Star Wars Celebration has begun and it’s already giving us so many things to rejoice about. The Ahsoka series teaser trailer is out and we’re finally watching some beloved characters make their debut in live-action!
With the release month being August, the sequel to Star Wars Rebels is just four months away. Fan favorites like Grand Admiral Thrawn, Sabine, Hera, and Chopper will return for the series.
We also got big surprises like Mon Mothma and two dark siders that promise to make Ahsoka a dramatic and incredible series!
Re-Assembling The Ghost Crew
It is time for Ahsoka to continue her search for an old friend. Star Wars Rebels’ ending was incredible but it also left us with one of the biggest cliffhangers in Star Wars history. After five years, it is finally time for the Ghost Crew to get back together.
With the Empire seemingly defeated, the New Republic’s efforts have been centered around rebuilding a devastated galaxy. If we’ve learned something is that if you turn a blind eye to the darkness it will spread with greater speed than before.
The music, Ahsoka’s words, everything points out that this series is going to be something very dark and intense. To face such darkness there’s only a team that can help Ahsoka.
Chapter 21 of The Mandalorian re-introduced Zeb in a live-action series and this trailer shows Hera, Sabine, and Chopper so it looks like the Ghost Crew are getting together in a series that (hopefully) will finally answer where is Ezra Bridger.
Grand Admiral Thrawn Is Back, And He Is Not Alone
I consider Grand Admiral Thrawn to be the most dangerous Imperial Officer to ever live. Unlike Palpatine and Vader he is not force-sensitive so all he relies on is his instinct and intelligence. To be completely honest I’m terrified to think that he is coming back stronger than ever.
A smart tactician understands that there is a lot to learn about defeats, and I consider Thrawn to be the smartest of them all. His return is going to take many by surprise and I do not think that anyone is ready to face the infamous Chiss admiral.
To make things worse he’s not the only villain that Ahsoka will have to worry about. Two mysterious dark side users will also fight Ahsoka in this upcoming series. Something that’s very interesting to me is the fact that none of them are using crimson red lightsabers, it is more of an orange-ish color.
Their robes also make me think that they are Dark Jedi rather than Sith. Baylan’s armor is very reminiscent of what some Jedi used during the Clone Wars. Another thing to consider is that as powerful and brilliant as Thrawn is, it is pretty hard to think that he would rule over Dark Jedi.
He is obviously a master of manipulation so if there’s one individual that could pull it off it would be Thrawn but I’m still skeptical about it. Most Dark Side users will search for power above else but there are few occasions when their motives are more personal.
Thrawn, Baylan, and the other girl that we see might be working together but it’s hard to believe that one is above the other in terms of hierarchy.
There’s also an Inquisitor fighting Ahsoka in a different scene, the lightsaber he/she is using has a standard crimson-red blade with the distinctive hilt that Inquisitors use.
I’m more inclined to believe that this Inquisitor does serve Thrawn rather than the other two individuals. Inquisitors lack the power and vision to be on the top of the power structure so I can see them working for someone as experienced as Grand Admiral Thrawn.
There’s a small easter egg that I really loved. Ahsoka says “I’ve started hearing whispers about Thrawn’s return as heir to the Empire”. “Heir to the Empire” is a Thrawn novel written in 1991 by Timothy Zahn. It is not part of the Disney canon but it’s so cool that they mention it!
Chancellor Mothma?
Genevieve O’Reilly returns to play Mon Mothma. It has never occurred to me that after the defeat of Emperor Palpatine the New Republic would need someone to lead, this scene really made me think about who would take his place in the New Republic.
Mon Mothma was one of the top leaders of the Rebel Alliance and during her time as Imperial Senator, she always tried to be the voice of those crushed by the Imperial iron fist.
It makes perfect sense to pick her as the new leader; it would certainly be a challenge and considering the First Order was able to thrive we can assume that whoever was in charge failed miserably.
I could be wrong, this might be a holo-transmission of Mothma and other nobles from Chandrilla but hey, it’s always fun trying to decipher what’s going to happen.
The World Between Worlds
The World Between Worlds is a dimension that exists within the Force. It is a place that can connect multiple points in both time and space together. I believe that Ahsoka has been using it to try to find her long-lost friend Ezra Bridger. Looking for someone through space and time is an absurdly hard thing to do, even for a Jedi.
Many years have passed and it’s unknown if he’s even alive. Ezra and Thrawn were taken into unknown space by the Purrgils during the Battle of Lothal, this granted the rebels the victory over the Empire and Lothal was finally free of Imperial occupation.
Thrawn managed to survive and return stronger and ever but what about the young Jedi Padawan? He’s smart and more than capable to take care of himself but being stranded with a deadly enemy isn’t something that he has trained for. I think that Ezra will also return but I’m worried about the state in which he’ll return.
This scene shows that also Baylan has accessed the World Between Worlds, he appears for just a few seconds in this trailer but there are already so many questions about him and his intentions.
If he was able to enter this realm then I assume that he’s also looking for something or someone; could it be Ezra, Ahsoka, Thrawn, or someone else?
