Galactic Racer, a brand new Star Wars racing game, has been announced at the Game Awards, and it’s coming in 2026!
Who is behind Galactic Racer?
Before talking about the game itself, we should discuss the people working on it. Galactic Racer is being developed by Lucasfilm and Fuse Games. Fuse Games might be lesser known to the public compared to other studios, but some of the leaders at Fuse Games used to work at Criterion.
Criterion is responsible for some of the Burnout and Need for Speed games. As well as the Star Wars Battlefront II Starfighter Mode. They are no strangers to Star Wars or racing games, so they’re probably among the most qualified people to work on a project like this.
Teaser
Check out the teaser below, then we’ll discuss what we know about this game.
What we know so far
This game revolves around Shade, a racer who aspires to both glory and revenge. His story will be revealed as we progress through the campaign. The goal is to eventually become an elite racing pilot and defeat every other racer.

However, this is more than just winning races. Shade must be better than other racers inside the track, but also form alliances outside of it, as the other characters have different motivations (and methods) to win. Especially Kestar, a ruthless rival with power-hungry plans.

To win, you’ll need more than just being fast. Learning creative routes, getting to know the different locations, and using the proper vehicle are some of the key things you’ll need.

Players will be able to choose from different vehicle classes, all with different handling and technical capabilities. Additionally, you’ll be able to unlock new abilities, upgrades, and customize your build so it fits your playstyle.

The trailer shows Jakku and Ando Prime as two of the planets we’ll visit, but there are more locations that shall be revealed in future updates.
Sebulba makes a short appearance at the end of the trailer. Hopefully, he’ll be involved in the game in a more active way rather than just showing up a few times to build hype.

The game will have a single-player campaign and a competitive multiplayer mode for those who want to put their skills to the test against other skilled racers.
Galactic Racer will be available on Xbox, PS5, and PC. It’s scheduled for 2026, but an official release date has not yet been revealed.
