Guide to help you learn everything you need to know on how to Transfer Servers in New World - requirements, what moves with you and cost!

With Update 1.03 coming to New World today, Amazon Game Studios is finally releasing the highly requested Server Transfer feature. This is a quick guide you help you through the process.

Are Server Transfers Free?

Currently, as this is compensation for Launch Week struggles, this first Server Transfer will be free. Amazon Game Studios has also stated they may do another round of free Server Transfers to help people further settle down.

Eventually, Server Transfers will be available as a regular microtransaction in the in-game MTX store. AGS has also stated they will give advanced notice when they have decided to enable transfers as a regular MTX purchase.

What Restrictions are there for Server Transfers?

The biggest and most unfortunate restriction is that transfers are limited to each Region. This means you can only transfer to another server within your region. This is unfortunate for those that started in another region to bypass queues, then hoping to transfer to play with friends.

The other smaller restriction that should be kept in mind is that if a world is considered “Full”, you will be unable to transfer to it. This will generally only apply to the larger, high population servers.

In addition to these restriction, Server Transfers cannot be done if the destination server in under maintenance. Server Transfers also cannot bypass the one character per world set rule.

What Moves with your Character?

Simply put, everything outside of the things that need to be taken care of in the preparation section. You keep everything from your currency to all of your storage in every region. You won’t lose any titles or any other character progression, even including housing decorations.

One of the things that sadly will not carry over is your friends list. So be prepared to re-add everyone that in on your list and transferring with you.

How to Prepare your Character for Server Transfer

There are a few things that need to be done prior to Server Transfer before the game will allow you to do so. These are all pretty minor things to take care with the exception of one of these requirements.

To Start, you need to log in and move your character to a Settlement or Outpost. This means waiting through any applicable queues to get in. Then you need to cancel all of your active Trading Post Listings, as these are not able to be carried over.

Then the big one, you need to leave your company. If there’s not a disband option for the Governor, this could also mean having to kick members prior to transfer. It’s also not been stated anywhere what happens to any territory you may own when closing a company. Safe to assume it’ll be opened up for purchase. This is likely to be a very rare situation to happen, but also still possible.

As a quick recap here’s what you need to do to prepare your Character for a Server Transfer:

  • Log in and move to a Settlement.
  • Cancel all your active Trade Orders, both buy and sell.
  • Leave your Company.

With all of these done, we can finally transfer our character.

Notes

The initial release of the Server Transfer feature includes one transfer token, which is single use. If transfers result in uneven distribution that causes queues the devs may issue new sets of tokens where needed.

If a server is marked as "Full", this doesn't mean that it is full all of the time, like in the first week after release (that was a precedent that will likely never happen again). The term indicates a server that during typical peak usage has a substantial queue.

Cross-region server transfers is being worked on, but we have no estimated time of release for this feature yet.

There is no technical limit to the number of characters that can transfer to a server. Here is how company transfers can happen: when the last person leaves a Company it will be treated as abandoned and the name will be available seconds later. You should not rename your Company if you intend to transfer it. That will make the old name unavailable on a new server. Full emptying the Company so it is abandoned will free the name up for re-use.

AGS promises to announce at least a full day ahead before a server is marked as "Full" and transfers are no longer available. Still, moving large groups of players to a single new server might cause it to be marked as "Full" and the end result to be the same - players getting stuck into a long queue often.

As the game development continues the AGS team is ready to launch new servers to ensure there are always non-Full options available to a new player. Server merges will also be happening when and if needed to maintain a healthy player base on each server.

The Free Server Transfer token that you may have received if you were a player at the time when they were granted, are permanently available without any time limitations. You are not pressed to use it as it will not expire.

As the game's world continue to grow with future new content, the server capacity will likely be revisited as well. AGS's goal is to always keep a healthy amount of players per server and with more and new maps being developed in the future, this means that more players would be able to explore the game's world without creating overpopulation.

Transferred characters can still turn in town project quests that are in progress.

Your faction status will be the same after transferring.

Helpful Tips for New World’s Server Transfers feature

Here’s a few tips to help improve your luck with Transfers to help avoid large queues and a few other useful things you can do.

First, if possible try to collect as many of your storage items into the territory you’re transferring in as well as you inventory. It’s very likely that the server you’re transferring to may be a bit of a blind move. Consolidating them will help you more distribute your materials between each territory appropriately instead of having to do everything after transfer. If you’re a heavy crafter, you may have to leave a lot of your supplies where they are and work on it after transfer.

Second, since the transfer screen allows you to see the queue times for each server, it may be good to wait a bit to see how transfers go. This will let you periodically check to see if a server is becoming heavily inflated. This will help you avoid those dreaded queues.

Finally, if your server has cheap materials for sale, it may be a good idea to grab them before transferring. Especially things that will often be contested like most Metals and Fiber. If the server you transfer to ends up populated, this could save you the hassle of fighting over materials after the transfer.

This concludes our quick guide on Server Transfers. Hopefully everyone’s transfers go smoothly and servers don’t get too crowded again.
