A quick look into Star Wars Shadow of the Sith

Star Wars: Shadow of the Sith takes place twenty years after the Battle of Endor. The book releases on June 28th, 2022 in paper and audio formats!

We’re already in June and Star Wars announcements are far from slowing down. Star Wars Insider, the official Star Wars magazine revealed in its most recent issue (#211) the release date for a brand new book; Star Wars: Shadow of the Sith.

As a quick reminder, Star Wars Insider includes interviews with both actors and production staff, fan stories, cosplay, cool upcoming products, trivia, fun facts, small stories, and many more.

The prequel trilogy opened many questions and rarely answered any of them. In The Force Awakens, we learned that Luke Skywalker was looking for something at one point in time. Honestly, I think very few people gave it any importance but it wasn’t until The Rise of Skywalker that we discovered the truth.

With Lando’s help, Luke was looking for a Sith Wayfinder – an ancient tool created to safely navigate through the unknown regions of space and reach a destination. In this case, the Dark Side world of Exegol.

Star Wars: Shadow of the Sith takes place twenty years after the Battle of Endor. Despite this new era of peace, the remnants of the Empire are still out there in unknown corners of the galaxy.

Luke Skywalker is experiencing visions that haunt him day and night. A dark side force is growing on a distant planet called Exegol. His suspicions are confirmed when his old friend, Lando Calrissian reports to him with information about a new Sith threat.

Lando’s daughter was kidnapped and all clues lead to dead ends until Lando stumbles across Ochi of Bestoon, an assassin whose mission is to kidnap a young Rey. Yes, this shadowy character is the one who kills Rey’s parents in The Rise of Skywalker.

Ochi of Bestoon

Ochi of Bestoon might not look like much, but he’s a character with a very intriguing background. He served Darth Sidious, attempted to kill Darth Vader, then became his personal assassin, and ultimately betrayed Vader by revealing that he’s been on Crimson Dawn’s side the whole time.

Crimson Dawn is a criminal syndicate that, unlike many others, openly defies the Galactic Empire. Qi’ra, Crimson Dawn’s leader, was romantically involved with Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

If you want to learn more about Ochi of Bestoon and Crimson Dawn you can read the Darth Vader (2020) and Crimson Reign comics.

Time skips in Star Wars are as old as the original trilogy. There’s a considerable amount of time between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

The rise of the New Republic, Luke’s failed Jedi Order, and the creation of the First Order are just a few of the moments that happen in the two decades after the defeat of the Galactic Empire.

Rey encountered Lando in Pasaana, the same planet where he and Luke followed Ochi, as we already know. They found his ship but not him. I wonder if Lando stayed there since the events of this book happened or if something else made him return.

There are a lot of questions that Disney still has to answer. To say that many people disliked the sequels would be an understatement, however, I still think that filling the blanks is necessary to finally close the chapter of the Skywalker saga. I hope that Shadow of the Sith delivers some good answers to these inquiries.

Star Wars: Shadow of the Sith by Adam Christopher is published by Del Rey, and will be available on June 28th, 2022.

Adam Christopher is an author of Science Fiction & Fantasy, Mystery, and Thriller. His debut novel “Empire State” earned him the SciFiNow’s Book of the Year and a Financial Times Book of the Year. He has also worked on tie-in novels for the television show Elementary and the Dishonored game franchise. He contributed to Star Wars: From A Certain Point Of View.

Are you interested in this book or are you done with this story? Personally, I really enjoyed getting to know Ochi of Bestoon in the Darth Vader comics so I might give it a read when it comes out.
