LEGO Star Wars Ahsoka’s T-6 Shuttle Review

Adrian by Adrian|

Ahsoka’s T-6 Shuttle is LEGO’s revision of a ship that is loved mainly by fans of the Star Wars Clone Wars show. The model was released on September 1, 2022. This review will help you make a decision if it’s worth it.

This set is temporarily out of stock on the Lego site but more will be ready to ship before the end of October. The new Ahsoka series certainly had something to do with this, I must confess that after watching the last episode I couldn’t resist buying this set.

Was this a good purchase? Should you buy it as well? Let’s find out.

The T-6 Shuttle in-universe

The T-6 shuttle’s first appearance was in the Clone Wars animated show. This ship was used primarily as an ambassadorial transport by the Jedi Order and because of this, it didn’t have any weapons.

In the animated series, the T-6 shuttle was used by notorious Jedi like Obi-Wan, Mace Windu, Plo Koon, Anakin Skywalker, and obviously, Ahsoka Tano. During the first episode of the Ahsoka series, Ahsoka arrives at Lothal to pick up Sabine Wren and convince her to search for Ezra and Thrawn.

It is an elegant ship that can get out of sticky situations thanks to its clever design and its hyperdrive. Its design has always reminded me of the Thrantas. Thrantas are big, beautiful flying creatures that used to be found on the surface of Alderaan.

General specs and overview of the T-6 Shuttle

The T-6 Shuttle is set #75362, the first version of this set was released in 2011.

This set is made of just 599 pieces, it features a rotating wing, landing gear, two stud shooters, two storage compartments for extra accessories, and four minifigures.

Once built, the T-6 shuttle is over 3.5 in. (10 cm) high, 10.5 in. (27 cm) long and 9 in. (24 cm) wide. Its release price is set at $79.99 (USD), but the price may vary depending on where you live. Additional import fees or taxes may apply.

Even if this isn’t as expensive as a UCS set, eighty dollars isn’t exactly pocket change. Hopefully, this review will help you decide if it’s worth your money.

Building Ahsoka’s T-6

The box is small so it’s easy to carry it with a single hand if you buy it from a physical store. This set comes in six medium-sized plastic bags, with the respective stickers and instructions. It felt weird having a set that in appearance, doesn’t look that small, and yet, all pieces are inside these bags.

I’ve tried both the physical instructions and the 3D version on almost every LEGO set that I’ve acquired since last year. The 3D instructions are fantastic when trying to see different angles that might not be too clear but I wouldn’t say I like watching step-by-step on the LEGO app. For me, nothing beats using the physical instructions, and it also adds a little nostalgia so that’s nice.

When building sets with 1000+ pieces I always separate the pieces in order to make it easier to find them. With the T-6 shuttle being a little over half of that, there was no need for it. I could simply spread them and it never took me more than a few seconds to find the one I needed.

Since this is a small set, it took less time to build than BD-1 or the AT-TE. I’d say it took five hours, these five hours include breaks to eat, take my dog out for a walk, and spend a few minutes on social media.

The T-6 is made of four main parts, the engines, the cabin, and two lateral wings that become a big single wing that resembles the fin of a Stingray.

The first step is assembling the base that will hold everything together. It might not look like much, but this is very sturdy and surprisingly stable.

There are two movable pieces on top of the bigger side panels, these can be opened to store small pieces like Sabine’s hair/helmet in the space under them. I don’t have a dedicated place to store small pieces that aren’t used so this is perfect.

I always feel like a kid again when building a new LEGO set. Watching the pieces slowly turn into a ship or droid will never cease to amuse me. Once the engine section is ready, the most fun part begins.

My favorite part of this set is the rotating wing. Two individual wings must be built and assembled into the rotating mechanism. It’s super simple but it works flawlessly, once the ship is completed you’re able to spin it 360° without any problems. Though I probably wouldn’t recommend overdoing it, this is still a LEGO ship and it can be fragile if not handled with care.

The cockpit is the last piece of this set. It’s a little disappointing that it’s so simple but I guess that at this price point, LEGO isn’t willing to give us super detailed sets. Even if this set is simple, it feels sturdy enough to sustain a decent amount of playtime.

The building experience was super simple, I wasn’t feeling good when doing it but that didn’t affect the process. This set is great for any kids or beginner builders who want to get into LEGO with something that isn’t too challenging but that’s also rewarding when finishing it.

The Negatives

One of the biggest issues that I have with some LEGO Star Wars sets is how many of them feel undersized. Unfortunately, the T-6 also has this problem. I’m fully aware that for a set of this price they “can’t” make it bigger or with more details, but I’d certainly be happy to pay more for what I’m asking. I believe this was a great opportunity to improve the original design and they failed (partially) to do so.

Speaking of which, this revision of the T-6 doesn’t look nearly as good as the 2011 version in terms of color. The choice of grey over white feels out of place. I assume the logic behind it is that many years have passed since the Clone Wars when we first saw the ship and it’s “unrealistic” for it to retain its original white color.

White is known to “age” after many years pass, it slowly turns into a “cream” color. In fact, this is how the ship looks in the Ahsoka series, but I think this is still very far from what we have. What I consider to be the best LEGO sets are mostly grey (UCS AT-AT, UCS Star Destroyer, UCS Razor Crest) but that doesn’t mean that it’s a color that looks good on absolutely everything.

I don’t know if LEGO makes pieces in a “cream” color, but even if they don’t, I still think that using white instead of grey would have been a much better choice.

One side of the rotating wing looks very good, but it’s a shame that the other side didn’t receive the same treatment. It’s not like it takes an insane amount of pieces to cover it. Being limited to only having one “good-looking” side is not a deal breaker but it shows how sometimes LEGO refuses to give more than the minimum effort.

The Positives

The mini figures are fantastic, they are all very well-detailed and two of them (Sabine and Ahsoka) have printed arms. Marrok’s mold is amazing, and if you collect and play LEGO sets that use “knight-ish” figures it fits that theme perfectly.

There is no face under his helmet which might look like a way to avoid spoiling us but if you’ve seen Episode 4 of Ahsoka you already know the reason behind it.

The landing gear works extremely well, it even allows the ship to stand on uneven surfaces. I really like how discrete it is, it certainly doesn’t appear to be a functioning part when just taking a quick look at it. I just have to move it a few inches depending on whether the ship is in flight mode or on a landing zone.

Even if it’s a reduced size, it still looks good enough to be displayed on any shelf. The rotating wing provides a lot of options, especially if you use a third-party stand. If you want to recreate the scene from Ahsoka where Ahsoka fights Marrok the last thing you’ll need to worry about is the T-6 shuttle being unstable.

Should You Buy This LEGO Set

As with almost every Star Wars collectible, it’s not that easy to simply say “Yes, you should buy it” or “No, this isn’t worth it”. There’s a lot more to it so I’ll just give my opinion on why this might be worth your money (or not).

This may be the first and only T-6 that we get in at least a couple of years. While the T-6 shuttle is a fantastic ship, it’s not as popular as an X-Wing or TIE Fighter. The possibility of having a revision of this set in the near future isn’t likely, and we can probably forget about it receiving a UCS version.

It’s been a while since an Ashoka figure was released and I don’t think that Marrok will be included in any other set so it might be the only chance to get him. LEGO figures that are exclusive to one set can increase their value over time so if you see this as an investment it could be a good buy.

However, if you don’t care about the reasons mentioned above and in addition to that, you’re upset about this set not being properly scaled then this might not be for you.

Final Verdict

This is an easy set to build, I was able to do it even with a severe headache. Its size and simplicity make it perfect for children or adults with very small hands. For eighty dollars you get a pretty decent ship that probably won’t get any revisions any time soon.

If we judge it by scale or accuracy then the T-6 shuttle would score very low. I’m not too mad because with LEGO it’s often hit or miss when it comes to these aspects. If my main purpose is getting something decently scaled that looks as close as possible to the screen version then the Action Fleet or Micro Galaxy Squadron lines would be my first choices.

Overall, I’m happy with the T-6 Shuttle set. It was a brief but fun experience that allowed me to build a Star Wars ship that I’ve wanted for quite some time. Even with the negative things about it, I’d still recommend buying it, especially if you’re going to build it with a friend, significant other, or your children.
