Disney confirmed what everyone expected. The Bad Batch Season 2 of animated TV series will continue in 2022 with more action and new stories!
On August 5 Disney announced that next year the popular and still currently in its first season TV series on Disneyplus – The Bad Batch – was renewed for a second season.
“Fans have enthusiastically embraced the action and drama of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and we are excited to see the Star Wars animated universe continue to expand on Disney+,” said Michael Paull, president of Disneyplus and ESPNPlus. “As the dedicated streaming home for the Star Wars franchise, we can’t wait for the second season of this fan-favorite animated series.”
“The entire Lucasfilm Animation team and I would like to thank Disney + and our fans for the opportunity to continue telling the story of the Bad Batch,” added executive producer Dave Filoni quoted by starwars.com.
Here’s a quick synopsis in case you have missed The Bad Batch so far and are not aware what it is:
Star Wars: The Bad Batch follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch (first introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars) — and their young charge, Omega — as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. Star Wars: The Bad Batch is executive produced by Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Athena Portillo (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Brad Rau (Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Resistance), Jennifer Corbett (Star Wars Resistance, NCIS), and Carrie Beck (The Mandalorian, Star Wars Rebels), with Josh Rimes (Star Wars Resistance) and Alex Spotswood (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) serving as producers. Rau is also the supervising director, and Corbett serves as head writer.

The fact that the show is going into a second season is of little surprise to me. The Bat Batch is a “direct descendant” of The Clone Wars TV series.
Fans were mad and angry when Disney bought the Star Wars franchise and canceled the production of The Clone Wars show. Years later, when the company announced the return of the clones for twelve more episodes, everyone went crazy with enthusiasm.
I myself was never a big fan of The Clone Wars. The show was a great source of lore, but it was clearly aimed at a much younger audience than my then current years.
The final season, however, the last twelve episodes, that was The Clone Wars I was hoping to see from the very beginning. I loved the ending.
It was because of the Clone Wars’ ending that I was very excited and eager to see The Bad Batch.
While The Bad Batch is a good show, it lacks diversity. We are still getting new lore out of it, and that’s the good part. But the main characters are not unique in my mind and if we give it a go, we can easily point similarities between the behavior of some of them to the behavior of other characters from previous shows and stories.
The two-part finale of the first season of The Bad Batch is coming out today and next Friday – August 13. It’s strange how when you know there will be a next season, your approach and expectations of a Season Finale changes a bit. Or is it just me?
Did this announcement catch you off-guard or were you expecting that The Bad Batch Season 2 is imminent and were just waiting to hear the confirmation?
