The last details before Star Wars Jedi Survivor releases on April 28 have been revealed at Star Wars Celebration 2023!
Star Wars Jedi Survivor is less than a month away from being released. Since the end of last year, EA has been revealing teasers and trailers about the game and at Star Wars Celebration they decided to reveal a brand-new gameplay trailer.
Luckily for us, Star Wars Celebration doesn’t fall short when it comes to announcements so to complement the trailer, an interview with Cameron Monaghan (Cal Kestis) and game director Stig Asmussen also took place.
Asmussen talks about the importance of sticking to the things that made fans love Fallen Order in the first place and refining them. I think that not wanting to fix what isn’t broken is the right approach for a game like Jedi Survivor.
Understanding what appeals to the fans is something that (contrary to the popular belief) is not easy to do, especially if it is Star Wars related.
The people at Respawn Entertainment decided not to try something completely new and focus on improving what they already had.
This also gave them the opportunity to direct resources toward things like customization. Jedi Fallen Order‘s options to customize Cal’s appearance, BD-1, and the Mantis were pretty lackluster so it’s refreshing to hear that there will be dozens of combinations. And yes, Jedi Survivor will have ponchos.
Since we already know the characters, Jedi Survivor will delve deeper into the minds and hearts of Cal, Cere, Greez, and Merrin. Stig Asmussen emphasizes that Survivor will be darker and more emotional than Fallen Order.
One of the biggest improvements in Jedi Survivor is combat, from two fighting stances to a total of five. This really gives you the opportunity of choosing how to approach the dangerous scenarios of the game according to your own playstyle.
Additionally, the “Characters in Gameplay” system allows companions like Bode and Merrin to interact with Cal and the enemies in the middle of a fight.
There are special moves that let the player get out of tricky situations but these moves have cooldowns so you must be mindful of how and where you use them.
Since the Gen’Dai named Rayvis appeared in the first trailer I knew that he would be one of the toughest enemies in the game.
The trailer shows the different stages of the battle with Rayvis and if you pay close attention you can see how his limbs start to fall apart. Not that it matters because Gen’Dai are virtually immortal so it’s certainly going to be quite a challenge!
The number of enemies has increased; Battle Droids, Commando Droids, Scout Troopers, Purge Troopers, AT-STs, Droidekas, a freakin Rancor and more!
Exploring Kashyyyk and Dathomir was one of my favorite things to do in Jedi Fallen Order. We still don’t know the entirety of new places that will be on Jedi Survivor but what has been confirmed is that Coruscant will be one of the planets we can visit!
Not only we are getting new planets but the explorable areas are going to be much larger and with many different ways to reach different areas. The only thing that is going to limit you are your own ability to navigate through these massive areas.
The Mantis Crew are incredible as characters, all of them are very different but this is what makes them work so well together.
One of the things that I didn’t like about Fallen Order is that other than the main villains there were very few NPCs that provided anything significant to the story.
This is changing in Jedi Survivor. According to both Cameron and Stig, there’s a huge number of characters that will help or interact with Cal in a much more meaningful way.
I think this is fantastic, even if the interactions are brief I’ve always enjoyed talking to every character in a game. It often expands the context to what is happening in a specific place while also creating a more immersive experience.
