactions later on, but will definitely see plenty of use, even if just for fun.

Finally, there’s the Digital Art Book. For me personally, this is the best bonus for the Deluxe Edition. Art Books tend to be very enjoyable to look at, and see how things went from concept to execution. This Digital Art Book is exclusive to the Deluxe and Steelbook Editions.

Steelbook Edition

Even though this Amazon-exclusive edition was sadly a limited quantity run and was bought out within a short time of being announced, it’s still an edition and needs to be covered. There’s always a small chance with how successful it was, there may be other opportunities to get this in the future. Or you could look for it as a “second-hand purchase”.

This edition was essentially the Deluxe Edition with the addition of a couple physical items. The Steelbook game case itself, and a map of Aeternum. Without access to these items to take images of them, it’s hard to say if it justified the further price bump. Physical goods are always nice collector’s items at the very least. It will depend on if they decide to re-release this edition again at a later time or not.

From what I have found, the Steelbook Disc Case has a very simple and clean looking design. The only examples of it I’ve found were on the Steelbook site itself and it’s one of the key art pieces from the site, shown below. Like most Steelbooks, it does look impressive.

The only available image of the Aeternum Map that I’ve been able to find so far is the one above and the one from the promotional art, showing off both the case and the map.

Which New World Edition to get?

With there only being two available editions and them both sharing the same pre-order bonuses with no differences, the easiest choice is the Standard Edition

The Standard Edition will net you the same Pre-order bonuses if ordering before the Septembr 28th Launch. With your Pre-order bonuses secured, you can then upgrade to the Deluxe Edition at a later time and still receive all the same goodies as it has no unique pre-order bonuses to worry about.

Personally, I’ve opted for the Deluxe Edition to be able to showcase the goodies that come with it. I may have considered the Steelbook Edition had there been a larger window for it. However, Steelbook are Steelbooks and typically very sought after, so it’s no surprise they sold out quickly.

You can purchase New World via Amazon or Steam. Or, eventually, from any other re-seller. Here is the official link to the purchase page for the game.
