Appearance customization Options in Jedi Survivor
Jedi Survivor offers you the ability to customize Cal Kestis’s and BD-1’s appearance throughout their adventures together. This feature was also featured in the prequel game, Fallen Order.
Unlike Fallen Order, Cal is now able to sport facial hair! Along with that, there are many more options to customize Cal as you see fit, unlike Fallen Order, where you could only change his overall outfit and poncho.
When you can change Cal’s appearance
Chances are you’re wondering how soon you can change Cal’s appearance, fortunately for you the wait won’t be long. After going through the intro cinematic and walking around in the Coruscant Underworld, you’ll be able to change Cal’s appearance as soon as the scout trooper fight at the very beginning of the game!
How to change Cal’s appearance
To change Cal’s appearance, simply enter the Menu by pressing “Esc” on the keyboard or by pressing the Start button on your gamepad. Switch the tab to “Customization”, press the “Customize Cal” button, and you’ll be presented with the following menu:
In Jedi Survivor, you’ll be able to change the following options:
- Hair
- Beard
- Jacket
- Shirt
- Pants
With these menu options, you’ll be able to finely tune Cal’s outfit to your liking. There’s also an option to remove facial hair entirely if you prefer his Fallen Order look. However, when you first start out in Jedi Survivor you’ll be limited to changing the colors of your current outfit and toggling Cal’s facial hair.
In order to change Cal’s weapons such as his lightsaber, lightsaber color, and customize BD-1, you’ll need to beat the introduction level on Coruscant. You’ll have access to a workbench on the back of the Mantis where you can modify your weapons.
You’ll be able to find other workbenches as you explore the worlds so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to customize on the go!
Weapon Customizations
At the bench, you’ll be able to customize two of Cal’s weapons. These are his lightsaber and his blaster.
Lightsaber Customizations
Cal retains the double-bladed lightsaber he got in Fallen Order and now has the ability to dual wield lightsabers. With this in mind, you’ll be able to modify both ends of the lightsaber. You have the following components to choose from for both ends of the lightsaber:
- Emitter
- Vents (Unlocked later in the story)
- Switch
- Grip
- Pommel
If you switch to the “Materials” tab, you can change the material type for the lightsaber. This is divided into Primary, Secondary, Accent, and Grip.
These materials can include metal, leather, wood, rubber, plastoid, and more. As you choose the material, you can also adjust the level of polish it has as well.
Another option you can utilize is the “Condition” option. This can change the weapon’s physical appearance by making it look new or old. There are five options to choose from with the Condition option, these include…
- Pristine
- Well-Kept
- Worn
- Aged
- Ancient
Below is an example of a Pristine Lightsaber versus an Ancient lightsaber.
The difference in appearance is stark as you can see the age of the wood with its lack of luster, scratches, and faded paint. The condition of your saber depends on your own personal aesthetic and roleplay choices but it’s nice having these options available.
What would a lightsaber customization be without a lightsaber color customization? You’ll have access to the following colors as soon as you can access a workbench…
- Blue
- Green
- Purple
- Yellow
- Cyan
- Magenta
- Indigo
- Orange
- White
These color options can help you feel more like your favorite Star Wars hero be it Luke Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Mace Windu, or (in my case) a Jedi Temple Guard! Unfortunately you cannot change the color for each individual blade. Choosing a color in this menu affects both blades of your lightsaber.
Blaster Customizations
Cal can eventually equip a Blaster Pistol to use it in tandem with his lightsaber. This means that you’ll be able to customize this blaster as well. The blaster is composed of the following components…
- Barrel
- Body
- Grip
Like the lightsaber, you can change the materials and conditions of the blaster. Unlike the lightsaber however, you cannot change the color of the blaster bolts (which are blue).
BD-1 Customizations
Not only can you customize your weapons at the workbench, but you can customize BD-1 as well! BD-1 has the following components you can augment…
- Protoreceptors
- Head
- Audio Sensors
- Body
- Legs
As with your weapons, you can modify BD-1’s materials and condition. Below is an example of a Pristine BD-1 and an Ancient BD-1.
How to get more customization options
In order to get more options for Cal’s appearance, weapons, and BD-1, you’ll need to explore the various planets you go to in Jedi Survivor. Customizations are commonly found in chests that are usually tucked away from view and may require puzzle solving and platforming to reach.
Then there are vendors throughout Jedi Survivor that can sell you customizations in exchange for unique currency. The currency used at a vendor changes with each vendor. To get their accepted currency, you’ll need to explore planets these vendors are on to find them. This could involve you exploring hidden recesses in the environment, defeating enemies, or solving puzzles to get them.
