After a recent update to Steam, New World alongside other games using Easy Anti-Cheat have had issue running or connecting to servers.
We’re here to talk about this to help spread awareness of the issue and potential workarounds.
The Issue
From what members of the community have found, the issue is linked directly to Steam’s recent update. This new version of Steam seems have changed its Security Certificate, which makes Easy Anti-Cheat see it as an unauthorized application.
Since it’s recognized as unauthorized, it will close the DLLs connected to Steam. With these being closed, the game will detect Steam as not running, and boot you out of the game or back to menu.
Potential Workarounds
So now that we know what happened, is there a way to fix it. The answer is, yeah there is. There’s a few potential workarounds that seem to have varying levels of success. Some of them also inherently have risk to them, so we’ll only be covering the options that don’t pose any security issues.
EAC Repair
This is a pretty low risk option, as it’s simply running the repair option with the EAC Setup.
- Navigate to your New World Steam Folder
- This can be done by Right-clicking New World in Steam, going to Manage > Browse Local Files
- From here, find the EasyAntiCheat folder and open it.
- Double click the EasyAntiCheat_Setup icon
- In the window that pops up, select New World from the Drop Down.
- Click Repair Service, and let it do its thing.
This has fixed the issue for some people, but other have had to take riskier options to get New World running again.
Steam File Validation
The other option is to simply Validate files via Steam. Usually this in combination with the EAC Repair above can help if the Repair alone does nothing.
To perform File Validation on Steam:
- Right-click New World in your Steam Library.
- Select Properties.
- In the Game Properties, find Validate Files
- It will ask you to confirm, do so and the validation process will complete automatically.
Once this is completed, try running New World again and seeing if the issue is resolved.
Steam’s Rollback Update
If you’re still currently on this broken version of Steam, Valve has addressed it with an update, which rollback the files and resolves the conflict.
To apply this fix, simply close Steam fully. When you re-open it, it should update to the proper version. This should fix this issue for New World as well as any other affected games.
Other Methods
There are a few other methods going around, but will not be covered here. This is because the primary ones that do seem to help, require replacing DLL files for Steam. This wouldn’t break Steam, but it can be notoriously difficult to figure if a file is modified or not.
As such, if you want to look further into this, I’d suggest looking at the forums or Reddit for additional information on these methods. Beyond that, it’s your own risk to take if you need to get your fix of New World.
Developer Response
Shortly after this article has gone live and over a day since the issue began, the Amazon Game Studios team has posted their official response to the issue. Which to no surprise, are the exact things we’ve covered above. These seem to be the easiest and most reliable ways to fix the issue, as it was not directly linked to New World itself.
This concludes our coverage for this issue. If there are any updates to the situation, we may update this post further to include other reasonable workaround or way to fix the game. We do hope the information provided helps some get back into New World.
Valve Releases Rollback Update
This issue has now gotten Valve to push a fix for the issue on their end. They’ve issued a new update to rollback and solve the conflict with EAC.
This now means simply fully closing then re-opening Steam can now fix this issue.
