How do you regenerate HP and FP in Elden Ring

You can regenerate HP and FP by taking a drink from your Crimson and Cerulean Flasks of Tears. Crimson Flasks regenerate HP while Cerulean Flasks regenerate FP.

The number of sips you can take is finite, but they are fully and automatically replenished when you sit down at a Lost Grace, though this also respawns all non-boss enemies. The amount of time you can spend out in the wild fighting enemies without having to take a break at a Lost Grace is almost entirely governed by your flasks.

You can also replenish 1 sip of the red and blue flasks after defeating a full group of enemies when you are out in the open world, but the open world is typically less difficult than the dungeons. Defeating red and blue dung beetles also fully replenishes the type of flasks that match the color of the beetle, but those are uncommon and therefore unreliable.

You can upgrade and reallocate your flasks by spending Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears at a Lost Grace.

Tips for allocating flasks in Elden Ring

You have a set amount of flasks that you can allocate to either Crimson (HP) or Cerulean (FP) Flasks of Tears when sitting at a Lost Grace.

In order to maximize the time you can spend fighting enemies, it’s important to allocate your flasks according to how much you use them. For example, if you barely use any FP (blue bar), you probably don’t need very many Cerulean Flasks and can allocate almost all of your flasks to Crimson to get more HP (red bar).

Identifying Flask Reliance

The first step in optimizing your flask allocation is identifying which flask you’re most reliant on. This generally comes down to how important FP is to your ability to continue fighting.

For example, as an Astrologer that primarily relies on casting sorceries to deal damage to enemies, running out of FP and Cerulean Flasks basically makes you become useless in combat even if you technically still have Crimson Flasks left.

Conversely, a melee build might be able to get away with not using their skill or some crafted items and be mostly limited by the Crimson Flasks. That said, giving up your skill might make the game less fun and/or cause you to burn through Crimson Flasks at a faster rate, especially if you use a defensive skill.

Optimizing Flasks

When you find yourself frequently running out of one type of flask that forces you to return to a Lost Grace while you still have drinks remaining on the other, you’re having to return earlier than you otherwise would if you had allocated your flasks optimally.

It is typically most efficient to run out of both types of flasks at roughly the same time and this can sometimes mean allocating more of your flasks to FP regeneration than HP, especially if you have a lot of Intelligence or Faith.

For some builds, particularly ones that mostly use their FP for an offensive skill, you will have to consider how often you want to be able to use that skill as part of this process. It will cost a lot more FP if you want to use your skill against every single enemy as opposed to just the big ones. In these situations, I’d recommend giving yourself just enough Crimson Flasks to make it from one Lost Grace to the next and then putting the rest into Cerulean.

You might also need to tweak your default allocation for tough boss fights if you notice you’re running out of one flask a lot faster than the other.

What are Golden Seeds

Golden Seeds can be spent at Lost Graces to upgrade the total number of flasks available to you for allocation. The first upgrade costs only 1 Golden Seed, but additional upgrades cost 2 or more.

There’s no reason to hold onto Golden Seeds once you have enough to upgrade the number of Flasks you have. Golden Seeds can always be found at the base of budding Erdtrees, which tend to be in picturesque locations.

Almost all of your Golden Seeds will come from these baby Erdtrees, but they will also typically drop whenever you defeat a Tree Spirit.

Tree Spirits are challenging minor bosses found in several locations throughout the Lands Between. If you’re struggling to beat them, check out my guide: How to Fight Tree Spirit Bosses in Elden Ring.

All Golden seed locations in Elden Ring

Below you can find a number of locations with Golden Seeds and descriptions of how to get to them. It would be helpful if you reveal your map first, but nothing can stop you from going to the locations shown below even if you don’t see the detailed map.

There are significantly more seeds to be found than are required to fully max out the number of Flasks you can allocate. This list contains almost all of them; far more than are needed to max out your Flasks.

Eastern Limgrave

This seed is located right next to Fort Haight.

Western Limgrave

This Golden Seed is located on Stormhill. It may be the first you acquire in the game if you’re able to get past the Stormgate blockade.

Central Limgrave – Fringefolk Hero’s Grave

This Golden Seed drops from the Ulcerated Tree Beast boss you fight at the end of the Fringefolk Hero’s Grave.

Weeping Peninsula

This Golden Seed overlooks Castle Morne.

While in this region, visit Castle Morne. It is a wonderful location at the southern border of the peninsula. I highly encourage you to explore it to find a number of very valuable items.

Stormveil Castle 1

This seed is located in the courtyard before you fight Godrick the Grafted.

Stormveil Castle 2 (Tree Spirit)

This golden seed requires a little bit of platforming to reach.

Start from the Liftside Chamber Lost Grace and go out into the courtyard.

Drop down off the ledge, you will take a bit of fall damage but can survive.

Keep dropping until you reach the bottom. There will be 3 regular rats and a giant rat to take care of. Keep going forward and drop into the bone pit.

Once you drop down, a very large monster called a Tree Spirit will spawn. It’s safest behind him. Defeat him and he’ll drop a Golden Seed. There are other goodies down there that aren’t pictured. If you’re struggling with fighting the Tree Spirit, check out my guide: How to fight Tree Spirit bosses in Elden Ring.

Academy Gate Town

This Golden Seed is located in western Academy Gate Town.

Raya Lucaria East Gate

This Seed is located atop the middle of the bridge that the game refers to as part of the east gate.

Academy of Raya Lucaria

The Golden Seed in the Academy of Raya Lucaria is located at the back of the courtyard area outside the Debate Parlor after you defeat the Red Wolf of Radagon.

I strongly suggest you take the time to fully explore this Legacy Gungeon. I have a great guide to walk you through and show you all major item locations at the Academy of Raya Lucaria.

Caria Manor

There is a Golden Seed in Caria Manor, in northern Liurnia. The Seed is located near the cliff at the base of the staircase after ascending the elevator. There are several (dire?)wolves nearby.

Liurnia Ravine

This Seed is located near the entrance to the Ruin-Strewn Precipice in northern Liurnia.

Siofra River

This Golden Seed is located near the very end of the Siofra River area close to where there is an elevator into Caelid.

There are two bosses you should aim to defeat at the Siofra River. You can use the guides to Dragonkin Soldier boss and the major boss of the zone – Ancestor Spirit

Nokstella, Eternal City

This seed is located in northwestern Nokstella. It is only accessible once you defeat Starscourge Radhan and gain access to Nokron, Eternal City and can ride the coffins to different underground areas.

Lake of Rot

This seed drops off of a Putrid Tree Spirit by the rotfall near the end of the Lake of Rot. Make sure you defeat the Kindred of Rot in the vicinity so you don’t have to worry about fighting them alongside the Putrid Tree Spirit.

Sellia, Town of Sorcery

This Golden Seed overlooks Sellia. It is located at the top of the stairs near where you can fight the two sorcerer bosses.

South Caelid

This Seed is found in South Caelid on the road to Redmane Castle.

War-Dead Catacombs

Defeating the Putrid Tree Spirit at the end of the War-Dead Catacombs in eastern Caelid (northern part of Radhan’s arena) will drop a Golden Seed.

Bestial Sanctum Entrance

This Golden Seed is located near the entrance to the Bestial Sanctum in northern Caelid.

Atlus Plateau

This Golden Seed is located along the main path as you head north into the Atlus Plateau towards the Minor Erdtree. As you’re coming from the Grand Lift of Dectus, turn left at the fork near the Atlus Highway Junction Lost Grace.

Western Atlus Plateau

This Seed is located very close to the Lux Ruins and Erdree-Gazing Hill Lost Grace. If you enter the Atlus Plateau through the Ruin Strewn Precipice, this should be right near the first Lost Grace you encounter in Atlus Plateau proper.

Northern Atlus Plateau

This seed is located behind the Minor Erdtree in northern Atlus Plateau.

Dominula, Windmill Village

This Golden Seed is located south of Dominula, Windmill Village and the Highway Lookout Tower in northwest Atlus Plateau.

This Golden Seed is located on the Road of Inquiry near the entrance to Volcano Manor

Mt. Gelmir – Seethwater River

This Seed is located along the Seethwater River towards the beginning of the path at the base of Mt. Gelmir that will lead you to Primeval Sorcerer Azur.

Lyndell Outer Wall 1 (2 Seeds)

Right past where you fight the 2 Tree Sentinels inside the outer wall of Lyndell, there are 2 Golden Seeds to pick up at the same toddler Erdtree.

Lyndell Outer Wall 2 (2 Seeds)

Keep going along the main road into Lyndell, Capital City, there’s another pair of Golden Seeds at the base of a toddler Erdtree.

Lyndell Outer Wall 3

If you go directly south from the first toddler Erdtree inside the outer capital walls rather than continue on the path, there’s a camp where an Ulcerated Tree Spirit spawns that drops a Golden Seed.

Lyndell, Capital City 1

This drops off of an Ulcerated Tree Spirit in a dusty section towards the northern edge of the city.

Lyndell, Capital City 2

This seed is located in the southern area of the city pretty close to the base of the Erdtree. It is protected by a Gargoyle.

Forge of the Giants Approach

This Seed is located near the Forge of the Giants, you can see the time of day is covering most of the actual Forge.

Consecrated Snowfield

This seed is located within the Consecrated Snowfield in the land of the Haligtree. You should come across it if you follow the lights as the game recommends. If you’re having trouble seeing the lights, go to a Lost Grace to pass the time and wait until night to travel.

Ordina, Liturgical Town

This Golden Seed is located just outside of Ordina, Liturgical Town.

Mohgwyn Palace

I don’t have a useful map image for this one yet, but it’s on an island in the blood lake before you actually reach the palace. After you defeat all of the albinaurics and there’s a group of 4 walking, turn left and drop down instead of going into the blood lake area where more albinaurics are.

Farum Azula 1

This Golden Seed is located in a courtyard area where a bunch of the beast men skeletons are hanging from trees. The closest accessible Lost Grace is the Dragon Temple Lift.

Farum Azula 2

This Golden Seed is located near the end of Farum Azula. The nearest Lost Grace is Dragon Temple Rooftop.

What are Sacred Tears

Sacred Tears can be spent at Lost Graces to upgrade the regeneration provided by each sip of a flask. In contrast to Golden Seeds, every single Sacred Tear will increase the amount regenerated by your flask.

You won’t ever need to save up multiple Sacred Tears for a single improvement. Just like with Golden Seeds, there’s no reason to hold onto Sacred Tears unless you want to make the game harder; just upgrade them next time you’re at a Lost Grace.

Sacred Tears can only be found in churches, typically at the base of the big statue, but there are a few churches that don’t give one.

You can usually see churches on the map as ruins before visiting them. Even if the ruins you see turn out not to be a church, there are almost always other goodies for you to pick up. In general, if the map shows an interesting feature, there’s probably something there.

All Sacred Tears locations in Elden Ring
