Secret Invasion with Nick Fury

Secret Invasion Trailer, Cast and Comics Sources

The Secret Invasion Trailer dropped this weekend at the D23 and I am still picking up my jaw from the floor! It features Nick Fury, War Machine and many more of the MCU.

We finally see the real Nick Fury come back to Earth. The opening shot looks like that of a painting but we see a door open and a small silhouette of what looked an alien but is a light issue thing. It is Nick Fury stepping out of the light like the angel he is.

The scene skips to a bar where he meets with Maria Hill, who has been trying to contact him but all the messages went straight to voicemail. Fury replied with: Yah well, this is different.

We meet War Machine / James Rhodey who inherited Tony Stark’s death after his demise in Avengers: Endgame. Nick Fury asks him about his security. “What do you mean, how much do I know about them?” Before the scene skips to Martin Freeman who reprises his role as Everett Ross for Secret Invasion.

Ross can be seen sneaking up on a lady. The lady seems to be standing in a vault holding a gun.

Then we swap another scene to where Fury provokes a fight and the people in the room shapeshift into the same looking person.

For a second I thought it was Multiple Man from the X-men but after looking closely, these are shapeshifters. And Multiple Man can only multiply and not shapeshift.

Then there are one-shots with one of them being James Rhodey with his security detail and it ends with a voiceover where Nick Fury talks to an English-speaking woman who says he is in no shape to fight.

“This is my war. Alone. I am the last person standing between them… and what they really want.”, Nick Fury says to the unknown woman.

Secret Invasion in the comics

The title “Secret Invasion” is taken from the mega-crossover from 2008. The entire Marvel Universe was infiltrated by the Skrull. The same Skrulls we saw in Captain Marvel and Spiderman and the trailer of Secret Invasion.

The Skrulls seemed a good bunch in the Captain Marvel movies and an oppressed race by the Kree but in the comics, they are anything but.

In Secret Invasion the Skrulls used their shape-shifting abilities to infiltrate every layer of society and especially the superheroes.

Eventually, they are found out by Nick Fury who leads the resistance against the Skrulls. But you can’t trust your team either if your opponents are shapeshifters, which proved to be the hardest thing.

Because who can you trust? Is he really he? Is she really she? You don’t know and the team was set up for all kinds of betrayal, loyalty, and integrity. Who stayed true to themselves to fight the good fight?

Secret Invasion was groundbreaking at the time for being one of the first crossovers that used the main story as a framework and the tie-in comics to tell the story. In the old days, the main story would be told through the main crossover comic instead of the tie-ins.

A strong casting makes a hell of a difference

The cast of Secret Invasion is top-notch. You can’t expect less from Marvel these days. So let’s see who are confirmed to be in the show.

Cast members include Kingsley Ben-Adir, rumored to be the main villain of the show. Cobie Smulders who plays Maria Hill. Martin Freeman reprises his Black Panther role of Everett Ross. Olivia Colman from The Crown and Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones.

Secret Invasion will come to a small screen near you but there are no reports of any set dates yet. Keep an eye on VULKK.com because when they announce it, we will report it!
