Cyberpunk 2077’s Patch 1.6 brought a ton of new quality of life features and some new content. The update’s main focus seemed to be to promote the Cyberpunk: Netflixes’ Edgerunners TV Series.

What is the Wardrobe in Cyberpunk 2077

One of the biggest new features introduced in 1.6, and one of the most requested by the community, is the ability to change V’s outfit without this affecting your stats and performance in combat.

This system is known as “transmog” and pretty much every big title these days has a system of this kind. It was about time Cyberpunk 2077 to get one of its own. Since Patch 1.5 you can change V’s Appearance. After Patch 1.6 you can also change your character’s Outfit (clothing and armor).

The Wardrobe feature in Cyberpunk 2077 allows you to change the visual clothing appearance of your character while you play the game without that affecting your stats and performance in combat.

How to access V’s Wardrobe in Cyberpunk 2077

To change V’s appearance in Cyberpunk 2077 you need to have your game updated to Patch 1.6 or higher. This is the first and most important requirement.

After you have updated your game, you can stop by any of V’s apartments in Night City to access the Wardrobe. It doesn’t matter which apartment. You can access this feature even in safe houses, such as Judy’s apartment, for example.

As of Update 2.0 you can access the Wardrobe at every vendor in the game as well.

The Wardrobe is marked with this graphical symbol:

The image above shows the wardrobe in the Northside Apartment. No matter which apartment you are in, always look for an object that looks like a real wardrobe with hanging clothes.

Fun fact: The clothes hanging in the wardrobe do not match your predefined outfits. But, we’ll talk about the outfits slots in a moment.

Below is an image of V’s wardrobe in the apartment that you get first by playing the main story of the game. It’s located inside Megabuilding H10. When you approach the wardrobe, you will get this prompt to open it:

After you make a few unique outfit designs for yourself, you will be able to swap between them at any point by just opening the Inventory screen and clicking on the Outfit button at the bottom right.

You cannot edit your saved outfits nor make new ones, but you can swap them on the run, which is a good decision by the devs.

After you access your Wardrobe, you will see this screen:

Well, the screen will be a little different. You will not have any outfits saved and your character will be naked.

On the left, you have empty slots for different outfits. You can save a number of unique combinations of items you wear. The slots will look different when you have a saved outfit in them and when a specific slot is your currently active outfit.

On the right you have the clothing slots, which in your case will be all empty. Click on a clothing slot to view the available clothing on the right.

How to see available clothing options for each slot

You can choose from all clothing that you have in your inventory as well as in your stash.

All Outfit Slots are not locked. They are free from the beginning and you can use them freely.

At the bottom right of the Wardrobe screen you you may see up to two large buttons, depending on what you have selected in the wardrobe. You can either “TAKE OFF” an outfit or “EQUIP” it.

Each time you put an item in an empty clothing slot, the outfit slot is automatically saved and updated.

Why should you change V’s outfit in Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is a First-Person RPG. It may be confusing to some of you why would CD Projekt Red make such a hype out of the wardrobe transmog system in the game.

You rarely see V’s appearance in the game. One of the best ways to make good use of your outfits is to drive the vehicles in Cyberpunk 2077 from a third perspective.

This mode was probably a leftover from the old design of the game before the devs decided to make it a complete first-person experience.

Another possibility to enjoy your personal style is when you stare at a mirror or a reflective glass, of course.

If you are a fan of the TV Series Cyberpunk Edgerunners, you can use the wardrobe feature to turn V into a David Martinez and play with his appearance. I also have an in-depth guide to help you get a strong and authentic build together.

What is new with the Wardrobe in Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0

Update 2.0 redesigned a lot of major systems in the game. The wardrobe was only slightly touched up and the result is that you can now access this feature from every vendor in the game.

The Wardrobe has a little less meaning in 2.0 as CD Projekt RED removed nearly all stats from most of the clothing pieces. The ones that they left are only marginal increases that you can easily neglect, unless you are a perfectionist. Only the higher tiers of clothes have these minor stats boosts.

Clothing items no longer have armor ratings either. The majority of your stats now come from your equipped cyberware, the weapons you use, and Skill Perks you have chosen.
