Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, the new action/RPG game from Arcanaut Studios has been revealed at the Game Awards 2025!

Star Wars: Fate of The Old Republic is being developed by Lucasfilm and Arcanaut Studios. Arcanaut Studios is a Canadian company founded in July 2025.

Since the studio has existed for six months, the game is obviously in very early development. It’s going to be a while before we hear more about it.

Casey Hudson is directing the game. For those who might not be familiar with the name, Hudson was the director of the first Knights of the Old Republic, the Mass Effect saga. Years after leaving Bioware, he returned to the studio as general manager during Anthem’s development.

Teaser

Check out the teaser below, then, we’ll take a closer look at each detail in it. Don’t worry about pausing it to get a closer look, I took a bunch of pictures to analyze and inspect.

Teaser Trailer Breakdown

Despite the teaser being less than two minutes long, we already got a few things to break down. The first one is the characters involved. Aside from the girl whom I assume to be a Jedi, we have a droid and a Quarren that is carrying a heavy blaster.

Every Old Republic game allows you to bring companions on missions, so my guess is that this will be no different.

The ship that’s ahead of them is the mighty Leviathan, an Interdictor-class cruiser commanded by Saul Karath. Karath served Darth Revan and later, Darth Malak during the events of the first Knights of the Old Republic game.

Seeing this iconic ship in the teaser naturally leads to the question: Where is this? I believe that this is Rakata Prime. My reasoning is that the last time we saw the Leviathan was during the Battle of Rakata Prime.

Also, in both KOTOR and this teaser, you can see a moon that is very close to the planet. With no other nearby planets, at least according to the official galaxy map, I consider my guess to be accurate.

Rakata Prime is a beautiful planet full of life, but a conflict of such magnitude could easily devastate the planet. A good example of this is Endor in Episode IX. So even if it looks nothing like we remember, this could still be the same planet.

In the last shot, we see the Jedi turning her lightsaber on immediately after an unknown creature appears. It looks like it has big tentacles and is twice the size of the woman. It’s impossible to know what that is without more context, but maybe something creepy and scary like a Dianoga.

When the team is exising the ship after the landing, we can see a creature that is probably a Gizka. A group of Gizkas made the Ebon Hawk their home in the first KOTOR.

While this “lacks importance” compared to the other things happening in this trailer, it’s nice to see that they added a fun easter egg for all of us who played the first game over twenty years ago. This also supports my theory of this planet being Rakata Prime, as Gizkas also lived there.
