Assassin’s Creed Valhalla update 1.6.0 releases on August 2nd 2022. It brings a new free game mode called “The Forgotten Saga”. The Sigrblot festival returns as well!

Today’s patch for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is labeled as Title Update 1.6.0. Its size is very stressful on a first look compared to the seemingly short patch notes. It varies from 12 to 24 GB depending on your platform of choice:

  • Xbox Series X|S: 26 GB
  • Xbox One: 19.6 GB
  • PlayStation5: 12.5 GB
  • PlayStation4: 17.5 GB
  • PC: 23.7 GB

The main focus of this update is the free new game mode called “The Forgotten Saga”. Ubisoft adds this free for all players who own the base game.

What is The Forgotten Saga

The Forgotten Saga is a new game mode for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Ubisoft has created a new rogue-lite experience that will be available as soon as you reach Asgard.

Plunge into the depths of Niflheim and face overwhelming odds in this exciting, rogue-lite inspired, free game-mode for Assassin’s Creed® Valhalla. Accessible for all players once they have reached Asgard in the main game. This new mode provides a formidable challenge for players with a unique quest to defy fate.”

The new free DLC can be unlocked and played as soon as your character reaches Asgard through the main storyline of the game.

You have to construct the newly available building called “Everold’s Hut” in your Settlement Ravensthorpe. Through it you will gain access to the Forgotten Saga game mode.

I have a step-by-step guide to show you how to start The Forgotten Saga in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and get to Niflheim, the dream world.

The Forgotten Saga DLC - Everold's Hutt in Ravensthorpe

There are no power level requirements to access this content, and the equipment and perks you have unlocked throughout England do not transfer over.

Here’s a bit of lore about this game mode if you are curious to learn more about this new story adventure before you jump in:

“Baldr, the Norse god of light and purity, is lost to Niflheim. Odin, mad with grief, refuses to accept that his son lies in the misty realm of the dead. Defying fate, the All-Father plunges into the depths of Niflheim to push through the hostile lands, but Niflheim is a realm of the dead, and the living are not welcome.

The lands of Niflheim are harsh and unforgiving. You will journey through various regions such as the ice-cold Kaldstad and the poisonous swamps of Nidheim, all the way to Hel’s Castle. Moving through these lands is no easy feat as Hel’s minions patrol the area, ready to attack any intruder on site. Before you can push into the next zone, you must contend with a champion of the goddess. Each zone has its unique adversary that you can only battle in the Forgotten Saga expansion.

This rogue-lite experience will test your wits and skills against difficult enemy encounters and a hostile world.

AC Valhalla The Forgotten Saga

Each time you are defeated means you will start from the beginning. With each death, you will return to the start with opportunities to upgrade Odin and grow in strength for your next attempt with further insights on how to overcome the challenges ahead.

As you explore Niflheim, you will earn special new perks, gear and abilities to help you overcome the challenges. Optional quests will also be available alongside the main path, should you decide to take a stroll through this hostile land and help some NPCs.

AC Valhalla Niflheim

You will not carry over items from your regular game with you when you start the Forgotten Sage game mode. Instead, upon entering Niflheim, you will be forced to face the threats of Hel’s domain with an entirely randomized loadout.

As you progress through multiple runs, your loadout will be impacted by your own strategic choices. You will be able to improve your chances of survival by defeating enemies, earning new weapons, outfits, and runes through world events, or by spending hard-earned coins at the merchant’s store.

While you can use several runes to gain power, only one weapon can be equipped to a slot at any given time. When you are defeated, you will lose the gear you were wearing and be sent back to the start of the journey.

Every time you get defeated, you will be given Ability Points to upgrade a skill tree. To be clear, this is a unique and brand-new skill tree, not the skill tree you have as Eivor.

AC Valhalla Odin

As you can expect, you will be able to earn a new currency in Niflheim, which will allow you to get new decorative items such as mount and bird skins, tattoos and other items.

After you manage to complete the whole Forgotten Sage game mode, you will be awarded permanently with a new gear set that you can wear in the base game as well.

Sigrblot festival returns

The Sigrblot festival returns to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla for a limited time in the middle of the Summer in August 2022. The event will run from August 4th until August 25th.

Sigrblot is a Norse holiday, which marks the beginning of the Summer. It is also a time for celebrating and planning as well as making sacrifices to Odin for blessings on the summer travels and raids that the vikings go to.

AC Valhalla Sigrblot Festivel Event Guide - Intro mission

You can participate in Sigrblot activities and mini-games if you own the base game of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. You don’t need any of the expansions.

As soon as you have reached England and have completed one of the first two story arcs – Grantebridgescire or Ledecestrescire, and have your settlement up to level 2 or higher, you can head to the festival grounds in Ravensthorpe.

I have a full guide to the Sigrblot festival, which I will update with the new rewards (if there are any) for this season of the event.
