How to Start the Job “Lucretia My Reflection”

One of the early main jobs from Phantom Liberty, “Lucretia My Reflection” offers an interesting interaction with two strange characters called Jacob and Taylor.

The job is part of the main story, you just have to begin playing Phantom Liberty and soon enough, you’ll get to this part. It happens after defeating the Chimera and arriving at the abandoned department on Kress Street with President Rosalind Myers.

Cyberpunk 2077 Lucretia My Reflection Guide: - How to start the job

The mission’s path is fairly linear. In the tunnels, at one point you will get a choice to go left or right. It doesn’t matter much. Whether you get detected by the security cameras and what you do about that, is a key to an event that may or may not happen later.

The left side is clear of cameras. On the right side, you will see a door you can force open if you have high enough attributes. If you don’t, look to the right before the door. There is a maintenance tunnel with some piles and hot air blowing out of them.

Behind you, there is a small semi-closed area where there is a valve. Interacting with it will cut off the hot air from the maintenance tunnel and you can pass through it to the other side of the door.

There are also a few security cameras. You can deactivate or destroy them. In an office room on the right side, there is a laptop. Interact with it to remove the footage from the cameras if you like.

On the way to the apartment, you will get the first out of four new Tarot cards available in Dogtown and Phantom Liberty. It’s on the right wall across from the apartment’s entrance.

Should you shoot the unwanted visitors

Not long after arriving at the abandoned apartment with Rosalind Myers, you hear some steps getting close to the door. It’s time to hide and see if these unwanted visitors are friendly or not. This mission gives two choices, but what’s the best one? And how does each decision alter the story?

Rosalind’s first thought is to eliminate them but on this one, you’re the one with the final word. These are the two possible scenarios, what would happen if you pick each one? and, how it will affect the story?

Before Jacob and Taylor (the unwanted visitors) get too comfortable, you and Rosalind come out of hiding. Making it very clear that this place is already taken. Just a few seconds after watching Rosalind, Jacob understands the situation they’re in. The President of the NUS is here, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

At the same time, you can’t afford to take any chances. But what’s the best thing to do? Killing someone because they chose the wrong time to be in a place isn’t exactly V’s style, but the stakes are too high.

What happens if you attack Jacob and Taylor

The easiest and “even” logical choice would be to shoot them. In fact, the game pushes you to do this on multiple occasions. At almost every part of the conversation you can choose to threaten them, this results in Jacob and Taylor shooting back.

You don’t even have to wait for them to complete a sentence before being able to shoot. On my first playthrough, I opened fire as soon as they figured out Rosalind’s identity.

Like many other characters in Cyberpunk 2077, Jacob and Taylor will start shooting if you come too close. Regardless of how the conversation is going. Remembering this can prove useful in your encounters with other NPCs as you progress through the main quest of Phantom Liberty.

Eliminating Taylor and Jacob doesn’t feel too different from taking down any other NPC. The bodies must be disposed of, no one will ever know this happened and the game won’t bring up anything related to this incident. But, what happens if you decide to avoid violence?

What choices to make to befriend Jacob and Taylor

Pick the second option of this dialogue. It’s important to let them know that no one has to get hurt.

As mentioned above, the game will give you the option to shoot them at different stages of the conversation. Pick “Live to see another day”. Just like you, they’re trying to survive.

Continue picking every friendly dialogue option. They’ll make some meaningless demands and Rosalind promises to deliver. Reminder, do not get close to them until everyone lowers their weapons.

Congratulations, Jacob and Taylor are your new Chooms! Before going to sleep, you can talk to both and find out a little more about them. Taylor used to be a Nomad but those days are far behind him. He refuses to tell the reason or give any more details.

On the other hand, Jacob loves to talk. He was born and raised in the never-resting Night City. His left leg was “taken” by Kurt Hansen’s goons after he declined to pay for the imposed fee to do business.

He also gives useful information about the airdrops, whenever you see red-colored gas, it means that something valuable has been dropped. Finders keepers so make sure to check them out.

After talking to Jacob and Taylor, join Rosalind for a brief chat before going to sleep. Both discuss the possibility of Songbird not showing up, if this is the case then a Plan B must prepared.

You can ask Rosalind’s opinion of your new allies but she just says that they’re not entirely useless and that she intends to deliver on everything she promised. They’re taking a huge risk after all.

After waking up in the morning, Jacob is just sitting nearby playing with his weapon. He tells you about Jacob going out earlier to check out some of those airdrops he mentioned before.

It’s the morning of the next day and Songbird is nowhere to be found. This is when Rosalind reveals a way to contact a sleeper agent, a man she trusts and probably the only one who can help.

It is at this moment that V officially gets the NUSA FIA coin and becomes an agent… of sorts. It’s funny that if you accept to recite the oath, Johnny will ironize you all of the time while you repeat after Myers. Including after that in the elevator on the way to the street level.

With So Mi missing and the possibility of her not showing up, this agent is the best chance to get Rosalind out of Dogtown and find So Mi.

Jacob is just right outside the building’s entrance. Though, he doesn’t give any new information.

Few of the following steps of this mission are exactly the same regardless of what you decide to do when meeting Jacob and Taylor for the first time.

Talking with Jacob in the evening and then in the morning, will give you a sort of an introduction to the Airdrops in Dogtown. Jacob will tell you that they are easy loot and advise you to look for the red smoke.

Meeting Reed for the first time

Find the “Capitán Caliente” restaurant and break in. If you are strong enough, you can just force your way in.

If you prefer a more peaceful approach, you can sneak in through the hole on the side of the building. On the left side of the building, there is a green container. Move it to reveal an alternative entrance.

side entrance to the capitan caliente restaurant

You can also follow the cable that protrudes from the window to the right of the door. Follow that cable to the other end where you can restart the connection. This will deactivate the mines on the front door and open the door for you to enter freely.

Move the big shelf that’s on one of the corners of the hall. You will find the phone that Rosalind mentioned, type code 0931. After a few seconds, a man will answer back and give a direction where you’ll meet him.

The last part of this mission changes depending on whether you spared Jacob and Taylor or not.

After a rocky start at the basketball court, Reed introduces himself and V does the same thing. Once that the objective is established Reed turns on the car and heads back to the apartment complex.

Return to the Apartment to see the consequences

Depending on what you did with Jacob and Taylor, there can be three outcomes to this situation. They do not affect the further development of the story, but will surely leave a moral mark on you as a result of the earlier decision you made.

Jacob and Taylor’s bodies are on the floor in the foyer

If Jacob and Taylor were alive when you last left them, you might be intercepted by three armored vehicles when you return to the building. Kurt Hansen’s forces managed to track and follow you.

Taking them down is no different from defeating any other Barghest forces. Get back to the car and return to Rosalind, time is running out!

A squad of Barghest soldiers is already at the hotel when you get there. Did Jacob and Taylor betray you? There’s only one way to find out. Defeat the few enemies standing guard near the entrance and scan the bodies of Jacob and Taylor to confirm their sad fate.

This moment is very tense, you don’t know what to expect. After rushing through the hall, Reed knocks on the door and Rosalind Myers opens without a single scratch on her hair.

What happened with Jacob and Taylor? As surprising as it is, they fulfilled their part of the deal and stood together to defend the President of the NUSA from Kurt Hansen’s forces. Unfortunately, both of them are gone.

How to make sure Jacob and Taylor are still alive in the apartment

According to my latest playthrough and with help from Droidsbane’s comment under this guide, we narrowed the event that determines whether Jacob and Taylor will be alive and well back in the apartment when you return with Reed.

Down in the tunnels, where you have to choose left or right, there are security cameras on the right side and a laptop that you can use to deactivate and delete the footage from those cameras.

This is the point where the game seems to determine whether there will be an ambush back at Kress Street building where your hideout is. If you kept clear from the cameras in the tunnels and/or at least deleted the footage, you will not encounter Barghest forces when you return with Reed to meet Myers in the apartment.

When you get to the apartment, Jacob will meet you at the door. Reed will disarm him and calm down after he realizes Jacob is friendly.

You can have one more conversation with the two NPCs who will now be sitting next to each other in the middle of the apartment.

Shortly after you leave the apartment again, Reed will update you on his and Myers’ current status. You can ask him about Jacob and Taylor. No matter how you frame the question, the answer he will give you is the same and kind of points to yet another sad ending for those two guys. Sad.

Jacob and Taylor could be still alive in the apartment

In the end, whatever you pick doesn’t change the outcome of the main story but making new friends and losing them shortly after adds a lot of emotion to a mission that is not the most exciting one.

The fate of Jacob and Taylor

I’d like to thank Guyver01 and Droidsbane for their help that prompted us to do more testing as we didn’t initially realize there could be a third path.

Closing Thoughts

While this mission is part of the main quest of Phantom Liberty, whatever you choose to do will not reflect on the world or any follow-up quests. There is no extra reward or payment for sparing Jacob and Taylor but at least you’ll get a new pair of friends! At least for a few hours.

This is one of those moments where no matter what you do, the world will go on in its own established course. Your choices and decisions will matter to you and your own consciousness.
