This beginner-friendly guide explains how to use Roller Mines in Star Wars Jedi Survivor to deal with the dangerous Tar Pits on Koboh that you encounter early on in the game as well as how to help the Pit Droid with his skiff stuck in the tar!

Roller Mine Droids in Star Wars Jedi Survivor

Roller Mines are one of the many types of droid NPCs in Star Wars Jedi Survivor. If you approach them, they target you and move toward you very fast. After a second or two in close proximity, they will explode.

You can push and pull Roller Mines using Force Abilities. This is a mechanic that allows you to not just deal with tough enemies or groups of enemies, but also to progress through specific story segments and clear paths for Cal to move forward.

When you pull the Roller Mine droid to you, its timer gets activated and the line between you and the droid goes red. This means it is about to explode soon.

One such case is the Koboh Tar you will encounter early on Koboh. Here you will see the Roller Mine droid for the first time and can scan it to reveal its description and tips.

Roller Mines are used in several places throughout your adventures in Star Wars Jedi Survivor. While making your very first steps on Koboh, shortly after you land, you will encounter two large pits full of the so-called Koboh Tar – a black thick sticky liquid that sinks you if you remain in it.

Jedi Survivor Koboh Tar

First Koboh Tar Pit Puzzle: Gorge Crash Site

You will first encounter the Koboh Tar when you accidentally drop into a pit while walking onto a pipe. This isn’t an accident, but a scripted event in the game to introduce you to the Tar.

As soon as you drop down, move forward fast and jump onto the platform. The tar will make you sink if you stay in it longer.

Force Pull one of the Roller Mines toward you. The Force Push it toward the small gap in the dam’s wall in front of you.

This will create a large explosion and widen the opening, allowing the Tar to fill the pit and raise the platform so you can jump from it over to the other side.

Another section in this guide, further down, explains how to help the Pit Droid you encounter here in this area.

Second Koboh Tar Pit Puzzle: Derelict Dam

Still within the Dredger Gorge’s regional boundaries, the second Tar Pit puzzle with Roller Mine Droids you will have to solve is in the Derelict Dam area.

The image below is from the entrance to the Derelict Dam area. The map below is just for reference to let you know where you start from in this area.

When you arrive on the site, you will see a metal ramp lifted up with Tar underneath it. After it, there is a Tar pit with a Crumbling Dam Wall on the other side. Your goal is to collapse that wall.

Standing on that ramp, you will see a crack in the wall of the mountain across from the ramp. That’s where you will come out from in a little bit. That’s where you will pull Roller Mine droids from to pull down the metal ramp and blow up the Crumbling Dam Wall.

Second Koboh Tar Pit Puzzle Derelict Dam 1

Jump onto the metal platform down in the tar pit. Use the Grapple to get to the wall and climb it.

Climb the wall

Find this structure and enter it. You will find Roller Mine droids inside.

On the right side, there is a Databank Collectible. Your path leads to the left. Follow the tunnel. In the end, there will be a shaft. Jump in it and continue following the tunnel.

In this tunnel, you should find and pick up the Jacket from the Tactical Outfit set. We’ve got a guide on how to collect the other parts if you want. It’s the only outfit with a cap that you can get as soon as you arrive on Koboh.

Remember that cracked wall I showed you earlier, the one behind the lifted stuck metal rail? At the end of the tunnel, you will see the cracked wall from the inside.

Interact with the console on the right side. A Roller Mine Droid will spawn in the middle. Use Force Pull and Force Push to blow up the wall.

Now that you are back out in the open, you can blow up the Crumbling Dam Wall to solve the second Tar Pit Puzzle on Koboh. The Roller Mine Droids will continue to spawn one at a time on that spot.

Lure a Roller Mine Droid to the ramp, Force Pull / Force Push it to the tar to free the ramp.

Lure another Roller Mine Droid up through that ramp and Force Pull / Force Push it into the Crumbling Dam Wall.

Blow up the Crumbling Dam Wall

That will level up the Tar in the pit and along with it, the two metal platforms. Now you can jump across and continue your journey.

While still at this location, you might consider using a Roller Mine Droid to hit three opponents at the same time to earn the Catch! achievement. There are enough enemy NPCs around for that. You don’t have to one-shot them, you just need to hit them all with one Roller Mine.

Third Koboh Tar Pit Puzzle: Derelict Dam

Head back to the Roller Mine we just used once more. This time we’ll use it to open a side path nearby.

This time, guide the Roller Mine up this cliff to the right of the mine exit.

Have it follow you until you reach the very edge of this cliff.

Use Force Pull to grab it, and launch it with Force Push toward the Tar covering the nearby wall below.

This opens a new path that has some extra combat and items here. Drop down and head in.

You’ll first encounter some droids, after climbing some vines up an initial ledge.

When you pull yourself up the ledge, however, you’ll be greeted by a Gorocco that crushes the droids on arrival, which you’ll need to dispatch instead.

After dispatching the Gorocco make your way further in. This time you’ll be greeted by a few Shiverpedes that seem to be guarding the nearby rope. These go down with a parry and a quick hit or two.

With them dispatched, begin your ascent up the rope. Don’t forget to grab the Creature Bone Databank Scan on your way up.

At the top of the rope, you’ll find another path that has a handful of droids to dispatch. Thankfully droids will fall to parry just a single blaster shot back at them.

You can also use Force Pull to drop them off the nearby Cliffs.

After this, cross the little bridge and you’ll be able to claim your reward, additional Force Essence.

Additionally, you’ll also unlock an elevator that acts as a shortcut to get back here later.

How to help the Pit Droid and pull out his Skiff from the tar

Near the first Koboh Tar puzzle, you will find a Pit Droid waving its hands at you anb jumping around. It needs help from you to pull his skiff out of the tar. Interact with the droid to learn what it wants.

You are unable to do that the first time you encounter the droid. You need to Force Lift Ability, which you learn later through the main story progress.

After you acquire the Force Lift ability, head back to the Gorge Crash Site Meditation Point and us the zipline shortcut you have already created to get to the location.

Use Force Lift and pull out the skiff from the mud. This will reveal a Force Essense. Interact with it to expand your Force meter. You can interact again with the little droid to calm it down.

On its own, it will give you very little, but if you find all Force Essense locations in the game, you will expand your Force Meter significantly.
