What is the Superior Griffin Gear and who is it for
The Superior Griffin witcher set is for level 26 and is an upgrade to the Enhanced Griffin Gear (level 18), an upgrade to the basic Griffin gear (level 11).
It’s a medium armor set that increases Sign intensity, Resistance to piercing damage, resistance to bludgeoning damage, Resistance to slashing damage, and Resistance to damage from monsters.
You need to craft the Basic and Enhanced armor and swords first as they are part of the requirements to craft the Superior version. More on that in the Crafting Segment later in this guide.
How to start the Scavenging Hunt quest
You can purchase the map fragment from the Armorer at the western end of Hierarch Square in Novigrad, just next to the bank. This will start the Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Upgrade Diagrams – Part 3.
The Superior Griffin set requires level 26 to wear. You can start this quest earlier, there are few enemies at the diagram’s locations so you can get every diagram really quickly. You could obtain them at a lower level as well, but you will not be able to wear the gear.

The Griffin School witcher gear used to look weird and funny, making Geralt appear as if he has been eating too much lately. Thankfully, CD PROJEKT RED listened to player feedback and altered the appearance of the armor (chest piece).

Where to find the Diagrams
There are six diagrams of the Superior Griffin School Gear. They’re scattered around the Skellige Islands. The order in which you get the diagrams doesn’t matter. Finding all six will auto-complete the Scavenger Hunt quests related to them.
Superior Griffin Armor, Gauntlets, Trousers, and Boots diagram location
All of these diagrams are located inside a single chest. Go to the far Northeast in Ard Skellig. It’s right at the shore so you can’t miss the place.
There’s a camp with three level 24 bandits, defeat them before continuing. Reminder: apply Hanged Man’s Venom oil to your steel sword.
Once the area is clear, walk past the bonfire and you’ll see a big chest. It contains the Superior Griffin Armor, Gauntlets, Trousers, and Boots diagrams.
Superior Griffin Steel Sword diagram location
The Superior Griffin Steel Sword diagram is on An Skellig, this island is Northeast of Ard Skellig. This is probably the easiest one to get, simply go West of Yngvar’s Fang.
Follow the road until you can’t continue. Go behind the big rock that’s close to the cliff, loot the chest to acquire the Superior Griffin Steel Sword diagram.
Superior Griffin Silver Sword diagram location
This one is found in the far South of Ard Skellig. If you haven’t unlocked the fast travel point you can head to the Ruined Inn, grab a boat and save yourself some minutes.
You’re going to enter this cave.
There are multiple paths inside the cave, make sure to always stick to the right wall. By doing so you’ll get to the chest that contains the Superior Griffin Silver Sword diagram without any problem!
How to craft the Armor and Weapons
This is the third Tier of the Griffin School Gear, you need a few rare and/or special things to craft it. Visit any Journeyman Blacksmith to craft the swords and a Journeyman Armorer to get the armor set.
The Superior Griffin is a high-level gear set. This means that to craft all of the items, you will need crafting materials as well as the previous versions of each item – the Enhanced Griffin gear.
Crafting Materials Requirements
Here is a list of some of the more interesting crafting materials you may not have on you and info on how to obtain them as easily and as cheaply:
Meteorite Silver Ingot
Can be purchased from Armorers and other merchants. You can also craft it from Meteorite Ingot and Silver Ingot or Dismantle certain items to get it.
Dimeritium Plate
Can be looted, crafted from Dimeritium Ingots, or purchased directly from a merchant (most often found in armorer and blacksmith shops).
Cured Draconid Leather
Can be purchased from merchants. (it’s a bit expensive but easy to find). Can also dismantle Heavy Armor or Monster Carapace to get it.
Meteorite Silver Plate
Can be purchased from Armorers and other craftsmen and merchants. You can also craft it yourself from Meteorite Silver Ingots.
Dark Steel Ingot
Can be looted, purchased, or crafted from Dark Iron Ore/Dark Iron Ingot and Steel Ingot. You can dismantle some gear pieces.
Dimeritium Ingot
Can be looted, purchased, or crafted from Dimeritium Ore and Glowing Glowing Ore Ingot. You can dismantle some gear pieces.
The rest of the items you can get by purchasing from alchemists, merchants or armorers and blacksmiths. You can also get them by dismantling items at an armorer or blacksmith.
Where to find an Armorer and Blacksmith
It doesn’t matter which NPCs you visit to craft the items, but if you are not sure, I will mention two easily accessible and already available to you from your previous journeys on The Continent.
The Journeyman Armorer’s shop in Novigrad is on the western side of Hierarch Square. The Journeyman Blacksmith in Novigrad can make both swords for you. He is on the northern side of the open market area. This is just west and south of Hierarch Square.
Complete the secondary quests to unlock the Master Armorer Yoana at Crow’s Perch and Master Blacksmith Hattori in Novigrad. Linked here are the walkthrough guides on how to unlock both of them.
It costs you less to craft your gear at these locations below, because the smiths are thankful for your aid in opening their shops, so you get something like a discount. They are also rich merchants and will be able to buy more junk that you loot while you venture into the wild.
Superior Griffin Gear Set Stats
The Superior Edition of the Griffin witcher gear is an improvement in any aspect compared to the previous tier. You get additional rune slots as well.
How to get the Legendary Version of the Superior Griffin Gear
The Legendary Griffin School witcher gear set is available in New Game Plus (NG+) in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. The Scavenging Quest and all diagrams are located in the exact same places as in the normal game.

Instructions
- Visit the Armorer at Hierarch Square in Novigrad and purchase the map fragment to unlock the "Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Upgrade Diagrams – Part 3" quest.
- The entire armor set - Armor, Gauntlets, Trousers and Boots diagrams - are in a chest located in the far Northeast in Ard Skellig. It's near the bandits' campfire at the shore.
- Go to An Skellig, northeast of the main island Ard Skellig. The Superior Griffin Steel Sword diagram is west of Yngvar's Fang.
- Go to the southernmost end of Ard Skellig. Enter the cave and find the Superior Griffin Silver Sword diagram.
- If you have unlocked the Master Armorer and Master Blacksmith, visit them to craft your new gear upgrades. If not, read steps 6 and 7 below.
- Visit the Armorer's shop at the western end of Hierarch's Square in Novigrad to craft the armor pieces.
- Visit the Blacksmith at the north side of the open market in Novigrad to craft the swords.
