This guide will show you how to start and complete the Scavenger Hunt quests for the Enhanced Griffin Gear from the Griffin School witcher set in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt next-gen update, where to find and how to obtain all the diagrams as well as the requirements to craft the armor and weapons!

What is the Enhanced Griffin Gear and who is it for
The Enhanced Griffin Gear witcher set is for level 18 and is an upgrade to the Basic Griffin witcher gear (level 11).
It’s medium armor that increases Sign intensity, Resistance to piercing damage, resistance to bludgeoning damage, Resistance to slashing damage and Resistance to damage from monsters.
You need to craft the Basic armor and swords first as they are part of the requirements to craft the Enhanced version. More on that in the Crafting Segment later in this guide.
How to start the Scavenging Hunt quest
There are two map fragments you can purchase from the Midcopse armorer NPC. These will start for you the following Scavenger Hunt quests:
- Edwin Greloff’s First Map
- Edwin Greloff’s Second Map
After you purchase the maps, open them from your inventory., They will grant you the two parts of the Enhanced Griffin Witcher set. The two quests will be named as follows:
- Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Upgrade Diagrams – Part 1
- Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Upgrade Diagrams – Part 2
Picking up the map fragments and starting the Scavenger Hunt Quests is optional. You can go to the places I will describe in the next section of the guide and pick up the diagrams yourself. Obtaining all diagrams will complete these two quests for you anyway.
The Enhanced Griffin gear can be used at level 18. You can pick up the diagrams at a lower level if you prefer. If this is your first playthrough, I recommend going there at level 16 or higher.
Visual Overview of the Enhanced Griffin Set
The Griffin School witcher gear used to look weird and funny, making Geralt appear as if he has been eating too much lately. Thankfully, CD PROJEKT RED listened to player feedback and altered the appearance of the armor (chest piece). Below you can see what it looks like as of the next-gen update when this guide was written.
Where to find the Gear Diagrams
There are six diagrams of the Enhanced Griffin School gear. All of them are in Velen. The order in which you get the diagrams doesn’t matter. Finding all six will auto-complete the Scavenger Hunt quests related to them.
Enhanced Griffin Armor Diagram location
Swim to the small land west of Oxenfurt Harbor, to the White Eagle Fort.
You’ll notice a rock troll singing in the area. This is Trollololo and it’s friendly so don’t worry about getting attacked. The chest with the Enhanced Griffin Armor diagram is just a few steps away from the troll.
There is a secondary quest with the Troll called “The Volunteer”. It’s not related to the Enhanced Griffin set. You can start it by either talking to the Troll or picking up the notice board from Oxenfurt. You can find the red paint from the merchant in Oxenfurt, that is if you decide to help the Troll during the quest.
Enhanced Griffin Gauntlets Diagram location
Head to Frischlow, it’s an abandoned village in the far South of Velen. Be careful, there are five level 16 Wraiths in this area.
Search for the big fireplace that’s down a small hill. Use your witcher senses to find the Griffin school mark on the wall, then use Aard on the rocks and go inside.
Turn right and look for the big chest, which contains the Enhanced Griffin Gauntlets diagram. Claiming the diagram will spawn a level 18 Noonwraith outside of the small cave, get ready to fight. Put Specter Oil on your sword to defeat them quicker.
Enhanced Griffin Trousers Diagram location
Simply go to the Burned Ruins that are East of Crow’s Perch.
Look for the big pile of burned wood and come as close as possible to it. The chest with the Enhanced Griffin Trousers diagram is under the pile there.
Enhanced Griffin Boots Diagram location
Fast travel to the Inn at the Crossroads. Call roach and ride North.
You’ll find some ruins. This (image below) will be your perspective when you arrive. Go to the marked area. The chest with the Enhanced Griffin Boots diagram is there.
Enhanced Griffin Steel Sword Diagram location
Go to the West of Midcopse and find the bandit camp near the shores of that small peninsula. There are multiple level 7 enemies.
Once you’ve defeated the bandits, search for the structure that’s closest to the water. The chest with the Enhanced Griffin Steel Sword diagram is right where the marker is on the image below.
Enhanced Griffin Silver Sword Diagram location
There’s a cave located Southeast of The Orphans of Crookback Bog.
Geralt mentions that it is a Ghoul’s nest, but there are no enemies inside. Go to the end of the cave, the chest containing the Enhanced Griffin Silver Sword Diagram is next to one of the bodies.
How to Craft the Armor and Weapons
This is the second Tier of the Griffin School Gear, you don’t need any rare or special things to craft it. Visit any Journeyman Blacksmith to craft the swords and a Journeyman Armorer to get the armor set.
Crafting Materials Requirements
There are no unique or special super-rare crafting ingredients required for this set. You have to remember to place the Basic Griffin School swords and armor pieces on you or in your inventory when you visit the Armorer and Blacksmith to craft the upgrades. You lose the basic versions of the items as they get Enhanced.
Here is a short list of some of the more interesting crafting materials you may not have on you and info on how to obtain them:
Dark Iron Ore
Can be purchased from Armorers and other craftsmen and merchants. You can also craft it yourself from Dark Steel Ingots.
Meteorite Silver Place
Can be purchased from Armorers and other merchants. You can also craft it yourself from Meteorite Silver Ingots or Dismantle certain items to get it.
Meteorite Silver Ingot
Can be purchased from Armorers and other merchants. You can also craft it from Meteorite Ingot and Silver Ingot or Dismantle certain items to get it.
Dark Steel Ingot
Can be purchased from Armorers and other merchants. Can also craft it from Steel Ingot and Dark Iron Ingot/Dark Iron Ore or Dismantle items to get it.
Where to find an Armorer and Blacksmith
It doesn’t matter which NPCs you visit to craft the items, but if you are not sure, I will mention two easily accessible and already available to you from your previous journeys on The Continent.
The Journeyman Armorer’s shop in Novigrad is at the western side of Hierarch Square. The Journeyman Blacksmith in Novigrad can make both swords for you. He is on the northern side of the open market area. This is just west and south of Hierarch Square.
Bonus tip: If you want to be ready for later, you can complete the secondary quests to unlock the Master Armorer Yoana at Crow’s Perch and Master Blacksmith Hattori in Novigrad. Linked above are the walkthrough guides on how to unlock both of them.
Enhanced Griffin Gear Set Stats
The Enhanced Edition of the Griffin witcher gear is an improvement in any aspect compared to the previous tier.
How to get the Legendary Version of the Enhanced Griffin set
The Legendary Enhanced Griffin School Gear witcher gear is available in New Game Plus (NG+) in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. The Scavenger Quest and all diagrams are located in the exact same places as in the normal game.
In NG+ this set is called Legendary Enhanced Griffin. The word “legendary” is added to acknowledge that you are acquiring the NG+ version of the set. It has the same type of stats but offers higher values across the board. It also requires the same types of crafting materials.

- (Optional) Visit the Armorer NPC in MIdcopse, Velen. Purchase from him the "Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Upgrade Diagrams - Part 1" and "Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Upgrade Diagrams - Part 2" map fragments to start the Scavenger Hunt quests for the Enhanced Tier of the gear set.
- Swim to the small land west of Oxenfurt Harbor, to the White Eagle Fort and get the Enhanced Griffin Armor Diagram.
- Pick up the Enhanced Griffin Gauntlets diagram from a chest hidden in a cave near Frischlow in south Velen.
- Visit the Burned Ruins east of Crow's Perch to get the Enhanced Griffin Trousers Diagram.
- Get the Enhanced Griffin Boots Diagram from the ruins north of the Inn at the Crossroads in Velen.
- Head west of Midcopse, to the small peninsula, to pick up the Enhanced Griffin Steel Sword Diagram.
- Enter the cave southeast of The Orphans of Crookback bog signpost. The Enhanced Griffin Silver Sword Diagram is inside.
- Visit the Armorer's shop at the western end of Hierarch's Square in Novigrad to craft the armor pieces.
- Visit the Blacksmith at the north side of the open market in Novigrad to craft the swords.
