Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi TV Series gets new release date

Why Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi TV Series gets new release date

Adrian by Adrian|

Obi-Wan himself, Ewan McGregor, announced a minor delay of the release date for his limited Star Wars series, but brought balance with some good news – two episodes will be available on the new launch date!

Everyone is waiting for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series with excitement, not only because we all love the sassiest Jedi Master, but because it is the opening event for Star Wars celebration! Or so we thought…

The Kenobi series is just under 2 months away, the trailer got us all super excited and everything appeared to be set and ready, but that doesn’t look to be the case.

If you have missed it, check out the Obi-Wan Trailer breakdown to discover a few secrets and hints the creators put in it. These will help you pass the time a bit more easily, hopefully.

Ewan McGregor announcing the new release date for Obi-Wan Series

Just moments ago, the official Star Wars accounts released a 42-second video with a new update. Ewan McGregor himself gives us a surprising and odd announcement:

“Hello Star Wars fans! Thank you for all your incredible support and respones to Obi-Wan Kenobi. I have some important news: Our premiere date is moving, just a couple of days, from Wednesday to Friday, May the 27th. But here’s the exciting part, the first two episodes will premiere together”

Everyone is shocked by this news, why would they shorten the duration of the series by one week just to gain 2 more days before its release?

As always, the Star Wars online community is already making theories about it. Is Disney making re-shoots of important scenes? Are they “fixing” the Grand Inquisitor’s appearance? Or maybe they ran into a technical problem during post-production? Whatever the reason is, it has to be a big one to change the date of a long-awaited series by such a small margin.

“Well, what’s the big deal? It’s only two days” You might ask. Under normal circumstances, it wouldn’t be a problem. However, this change of schedule means that the two episodes will premiere during Star Wars Celebration, Star Wars’ most important event of the year.

This year, Star Wars Celebration will take place May 26-29. With the previous premiere date (25th) it didn’t interfere with the event, fans would be able to watch the first episode just one day before Celebration begins (perfect timing), but now it’s going to happen at the same time.

I don’t expect Disney to just sit and tell the fans ” Yeah, sorry about it. Now you have to choose between watching the episodes or missing out on Celebration for a couple of hours”.

I’m certain they will host a big watch party at the event, extend the duration of each day by a couple of hours or anything necessary to ensure it goes as smooth as possible, but it still strikes me as something very odd. I really hope it’s nothing too severe and that everything turns up OK.

This puts a lot more pressure on fans that can’t be glued to their monitors all four days. As a fan and a Star Wars contributor on VULKK.com, I’m excited and a little nervous about this change of schedule. I’ll need to drink some blue milk to keep my batteries charged!

With that said, I’m very eager to watch two whole episodes in one sit. Even if that means that the series will air for only 5 weeks instead of 6. Obi-Wan is one of my favorite characters and I’m hopeful that this will be a good ending chapter for our beloved Jedi Master.

Fun fact, today is Ewan McGregor’s birthday!

Honestly, I thought big news announcements were over until Celebration, but this only proves that we can never be sure about anything until official sources talk about it. I wonder if we’re getting another unexpected announcement soon.

Star Wars Celebration 2017 kicks off with Tribute to the 40th Anniversary of the Saga

Star Wars Celebration is THE Star Wars event, where we learn about all the upcoming releases and projects in development; movies, videogames, comics, books, clothing, collectibles, accessories, etc.

Everything & everyone is going to be there. Fans from all over the world, cheering, celebrating and cosplaying the biggest franchise in the world.

Important guests like Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon), Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine), Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka Tano from Clone Wars), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau and maybe even George Lucas himself.

Special announcements about The Mandalorian Season 3, Ahsoka series, The Bad Batch season 2, The Acolyte and more are likely going to happen there.

It’s going to be incredible and I hope that you’re able to attend or watch the whole event via live stream. If not, you’ll be able to get the latest news here at VULKK.com, as we’re going to cover the entirety of the event.

What are you most excited about? Do you think we’re going to get more unexpected surprises before May 26th?
