Deadpool 3 was announced by Ryan Reynolds via social media. The movie premiers on September 6th 2024, and features Hugh Jackman as Wolverine!

Deadpool is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Ryan Reynolds, the actor who portrays Deadpool, has announced via social media. And he’s not coming alone, he’s bringing a friend. None other than Wolverine is joining Deadpool.

And although he said he retired from playing Wolverine, Hugh Jackman is reprising his role as the Canadian with the adamantium claws and accelerated healing factor.

Ryan Reynolds announces Deadpool 3

In a teaser trailer, we watch Ryan Reynolds ponder, meditate and take a poo because he had to dig deep for the next Deadpool movie. And he came up empty.

This is logical because it is Ryan Reynolds. But then we see Hugh Jackman enter the premise and Ryan just asked: “Hey Hugh, wanna play Wolverine one more time?” and with a grumpy voice, Hugh replies with a yes.

So what we are getting is Deadpool and Wolverine. This means accelerated healing factor versus accelerated healing factor. Samurai Sword vs Adamantium Claws.

While meditating deeply, Ryan realizes that a character like Deadpool, who has millions of fans, needs to have a special entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Deadpool was part of the deal when Disney acquired Fox. And thus the way was cleared for Deadpool to enter the Marvel movie verse.

Deadpool 3 wears Uncanny X-force outfit

The gray/black Deadpool costume seems to hint at the Uncanny X-Force team where Wolverine and Deadpool are part of the black ops team of the X-men.

The series was highly successful and the team consisted of all the assassin-type mutants from the X-men. The squad featured team members such as Psylocke, Fantomex, and Deadpool. The team is led by Wolverine.

Writer Rick Remender said the following about this team: “This is a group of characters that have had their souls stained by evil forces in the past, a common thread connecting them. They’ve already made the hard compromises in the past; they’ve all taken life.

The movies stay R-Rated

After Disney bought Fox, many fans wondered if the movies would still be R-rated or become yet another Disney movie with a G-rating. Kevin Feige, head honcho of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, assured fans that Deadpool would stick to his original R-rating.

In case you are wondering what R-Rated means, here is the official definition:

Restricted:
R – Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian.
Contains some adult material. Parents are urged to learn more about the film before taking their young children with them.

For fans of the Deadpool franchise, the R-rating is incredibly important. The Deadpool movies have so many crude jokes and sex scenes and it is part of the character. The R-Rated comics, like Deadpool Max, use that as well.

Other, more mainstream comics of Deadpool, are rated G. G rating means for a general audience. Also, note that Deadpool 3 is the first R-rated movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Deadpool stays R rated, assures Kevin Feige

Deadpool’s history

Deadpool’s origins are far from what he is today. Back when Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld created Deadpool in New Mutants #98 in February 1991, Deadpool was nothing but a Freak of the week type villain.

He battled the New Mutants and later showed up in X-Force. X-Force was when the New Mutants became adults and their leader was no longer the pacifistic Professor Charles Xavier but the more militant Cable, who hailed from the future. Cable turned out to be the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey.

Slowly but surely we watched Deadpool into what he is today: An anti-hero with a mouth. Or the Merc with a Mouth.

Deadpool’s real name is Wade Wilson and he was intended to be a parody of Slade Wilson, Deathstroke from DC Comics.

Just like Slade, Wade is a mercenary and there are more similarities between the two. The masks they wear are the same but Slade’s orange while Wade’s red.

They both like to fight with samurai swords and are amazing at hand-to-hand combat but also have high proficiencies when it comes to handguns, assault weapons, and explosives.

Just like the sensational She-Hulk, Deadpool is one of the few characters that like to break the fourth wall so you often see them talk to the readers (or viewers).

I am hoping that She-Hulk and Deadpool will meet up at some point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and fight, in a comedic fashion, over whose the audience it is anyway.

Hugh Jackman is Wolverine!

The Wolverine’s origin movie introduced Deadpool into the Fox X-men universe. The movie flopped and we saw a Deadpool whose mouth was sewn shut because he kept talking.

Hugh Jackman said bye to the character in the movie Old Man Logan where Wolverine gets killed by a clone of his. And Ryan Reynolds tried everything to convince Hugh Jackman to get him to reprise the role of Wolverine.

He used social media to get Hugh back and mentioned him in interviews. Ryan begged and pleaded and even camped out in Hugh Jackman’s yard to get him to reprise the role of Wolverine.

Hugh Jackman had a cameo as Hugh Jackman in Deadpool 2. So he didn’t actually show up as Wolverine.

You can see spot Hugh Jackman eating an apple

All the begging and pleading must have paid off because Hugh Jackman is about to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2024 reprising his role as Wolverine.

The movie is slated for a September 6, 2024 release and will no doubt be another Box office smash hit.
