The first and arguably most important reveal from D23’s Lucasfilm panel is the release date and first trailer for Ahsoka Season 2. Ahsoka Season 2 releases January 20, 2027.
Watch the Trailer
If you haven’t seen it yet, watch the trailer and let’s break down and discuss everything new and exciting in it.
Many fast shots make it very hard to distinguish what’s going on, but it still gives us enough information about some of the events that are going to happen in the show’s second season.
Dathomir
I love the fact that we’re going to Dathomir. For the first time ever, we’ll see the Nightsisters’ homeworld in live-action. It’s not just the spooky nature of Dathomir, but seeing Nightsister magic and maybe other surprises that are yet to be revealed.

Clone Wars Flashbacks
We’ll also have more flashbacks to the Clone Wars era where both Anakin and Ahsoka encounter different obstacles. In case you haven’t watched the trailer, this means that both Hayden Christensen and Ariana Greenblatt are returning to the show.
One of the highlights is definitely this guy wielding a strange double-bladed lightsaber. His tattoos look very similar to those received by Nightbrothers, but as far as I know, Nightbrothers are only Zabraks. This guy doesn’t look remotely close to one, but there’s always a possibility of a few exceptions.

In this season, Anakin is going to be a guide for Ahsoka, and not just a memory or unique encounter. I imagine it’s going to be something similar to Obi-Wan’s role in Episodes V and VI.
Thrawn is back!
After such a long wait, Grand Admiral Thrawn is finally back. With him leading the Imperial Remnants and the support of the Nightsisters, it’s going to be incredibly hard for the New Republic to deal with this new enemy.

Despite their small numbers, Nightsisters were powerful enough for Palpatine to consider them a threat. Thus, he sent Grievous to kill them. With no Sith or Jedi Order to match their power, I can’t think of better allies for the Grand Admiral.

In my opinion, Thrawn is one of the most interesting, smartest, and unpredictable villains in the entire Star Wars Franchise. The only three I consider to be in the same league are Sith Emperor Vitiate, Palpatine, and Marchion Ro. His return has been awaited for many years now, and I really hope we don’t get disappointed.
What is Baylan Skoll up to
Then there’s Baylan Skoll, the former Jedi who is looking for a power so massive it can put an end to wars. Everything indicates that this is directly related to the Ones (also known as the Mortis gods).
If Filoni takes us in the direction many of us are thinking, there’s a real chance of Abeloth becoming canon. Imagine how cool that would be?

Is Ahsoka a Jedi or not?
Last but not least is Ahsoka’s most important question: Is she a Jedi or not? Since she left the Jedi Order, Ahsoka has been constantly in a gray area. Sometimes she acts like one, while at others she openly renounces the Jedi teachings.

This uncertainty about her identity was one of the most important themes in the first season. She made some progress, but this trailer shows that we’ll continue to see more of Ahsoka’s internal conflict until she is forced to make a final choice.

This story is included in our Star Wars Weekly News for the week of August 8 – 14, 2026.
