Jedi Survivor Patch 7 Brings Reworked Console Performance Mode, adds DLSS Support for PC

Respawn released Patch 7 for Star Wars Jedi Survivor. This new Patch brings a lot of features that many of us wanted in the game since its launch.

Patch 7 was released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X. Its primary purpose is to improve the performance of Jedi Survivor on all platforms.

Performance Mode for Consoles has been reworked

Console players will be happy to learn that the Performance Mode has been reworked and now should yield much more stable 60 FPS performance.

Everyone at VULKK.com plays the game on PC so we can’t comment on the console’s performance from personal experience.

With that said, many console players have reported that this patch has improved the overall experience. For many of them, the game runs smoothly and issues like ghosting or stuttering have decreased in both intensity and frequency.

This doesn’t mean that everyone’s experience is perfect. The game might still crash or new bugs will be present, if this happens to you make sure to submit a ticket. I know that many times this seems futile but it helps developers identify growing issues and develop a solution for them.

Why DLSS is a big deal

The highlight for PC users is the implementation of DLSS* (Deep Learning Super Sampling). The way Respawn shoved the news about DLSS in the backend of a bullet point related to improved performance, acts as a warning light about the state in which DLSS is implemented into the game currently – bad and buggy.

The reworked Performance Mode for Consoles took up most of the patch notes for this update. And for a good reason – it improves significantly the game for many players. DLSS for PC, on the other hand, is in a “first beta version” status, it seems.

Jedi Survivor has gained a reputation for having performance issues, especially when playing in big open areas like Koboh or Jedha. Dropping from 60+ to 15-20 fps is not a rare thing to happen on Jedi Survivor. With DLSS, this problem would be solved for the majority of the players.

However, one thing is saying that there will be a new feature and one completely different is that it works properly but more of this later.

* DLSS boosts performance for RTX GPUs by using AI to output higher-resolution frames from a lower-resolution input. DLSS samples many of these lower-resolution images and then uses motion data and feedback from prior frames to reconstruct native-quality images. In other words, it significantly improves the framerate.

Patch 7 Performance Observations

Jedi Survivor has been struggling since its launch. Not because of the story or gameplay but due to how poorly optimized it is for PC. Extreme frame drops, ghosting, crashes, corrupted save files, etc.

For this patch, we tested the game on two PCs. One has an Intel Core 9700 with an RTX 4090 (1440p ultrawide resolution) and the second one has a Ryzen 5600 with an RTX 3060 TI (1080p resolution).

Test results with Intel Core 9700 and RTX 4090:

Significant FPS improvement when using Frame Generation but this comes with noticeable (and annoying) ghosting effects when using the Frame Generation feature.

No FPS improvement when using DLSS, all quality modes tested. From what people have posted on forums, this is the case for everyone. It’s a shame because DLSS is fantastic but it seems like we’re going to have to wait for Patch 8.

Test results with Ryzen 5600 and RTX 3060 TI:

No FPS improvement when using DLSS, all quality modes tested. Frame Generation couldn’t be tested since it’s a feature only available for the RTX 4000 series.

The game still crashes multiple times, this time without the massive frame drops before it happens. I haven’t been able to replicate the crashes so I can’t tell if it’s random or not.

For this PC configuration, the experience is practically the same. Making changes to DLSS in the game’s main menu, before you load a save file, seems to partially solve the problem, but DLSS, and especially Frame Generation (as seen on all of the images here) definitely needs more work.

Sometimes, enemies continue to make sounds even after being defeated. Specifically, the AT-STs. On one occasion, the game didn’t allow to use the mouse on the main menu. These aren’t game-breaking bugs but it’s still worth mentioning.

If you are planning to resume now from where you may have left off due to technical or other bugs you had with the game, we have a great guide to help you get the best start by pointing out essential things to do first in Jedi Survivor!
