How to pick up the Hiden quest, find the keys and unlock the Hidden Ones Bureau in Paris in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla The Siege of Paris DLC!

While exploring Francia in The Siege of Paris expansion to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you may stumble upon a secret quest called “Hidden”. It is related to The Hidden Ones (the origins of the Assassin’s Creed) and as a reward from completing it, you will receive a nice one-handed sword called Joyeuse.

How to start the “Hidden” quest in Siege of Paris

The quest is about finding three special keys in three different locations in Francia. These keys unlock the Lutetia bureau hideout of the Hidden Ones in Paris.

To pick up this quest, simply go to one of the locations of ancient Hidden Ones hideouts and pick one one of the keys. This guide will help you get everything you need in a step-by-step manner, so you can follow it from start to finish!

The keys are in Champlieu, Diodurum and Gisacum. The Hidden Ones bureau is in Paris. Once you find all three keys, you can unlock the bureau and pick up your reward(s) from inside along with some extra knowledge of The Hidden Ones.

There is no Power Level requirement. If you are too low, simply avoid or be smart about the few enemies you might encounter in the different locations. There are plenty of ways to avoid combat or make it so that you always have the upper-hand.

When you find one of the keys, no matter which one you find first, you will read the following letter (the same letter is next to each one of the three keys):

Evacuation Order

Brothers,

With the departure of the Brotherhood From Britannia following the death of Imperator Honorius, our work here in Paris is at an end. The cold wind that blows across Britannia has reached our shores as well. As Magister Vitus said, we must leave and regroup to focus our attention where it is most needed.

All Hidden Ones are ordered to vacate Paris immediately. The Bureau will be sealed, and the three door keys hidden in the ruins at Champlieu, Diorudum, Gisacum. It may be that at a future time, when present misunderstandings have been forgotten, others will have need of it again.

Vitus has extended an open welcome from the Bureau in Cologne to any who would make that journey. For those who choose to do so, I will meet you there.

How to find the key in the Diodurum Ruins

The Diodurum Ruins lie in Melunois area, west from Paris.

How to find the Diodurum Ruins in Melunois

In the middle of the ruins, you will find a wooden floor square. Shoot an arrow at it to break it and reveal the entrance leading underground. This is actually NOT an entrance, but your exit point.

Entrance - Diodurum Ruins

On the south side of the hill you will find a lake. Jump in it and swim towards north until you enter the ruins.

Entrance to the south

After a short underwater swim, you will surface on the other side. Climb up and stand in front of the door with the Hidden Ones logo on it.

Hidden Ones Logo door

Open the door and get through it. Jump down in the next water canal. Make a large C-turn going around to the other side of the wall to reach the vases with flammable oil.

Pick Up a Vase

Pick up a vase, turn around and throw the vase towards the weak stone wall on the other side. Then jump across to the other side and enter the hideout.

On the desk to your right you will see the key and a scroll with text. The key is the first key you need for this quest. It will also start up the quest for you. The letter is the same one that I have shown you in the previous segment of this guide.

In this very same room you will also find a Book of Knowledge. Click it to learn the Golden Flame Abiliity.

Now you have the Diodurum Key. Onto the next one!

How to find the Key in the Gisacum Ruins

The second key is in the Gisacum Ruins, located in the Evresin area in west Francia.

Gisacum Ruins Map

The entrance is guarded. Below is an aerial view (from my Raven) to the entrance below underground.

I recommend you to stack up on Adrenaline and have the Incendiary Powder Trap ranged ability available. It will be useful and will make your efforts easy. I will show you what to do if you don’t have these, of course.

First, open the entrance to the underground ruins by shooting the wooden square as shown on the image below.

As soon as you jump down you will see a door with the Hidden Ones logo on it. Open it.

On the image below is the whole room in front of you that lies behind the door. To the left you will find some flammable pots. You need to go through the wooden ramp that is on the other side of that metal fence in front of you, but you have to make a left, then right and then left turn around the walls and obstacles.

There are Rat Swarms, be careful. Rat Swarms are new gameplay mechanic from The Siege of Paris. They cannot be killed. If you swing your weapon or a torch, they will hide in a nearby hole for a brief moment and then come out again. Rat Swarms can kill you very quickly. Don’t stand on top of them. If they catch you, swing your weapons to scatter them.

The second Key for the Hidden Ones Bureau in Paris is on the right side of that room. It’s easy to get to it, you don’t need flammable pots, but if you want to get to the Book of Knowledge, you will need them.

Second Key

For the Book of Knowledge: You have to make sure the path is clear if you are planning to carry flammable pots to the weak stone wall at the end of the wooden ramp. If you have Incendiary Powder Track Ability and some Adrenaline, things would be easier. This book will teach you the new Plague of Rats ability.

How to find the key in the Champlieu Ruins

The third and final key for the Hidden Ones Bureau in Paris is located in the Champlieu Ruins, just east from Paris in the Amienous Area.

Champlieu Ruins Map

Near the red tent among the ruins look for the wooden floor that you can break with an arrow to reveal the hidden entrance below.

Jump down and open the door with the Hidden Ones logo on it.

On the other side there is a corridor. To your left there’s a small room blocked by a weak stone wall that you can blow up with fire, to your right is a small hole in the wall and in front of you is a wooden obstacle that you can move from this side.
The corridor

Go through the small hole on the right. Scare the Rat Swarm and go around the corner to pick up a flammable pot.

If you have Incendiary Powder Trap Ability, blow up the weak stone wall and avoid having to go for a flammable pot.

Enter the newly opened room and pick up the third key from the table.

Third Key

The Book of Knowledge is on the other side of the corridor behind the movable obstacle. Use the right corridor again to get to it.

How to get the Joyeuse short sword

The Joyeuse is the name of a one-handed short sword that is a reward for completing the Hiden quest. To get it, you will need to unlock the Hidden Ones Bureau in Paris using the three keys you have obtained already.

The Hidden Ones Bureau is located in the south-west corner of Paris.

The Hidden Ones Bureau is located in the south-west corner of Paris.

Approaching it from outside (from the west), find the gap in the big stone wall and reach the hole in the ground. It’s between four tall stone pillars. This place is called Lutetia Bureau.

When you get down, follow the green markers, or with other words – follow the corridor until you reach the door with the three locks – the entrance to the Bureau.

Next go forward through the door until you reach the large open two-story area with a giant Hidden Ones logo on the ground.

There are a few Rat Swarms both on the ground level and on the top level. If you have an Incendiary Powder Trap, you can save yourself some trouble. If not, you need to go to the other end of the big room and pick up a flammable pot. There are a few in the corner on the upper floor.

To successfully carry the pot to the ground floor, go back around following the walls clowk-wise. Careful with the Rat Swarms. You can plan ahead and scare them right before you pick up a pot.

When you reach the other side of the large room, jump on the wooden platform that is right on top of the entrance with the weak stone wall you need to blow up. The top end of the Hidden Ones logo on the ground points to that weak wall spot.

When you jump on the ground, throw the pot to blow up the wall.

Run across. There will be snakes around the final objective for the mission. Defeat the snakes and open the crate.

Inside the crate you will find the big prize this quest is all about – the one-handed short sword Joyeuse.

The Joyeuse Short Sword is a Wolf weapon. It has the following features:

  • Perk: “Tempirarily poison your Weapon after 5 successive Heavy hits.”
    Duration: 5 seconds.
  • Runes: 1 Square and 2 Round
  • Skill-Tree: Wolf

The sword is by default in a Mythical stage of its level and is almost fully upgraded (7/10). Or it was for me anyway.

Joyeuse Short Sword
Joyeuse Short Sword visual appearance

You can use that sword to change its appearance or use its appearance on another short sword thanks to the Transmog system in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

A little lore, thanks to the Wiki: Joyeuse was, in medieval legend, the sword wielded by Charlemagne as his personal weapon. The name means “joyous”. A sword identified as Joyeuse was used in French royal coronation ceremonies since the 13th century, and is now kept at the Louvre museum.

This concludes my guide on how to find, pick up and complete the “Hidden” quest in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s The Siege of Paris DLC. The guide also showed you the reward for that quest and I hope you have enjoyed it!

Check out some of the other Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. With the Hidden quest my coverage for The Siege of Paris is just beginning, there will be a lot more, so check the game category frequently for new entries and more useful guides and tutorials!

If you have not done the Hidden Ones set and quest in the original game, I highly recommend you do it right now. The armor you get out of it is fantastic in both stats and looks.
