Tales of the Jedi is an animated series that will explore the lives of Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano with three episodes dedicated to each character. Each chapter is going to explore different time periods and important moments that define each character.
All six episodes of Tales of the Jedi are written by Dave Filoni. Tales of the Jedi was first announced three months ago and now we know that its release date – October 26th, 2022 on DisneyPlus. Let’s analyze what we know so far and what we have just learned from the new D23 trailer.
Dooku’s downfall
Count Dooku is a mysterious figure despite appearing in Star Wars twenty years ago. We know that he was Qui-Gon Jinn’s master and that he felt discouraged after witnessing the Republic’s corruption.
But no Jedi turns to the dark side in one day, the doubt must be planted by an idea, a tragedy, or a realization, and then it’s just a matter of time until the Jedi switches sides. We’ve seen this multiple across Star Wars history; Revan, Exar Kun, Barris Offee, Anakin Skywalker, and Count Dooku to name some examples.
Of course, very few individuals are entirely evil or entirely good, and it’s possible to turn sides again. But Count Dooku’s interests aligned more with the dark side of the Force and he remained a servant of Darth Sidious until his final breath.
Tales of the Jedi is finally going to reveal Dooku’s darkest moments as a Jedi. There are three scenes that are my personal highlights of the trailer.
The first one is when Dooku and a young Qui-Gon are defending villagers from some sort type of militia (or this is my assumption), both sides prepare to engage when suddenly Dooku force chokes the leader of the militia, Qui-Gon tells him to stop but Dooky pushes him away.
The second one is another showing of over-the-top aggression. He and Mace Windu are in a forest battling a group of men and droids, it is unclear why but it’s obvious that they’re no match for two of the most prominent duelists of the Jedi Order. They defeat them without breaking a sweat and Dooku puts his lightsaber in one guy’s neck. With caution, Windu tells him to stand down.
And my favorite one is when Dooku and Yaddle engage in combat. From the look on her face before pulling her lightsaber, it is not a sparring session. She’s one of the most overlooked Jedi Masters and I’m incredibly excited to see her fight. This is probably a key moment that changes his faith forever.
“Soon enough, you will stop denying the truth of so very many things. And you will understand that I am not a traitor, but a visionary!” Count Dooku
Ahsoka’s journey
Ahsoka Tano, one of my all-time favorite characters. People had many doubts about her when she was first introduced in the Clone Wars animated show but as seasons passed she has become a fan favorite.
Ahsoka has appeared in the Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian, and The Book of Boba Fett. Now she’s getting her own show.
But that’s not how her story began. In tales of the Jedi, we’re going to explore important moments of her life. There’s a scene where we can see her encountering a wild beast, and later she’s identified as a future Jedi by one of her village elders.
We’re probably to watch a different perspective of Jedi Master Plo Koon before taking her to the Jedi Temple.
Next, we see Anakin training Ahsoka. She’s practicing her movements in a scenario where multiple shots are being fired at her from close range, this is exactly what happened in Season seven of the Clone Wars when Rex is ordered to execute Order 66.
Watching Ahsoka with Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Rex again in an animated show feels so nostalgic.
Padmé was one of the few friends that Ahsoka truly had, they weren’t united by a master-apprentice relationship. As Ahsoka grew up her bond with Padmé also became stronger, it doesn’t come close to the bond she had with Anakin, but it’s undeniable that they were close. Watching her at the funeral is going to be such a sad and emotional moment for fans of both of them.
Many people were confused when Ahsoka appeared in Star Wars Rebels wielding white lightsabers, I won’t spoil how she acquires them, but it was described in the Ahsoka novel by E.K. Johnston. It is one of the coolest moments in the book and we’re finally going to watch it on the small screen.
Correct me if I’m wrong but this is also the first time (chronologically) that an Inquisitor appears, this showdown is going to be epic!
