Added in New World’s Season 1 Patch, Gear Set Storage is a highly customizable feature that enables quick gear swaps!
What is Gear Set Storage
Gear Set Storage is a major Quality-of-Life feature for New World. This feature allows you to assign gear or gear sets to special inventory slots for quicker swaps.
The Gear placed in this special area of your Inventory will not take up additional weight, letting you freely carry multiple sets. This also removes from your inventory as well, keeping items in gear sets extra safe from accidental salvaging
This also includes items like consumables, Heartrunes, and even ammo, allowing for easier swaps between Skilling, PvE, or PvP gear and consumables.
How to use the Gear Set Storage
While in your Inventory, when assigning gear, you can add it to Gear Set Storage in one of three ways: from your inventory, from an existing Gear Set, or by Importing a Gear Set. I’ll explain each one of these methods below.
How to Assign Gear From Inventory
In your Inventory, you have two options to assign gear to a Gear Set Slot. You can simply click and drag it from your inventory or current equipment. This moves only one piece of gear to Gear Set it is dragged to.
You can also use the context menu, which lets you move a single gear piece to one or all sets at the same time. This is great for swapping pieces in or out of gear sets but is a little slow compared to importing for making brand-new sets.
How to Assign or Remove From Gear Sets
Much like from your inventory, pieces can be moved via click and drag or by context menu. The big difference here is that once a gear piece is in a gear set, you’ll only have the option to move or copy it between sets or remove it from a set.
Similarly to doing so from the inventory, you’ll have the option to add it to another individual gear set, all gear sets, or remove it from the current set with the context menu.
Each Gear Set also has a button that empties the Gear Set for all equipment and consumables.
How to Import Gear Set
This is a great way to set up your initial gear sets, as importing a gear set will take all of your equipped gear and place it into the desired Gear Set Slot. This can only add gear to Gear Sets, and cannot remove it.
This is done by clicking the Import Icon in the upper right of the Gear Set Storage. It will ask you to confirm this action, preventing any accidental overwrites.
How to get more Gear Set Slots
Outside of Season Pass Rewards, the only way to obtain additional Gear Set Slots is to purchase them from the shop.
You can purchase them from the store for 5,000 Marks of Fortune. Additionally, they may occasionally appear as a reward in the Season Pass in future Seasons.
Why use Gear Set Storage
On its surface, this seems like a basic quality-of-life feature, but it drastically increases the flexibility of combat options for both PvE and PvP. Below are some of the better use cases for the systems and ways you can implement it into your own play.
The first is using it to swap builds quicker in Expeditions. This can allow you to more fluidly swap in and out of weapon sets, allowing you to change your approach for each boss of an Expedition. This makes it much easier to have two useful weapons, regardless of the boss or mutation mechanics, without having to have to search your inventory.
Next is a quicker swap in PvP, which can change the outcome of some PvP content. While some swaps will be much more limited, due to attributes, you may be able to adjust your attributes to facilitate swap without the need to respec. While this is limited to similar specs, like swapping between Fire Staff and Ice Gauntlet combo and Void Gauntlet and Ice Gauntlet Combo.
Finally, there are also Trade Skill swaps. For those of you heavily into gathering and crafting, this can also make your life easier. Being able to quickly swap between gathering gear sets to collect multiple resource nodes without the worry of someone taking your node while you swap manually.
The Geat Set Storage feature launched with New World Update 1.9 in April 2023. This is also the patch that marked the beginning of the Season Pass System and the release of Season 1.
