A brand new trailer for the Andor series has been released. This is the second and final trailer before the series premiere on September 21, 2022.
The original release date for Andor was August 31 but they pushed it back three weeks. To “compensate” for this delay, the first three episodes will air together.
The two-minute trailer showcases some of the series’ locations and new characters. It appropriately sets the mood for what we can expect about this long-awaited series without giving “too much” information. Here are my favorite moments in it.
The first thing we see is a planet full of forests and life. The people there appear to live in small huts, they’re also using very rudimentary tools so it’s possible that it’s a planet that isn’t vastly populated. Then, an imperial Star Destroyer arrives. A place so full of natural resources is naturally attractive to a Galactic Empire that consumes it all.
In the next shot, a young boy contemplates what looks like a mining operation. What was once a beautiful landscape has become a dead wasteland.
I think it’s safe to assume that the boy is Cassian Andor and the planet is Fest, his homeworld.
“To steal from the Empire you just walk in like you belong. They’re so proud of themselves. They’re so fat and satisfied. They can’t imagine that someone like me would ever get inside their house.”
The Empire has little to zero resistance, perhaps a few groups that oppose them but nothing that they really worry about. They go and ravage every planet without consequences, who’d dare to challenge such force?
Arrogance is very common in Imperial ranks, from regular officers to Palpatine himself. Andor seems to be very aware of this and he’ll weaponize it to create chaos on the enemy lines.
Luthen Rael, played by Stellan Skarsgård is my personal highlight of the trailer. Apparently, he’s the one who recruited Cassian into the Rebellion.
He also seeks Saw Gerrera, the extremist leader that is willing to do anything for the “greater good”. From what’s been hinted at in interviews, Andor is far from being a role model, if Luthen is recruiting people as shady as them then he must be really desperate.
A surprising thing to me is that he’s not just one random guy that opposes the Empire. It’s clear that he’s someone with a high social, economical, and political status.
Belonging to the imperial aristocracy serves as the perfect facade while he secretly gathers this group of people that will help him undermine the Empire’s efforts, his role might be just as crucial as Mon Mothma’s.
Dedra Meero is another new character in the Andor series. An officer of the Imperial Security Bureau that is accompanied by Death Troopers is no small deal.
We don’t know anything about her but she already strikes me as a cold, ruthless officer. I’m excited to see her role in this story.
Politics have always been important in Star Wars storytelling. The conflict between the Galactic Republic and the CIS was fought on the battlefield but also in the Senate.
Senators like Bail Organa, Mon Mothma, and Padmé Amidala knew how important diplomacy can be in times of war.
For years we’ve been kept in the dark about how the Imperial Senate works, but hopefully, this answers some of our questions.
Mon Mothma might not be a warrior but she needs to be a brilliant strategist if she hopes to achieve something meaningful, after all, she’s opposing Palpatine’s interests and hundreds of senators that serve him as puppets.
In the teaser trailer, we saw an installation where prisoners are forced to work on something. Now we know that Andor is going to infiltrate said installation and sabotage it.
This is probably one of many attacks that Andor will make against Imperial facilities, after creating such havoc there is no turning back. The Empire will hunt him tirelessly.
From the moment we met Cassian in Rogue One, it was very obvious that this war means everything to him. Hate and grudge toward the Empire have fueled him since he was a kid.
He said that terrible things were done in the name of the Rebellion. I really want to see some of this darker side of him, feeling truly disturbed by the actions of the “good guys” is a concept that isn’t really present in Star Wars and this is the perfect opportunity to experience it.
I’m super excited for Andor, getting something that isn’t about bounty hunters or Jedi feels like fresh air.
Having Tony Gilroy (Rogue One co-writer) as one of the showrunners gives me a little sense of tranquility. With twelve episodes in both seasons, there’s much time to explore many storylines and see how the characters (especially Andor) develop.
If you want to learn more, here is everything we know so far about the Andor series.
What are your expectations for this show? Are you excited or skeptical about it?
