This guide will show you how to unlock and access the Brimstone Sands region in New World and what activities await you there when you arrive!

The Brimstone Sands is a new region added to New World with Update 1.7 on October 18th, 2022. It’s the largest so far and draws plenty of inspiration from Egyptian and Roman architecture.

How to unlock the Brimstone Sands region

Before you officially enter and start the bulk of the Main Story of the Brimstone Sands in New World, you’ll need to talk to a fellow Soul Warden NPC to begin the quest that takes you there and unlocks the region to grant you access.

When the locations or quests differ based on faction, you will find a detailed explanation of where to go and what to do for each of the three factions in New World – Covenant, Marauders, and Syndicate.

Covenant followers will need to make their way to the Great Cleave, where they can speak to Tomash Kovalenko in the Cleave’s Point Outpost, who sits near the forge.

Marauders will need to make their way over to Ebonscale Reach where they can speak to Tomash Kovalenko, who sits on the outer wall of the Ebonreach Settlement.

Syndicate will need to make their way to the Mountainhome in the Shattered Mountain region, where they can speak to Tomash Kovalenko near the Inn located there.

From here, the Quests begin to converge a bit, as you’ll gather the same ingredients for a Desert Cerate.

You need to bring 2 Fish Oil with you to craft the Cerate. Alongside the Fish Oil you have to venture to the cliffs of your respective region and collect 3 Frostcliff Berries.

For the Covenant, you’ll need to head to the cliffs just Sunder Fort and the Tempest Valley Fast Travel Shrine to collect them.

With the Ingredients gathered, craft the Desert Cerate at a Campsite or an Arcane Repository crafting station. Once Crafted, use it from your inventory to progress the quest.

After using the Cerate, this is where the quests will fully converge. Make your way to Ebonscale Reach, then North into the Brimstone Sands.

Head to the Wikala al-Waha Outpost, located to the Northeast of where you enter Brimstone Sands.

What to do in the Brimstone Sands Region

The Brimstone Sands region features new creatures, enemies, hazards and resources. Here you will also find 26 new Ancient Glyphs, which allow you to travel across the vast desert region more easily and without the use of Azoth. Last, but not least, here is the new Ennead Expedition.

Creatures and Enemies

The Brimstone Sands Region primarily features the Ancient and Angry Earth as your main foes. This makes items like Ancient or Angry Earth Coating helpful for clearing out enemies. There are some POIs that feature Corrupted as well, but the bulk of the foes are the mentioned two actions

There is new wildlife as well, including Scorpions and Armadillos that drop some new resources, including food items that build into new Tier 5 foods. These are Stat boosting foods that last for 60 minutes, a 50% duration increase over the current 40-minute T5 foods.

Hazards and Resources

One thing you’ll need to be wary of when exploring the Brimstone Sands is a new hazard, Acid. When standing near an Acid pool, you’ll take ~1% of your HP per second as damage across two damage ticks, while your Acid Resistance drops slowly. When standing in an Acid Pool, you’ll take ~6% of your Health as as damage per second, also across two ticks.

Through the use of a new “gem” made from Scorpion Chitin or a new Tincture, you can protect yourself from this new hazard. being an Affliction, Incense is also a viable option to use to mitigate this debuff.

When Acid Resistance is depleted, you’ll be afflicted with Acid Burn for 60 seconds, which deals an additional ~18% of your Health for each tick of damage while in an Acid Pool. This means you’ll take heavy damage a die extremely quick to the Acid if you stick around for too long.

There are a few new resources here as well, consisting of Sandstone and Brimstone for directly harvestable resources.

Sandstone Chunks collected from the Sandstone itself can be processed into Charged Sand. Sulphur Chunks can be processed into Sulphur. Both reagents are used in the crafting of the newly added Runeglass Gems, as well as Acid Tinctures.

Ancient Glyphs

Ancient Glyphs are the last new feature of the new region. There are 26 of these Glyphs in total, but they make traversing this vast desert efficiently and significantly quicker than running on roads.

These new lore entries enable a fast travel system in the Brimstone Sands, which allows you to jump between Bigger POIs without the use of Azoth.

Most Elite Ancient Chests in the Brimstone Sands Area are locked by one of these glyphs as well. They require a specific glyph, and will be unable to be opened without it.

Once you learn the glyphs, you be able to make use of both the travel system and open many of the Elite Chests.

The Ennead Expedition

With a new region comes a new Expedition. The Ennead has you exploring the ancient pyramid located at the heart of the Brimstone Sands.

This Expedition has traps and puzzles, as you expect from any Expedition. Unlike the vast majority of the Brimstone Sands, however, this Expedition features the Ancient as well as many Scorpion and Scarab enemies.

With that, you now know everything you may need to successfully unlock Brimstone Sands and conquer the new region of New World! Good luck out there in this vast but beautiful desert region.
